Second post in Dakka, I guess should be the primary thing that lifted me from lurking. I've been painting things on and off for 8 years. I started with Warhammer fantasy right as Age of Sigmar started. Sure it was just a Blood Island High Elf box, but by George I painted them. Poorly... I've learned much since. My games with that set did not end well. So after the drubbing I bounced off Games Workshop stuff. Just reading about GW stuff but never really playing or getting an army. For friends and family I painted. Until Now.

I have acquired a few totes of misc stuff and 40+ issues of the Warhammer Imperuim, plus any remaining issues will also get sent my way. So instead of letting this gray plastic tide overwhelm me. It shall be aggressive levels of painting time. By the end I'll have my first Wh40k army+ a few extras. Necrons, Marines and I know there is several boxes of SoB in one of those totes. Gods know what else might be hiding in the boxes. I'll actually go through them and catalogue contents. For now onto paint.

Many times I read about people starting they always have that first marine to show off, usually an ultramarine. So first things first, from Imperuim magazine is a 5th Company guy. Not my first Mini, but he'll do as that first loyalist marine.

Spoiler:

This is what I've sorted so far. Still more to go through. It'll be a list of what I have to paint through or rehome..

So I have begun testing what I would like my Necrons paint scheme to be. I didn't like tests were I made all the metal silver, it felt unfinished. So I went with inner skeleton being a brass color. That I'll keep but I'm undecided on if I should go with this Orange/yellow glow or make one with the standard green. Once I've decided that its on to a stack of 20. I also began ruminating on what the marines are gonna be painted. I might be heretical.

That necron looks good! I'm not sure to be sold on the green though, might be a bit too much colour? Maybe on a whole unit is ok.

Also known as KeiserS! muette is my old name.

I also have a 3d models shop, check it out here! https://cults3d.com/en/users/keiserspandp/creations

Second Test Necron. Sloppier/incomplete then first but just testing scheme changes. Went with a teal instead of green. Also found a florescent paint at local game store other day and tried it. In person it makes the glow of various stuff a bit more vibrant. But Image from camera turned out much brighter then it actually looks.

Thing I'm thinking of changing is maybe just keeping their heads silver on the warriors to reduce the amount of color they have. Maybe to help differentiate them from the Immortals. The final color I tested for shoulder plates/head is Sons of Horus. I don't think I'll use it though as it came out poor.

Also anyone know if old Necron warriors mix well with the new guys? I've been going through totes and I found a box of them alongside a half box of Forgebane.

I think the blue and goldenrod yellow mix look really pretty.

I'm really liking this scheme.

Old necrons mix well with the new guys, especially if you use the Gauss Reapers on the new guys, and cut out the barrels of the new Gauss Flayers to replace the green rods in the old warriors.

I like the blue scheme too. Works really well with the orange bits

Got them cut out of the sprue an on ta sticky tack. Gonna try painting them in pieces. When I painted my first two, I built them fully and had a few accidents trying to paint past their arms. I guess the package they were in was also wrong. I only had 10 in the bag. Swore I was told 20. But there are still many zip lock bagies of minis from the magazines so maybe they are in there. Are the warriors supposed to have cracks down sides of chest or do they need to be filled?

Progress moves onwards for my Warriors. I've gotten most of the basic colours down. Bit of shading to do and then its on to getting the glowing stuff going.
I've also updated my first post with stuff I've sorted from the boxes. Dunno if I'll paint everything I've seen but a wide variety if I get bored.

Now I have finally finished them. Not the fastest painter in world and first time doing an entire group in one go. I don't think I like doing it this way. I will limit myself to 3-5 guys at a time for the future. Was very demotivating at first to see such little progress across the whole group overtime, even if in actuality progress was going well.

In another note I got a real late gift from fathers day. Guess I can add Custodes to my list of stuff to paint. Not a faction I would have picked, but it was a good intentioned gift.

Moved combat patrol gift to the top my painting queue. Don't want to be rude and keep it in the box on a shelf until sometime next year lol. So off I go painting shadow keepers. The amount of detail on these guys for me coming from painting Necrons is a system shock.

I like the blue/bronze on the necron warriors, great contrast, and with the base too.

He's very fancy, that custodian. I never got to be that fancy when I worked as a custodian.

Finished first squad of Custodes. Built the sisters and have begun work on them. Also I received some 3d printed alternative Armigers. Got tutored through process of magnetizing one of them so I can switch their arms and head. Apparently its a thing I will have wanted done later, as it was what suggested I do.

I still don't know what to do on the bases that would look good with these guys.
