Hi

I've been using Army painter quick shade strong tone for the last seven years or so (same can), on my painted War of the ring miniatures to varnish and protect them when I throw them back in the box.

I used the can earlier this year and it worked as always. However, I varnished seven miniatures 3 weeks ago and they are still sticky to the touch. I used a brush to put it on and stirred the shade pretty well before use.

At first I thought it was just a matter of waiting a bit longer but as it usually hardens within 48 hours I'm starting to loose hope.

Should I wait some more? Spray on a Matt varnish and hope it seals in the stickiness? Something else?

Advice are most appreciated.

Best regards Rrd Makak

Never had something similar to what you are experiencing.
Possible medium reaction with that particular plastic...?
Generally, It is good to do a test, for example:
If I was in your position Id look for answers online, but if unsuccessful in finding exact answer, Id take one (sacrificial) guy and put a clear matt varnish over the sticky surface to see if it will hold up.
If the test holds up, then I would apply 1 or 2 more coats on top for good luck.

After priming my Reaper bones minis, they get sticky, sometimes that Reaper white plastic reacts in sticky way to the contrast paints too. So, I just paint over the sticky surface normally with acrylic paints, and then seal it with a matt clear varnish. That works for me on sticky Reaper Bones.

Hope you can find the exact answer that you need.

The polyurethane component should have cured by now, unless you're experiencing extreme levels of humidity.
