LI models are a bit tricky to store compared to other games for which solutions are more plentiful.
So far I've found:
- Battlefoam has a Legions Imperialis range with custom foam cuts to size
- Feldherr has no custom designs for LI so far (although there are some for AI & AT), but many of their foam trays can be used for LI (see below)
- I've found some interesting 3D printing designs by this YT user (free STL are included in the YT video description
On the Feldherr front (I've used Feldherr products for years for multiple games):
- This half-size tray fits all infantry that I've tried so far + Contemptor Dreadnoughts and Sentinels
- This full-size tray fits 50 Rhinos, but nothing else so far (maybe not-Vanquisher Leman Russ ?)
I'll try to update the post with more information.

Or, you know, just buy a nut and bolt storage box, toss out the deviders, attatch a magnet sheet to the bottom of the box and glue magnets to the underside of the LI bases/ tanks.

That's what I'm doing for other models (40K/AoS...), but I was afraid of the extra wear on infantry if I grab the stands by the models themselves (there is only a very tiny glued surface between the models and the base). And going under the base is not practical if you don't have at least a little bit of nails...

This is true, so there is a easy solution for that, all you need is basicly two beams say 1cm tall as an example and glue thouse to the bottom of the box. Then you find a wood or plastic plate on top of thouse beams that cover the whole box, this is your new bottom box level.
You glue magnets to the underside of the plate and on top of your beams and cut a hole in the middle of the plate so you can lift the plate up from the box with your finger (or attatch a bolt and lift the bolt). Then just slide the bases of the magnet sheet that you have placed on the new box bottom.
If you have a realy deep plastic or wood box, you can just repeate this higer up in the box to make additional floors, just leave enugh room so you can lift out the bottom level.
(yea i know a bit hard to describe my idea, but i have not made one yet myself as i lack the materials)

This. Went for this and works treat. Maybe to lid as well since the height is hardly issue.
Would be nice to find some less tall ones to optimize. I dont need half the height the boxes I use have...
The grabbing issue hasn't been issue so far. I do use smaller than usual magnets though(think 2mm wide, 1mm deep or so).

Surprisingly, those boxes are more expensive than a filament spool xD

Steel or high quality plastic quality are, yes. i am talking budget boxes.
For me i bought a double pack of them for 15 euro (yes that is cheap in norway). In comparisment a 1kg spool of 1.75mm 3d print spool costs 25-50 euro over here.
But hell, you could do this idea with tupperware if that is cheaper..
Point is that LI models are so small and weighs just a few grams, that magnetic storage is a fully viable option. The only things that needs foam storage are the bigg stuff, aka airplanes big knights and titans.

Huh? Where you get filament spool for 6 euro's? Especially without kg price going up the roof.
Albeit you still need magnetic sheet to pay...but then again it's not like filament grabs with magnets either so same fee there as well

I get them for 12 euros, but I can tell you that I'm able to make quite a bit more than a single transporter with it.

These racks are for storing whatever trays I need. For infantry, it'd be these:
slider tray for 25mm GW bases, each stores about 35 bases, no need for magnets nor anything else, and prints on demand in a couple hours.
Do you print the storage box also? Tempted.... though it does seem like something that'd take quite a long time to print. And my FDM printer is only 220mm wide, so somewhat limiting in terms of the size they can be.

I might end up printing one eventually, yeah, but for the moment I don't really need to. I'm just looking for a storage solution for my home.

Don't have 400mm big printer build bed so can't print equilavent on my printer so anything I would print would be inferior to 6e box I can readily buy.

Seems like a good solution for you
The video on the OP with the little shelves for the Really Useful Boxes look like a pretty good idea too, to really get the most out of the boxes.

If we're just talking about storage for the home, I've found stackable fridge drawers to be really good.
They're made of clear plastic (acrylic I think? not sure) rather than the semi opaque plastic that typical storage boxes are made from.
Because they're clear, I buy a pile of them and stack them up as more of a display where I can see the models rather than hiding them away in my cupboard only to emerge once in a blue moon when I find someone to play a game with.
The ones I can buy from the local evil megastore is a good size for Epic (not insanely tall, but tall enough to fit my aircraft on their bases as long as I don't combine a fat aircraft with a long stem).
I use the same box for my Space Hulk Terminators and they fit fine, but I imagine if one of them had a sword in the air it might not fit.

You was right on with the 2x1mm. Just enugh pull to stay on vertical, but not so mutch you will yank the infantry of the base if you have glued them directly to the base.

If you have a magnetic sheet in your box, why do you put also magnets on your models isnt a tiny piece of metal enough. I have from my old lawmower a pot of small rond pieces of metal that they used as counterweights those are size 5mm and 3mm about 1.5mm. thick.
full compagny of bloodangels, 5000 pnt of epic bloodangels
5000 pnt imperial guard
5000 pnt orks
2500 pnt grey knights
5000 pnt gsc
5000 pnts Chaos legionars
4000 pnt tyranids
4000 pnt Tau
Hmm. Have to try. The metal pieces my dok models have don't grab...but then again it's deeper in base so might just be too weak grab when not touching sheet.
I'l' buy more when i go to store. Those would be hell of easier than 2x1 magnets to buy
Or my sheet holds magnets but isn't metallic itself. The one from greenstuff world.

one that could be worth a note, use the greenstuff world mag bases, and then some really cheap and nasty rubber steel sheet, the adhesion is terrible but probably perfect for this scale
Or my sheet holds magnets but isn't metallic itself. The one from greenstuff world.
They sell two sheets, rubber metal and magnetic, the rubber metal sheet is not magentic. I suggest you look at their product site, they explain it in a little bit more detail.
I use the rubber sheet from GSW in combo with neo mags and it works great, (and yes my hobby shop allso sells their 2x1 mags in 100 pack so im a bit lucky)
Then one may ask; why spend so mutch money on this homebrew storage? well for us scandenavians, importing battlefoam or any other high end foam storage means that after shipping, VAT and local import taxes are added, we have basicly payed 2-3 times more then what the base product costs, and that is simply a waste of money.

For me rather: foam bulkier, less quick to use, still has contact with model and non-air.
Magnet gives me(for cheaper price...) quicker to use, more models packed where models in storage aren't touching anything but air.
Best thing with magnetic solutions is how you can use the same bags so easily for different games and scales. I have a battle foam bag with foam I am going to sell soon as soon as I have emptied the content because after I sold off my warmachine models nothing really fits into it. All my Blood Bowl, WFB, 40k and mesbg models have magnets under them as well as different movement trays (I have my Blood Angels models on movement trays as well just for easy transport) so I can quickly move any army from my shelves at home to the A-Case bag of size I want to use and then to a table at the club in record time.
With foam bags you almost have to use the bags themselves as storage since it just takes too much time to pack and unpack each time and you need different foam layouts for different armies so you can't really use the same bag for different games/armies anyway which forces you to buy enough bags and/or trays to cover everything.
My small A-Case Victory case let me take 153 infantry models (25mm round) with me + brushes and enough paint to paint them all when on vacation. It isn't even large enough to count as my carry on luggage but the free backpack everyone lets you take with you on a plane. You can pack really tight with magnets in a way that is just impossible with foam.
For playing games like WFB that have models on movement trays magnets is even better. You just put magnets under the movement trays as well so you can move entire units at once. I can usually deploy my entire army before someone with a foam bag and individual slots have picked up the models for a single unit and they still have to rank them up while I am done.
