Off the shoulder of Orion

Welcome to game 38 of our campaign. Imperial forces have mounted a search and destroy mission against the Xenos presence in theatre.
The Eldar reinforcement point has been identified, and a strong force of Salamanders, Sons of Gord and Deathwatch have been dispatched to end the Xenos threat.

The Eldar have their own agenda on Triskelion, and are unlikely to allow the meddling Mon-Kiegh to interrupt their plans.
The stage is set for a bitter battle between forces largely ignorant of each other’s true motivations.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Captain Gordus Maximus affixed the last Oath of Moment to his armour and stepped onto the teleporter dais alongside his terminator guard.
Arcane machinery began to hum and spin all around as the ancient teleportarium awoke and its machine spirits began their arcane tasks.
Gordus could feel the familiar prickling at the back of his neck as the barrier between realspace and the warp began to thin. Tendrils of frost crawled across his armour.

By now, the lead elements of the armoured force planetside should be closing on the coordinates provided to them by the Inquisition.
He suppressed a scowl at the thought of the Ordos involvement. He had good reasons to distrust the secretive organisation and relying on their intel was far from ideal.
Still, if the elusive Eldar were present, then perhaps he would be a little more willing to trust in the future. Perhaps.

“Power at 95% capacity. Translocation in 5..4..3..2..” intoned the machine priest operating the teleport equipment, safely ensconced behind layers of ablative shielding a hexagramatic wards.
Gordus pushed further thoughts of the Inquisition from his mind and prepared to meet the enemy in the fires of battle. With a wind that came from nowhere and everywhere at once, the
telepotarium flashed white and Gordus was flung into the madness of the warp.

The field of battle

Eldar forces take position, having been alerted to the Astartes attack in advance by their Farseers

Eldar armour prowls the woods

With a roar of promethium fueled engines, the combined Astartes force attacks

Protect the Gateway at all costs!

The Eldar reinforcement point on-world must not fall

The Sons of Gord and Deathwatch push up the left flank

The Salamanders move up the centre and right

Eldar tank fire flickers out

A Storm Talon strafes the Dire Avengers, moving down half the squad

The Salamanders dismount and begin their infantry assault

Purge the Xenos!

The battle is joined in earnest

Eldar armour moves up to stem the marine attack

Falcons and Fire Prisms concentrate their fire

The Sicaran is knocked out

But marine heavy units continue to advance

Including a powerful ally in the form of a Freeblade Knight

Marine counter-fire begins to take a toll on the Eldar

Assault cannon, bolters and flame weapons further degrade the Xenos infantry

Eldar Heavy infantry push forwards

But the Astartes quickly flank the threat with a teleport assault

The marine assault is ferocious, putting the main Eldar force under pressure

The Eldar are hard pressed across the field

As the Salamander Captain destroys another Falcon, the Eldar appear on the brink of defeat

Suddenly, a huge pulse of eldritch energy bursts from the webway gate, and as the glare fades, an Eldar Revenant Titan stands before the foe

The Eldar rally around the new arrival

The marines react immediately – tactical squads and Deathwatch kill teams deploy

More Eldar armour is destroyed

Fire Dragons disembark to stem the Mon-Keigh armour

The Imperials press the attack

But the Webway gate pulses again, this time with a brilliant nova of energy, revealing a true god of war to the shocked marine forces

The true purpose of the artifacts unearthed by the mechanicus and subsequently seized by the Eldar in previous battles is now revealed -
The lost Phantom Titan 'Dawnbringer' walks again

Suddenly, the Freeblade feels very small…

“Die, Mon-Keigh!”

The Knight is reduced to a smoking crater

The tide of battle has swung decisively back to the Eldar

But humanity’s finest will not be cowed – the marines respond with a mass teleport attack and terminator assault

By His Will – the combined power of three First Company squads and a Chaplain cannot be denied, and the Revenant is felled

For the Emperor!

The marine force continues to battle with the Eldar line forces

Deathwatch terminators arrive

And quickly join the combined attack on the Phantom Titan

Hammertime!

After 30+ terminators and characters have attacked, the total damage to the Phantom is…...zero.
The mighty construct shrugs off the puny attacks and casually deletes more marine armour.

Captain Gordus assesses the tactical situation and does not like what he sees.
“All forces withdraw – there’s no future in this!”. The terminators initiate an emergency teleport as the marine forces disengage and quit the field.

Victory Eldar!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Captain Gordus Maximus stomped off the teleport dais with post-translation hoar frost still fuming off his armour.
He tossed his storm bolter onto a nearby arming table and came to a halt, his armoured fists pressing on the bench.

“Two titan class engines – there’s something it would have been good to know about. Light infantry and some armour they told us!
I see Ordo intelligence is a good as ever.”

Picking up his storm bolter he turned to a nearby tech priest.
“Get me the Inquisition conclave on the vox – they have some explaining to do.”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, that certainly showed those pesky marines. Two titan class super-heavies is enough to ruin anyone's day.

Great fun though - the Eldar were getting a pasting before the big boys showed up. The marines did well dealing with the Revenant,
but the Phantom was a whole other level. The terminators didn't even scratch the paint!

Newly empowered with their long-lost titan, who knows what schemes the Elder have yet to reveal?

Next game: Rise of a Daemon King - an ancient evil emerges.

Those are very pretty titans, the Eldar aesthetic is very pleasing even if it feels like it shouldn't work with something so big.

A rude awakening for that Knight. Not so big anymore, are you

Yeah beautiful minis all around the Eldar superheavies are on another level.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Well, THAT escalated quickly...

Absolutely beautiful minis and scenery as always, bravo Gordy! Interesting conversions in use by the Salamanders, was that a Repulsor on tracks and some sort of Rhino-based open back APC?

As always, the gold standard of batreps!

That titan was my favorite childhood mini (in epic scale). Sad that I gave it away to my younger brother who chucked it. Great to see it at 30mm scale kicking some! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Chickenbane - the whole campaign has been a narrative one with a ‘DM’ running the show and introducing various events and surprises in the games.

In this one we (the marine players) thought the Revenant was the surprise…..but no….
