I've found myself very inspired to start new projects recently, and wanted to share what I am doing here.

Firstly, a mutant rebellion. From the Rogue Trader first edition rulebook: ''Generally speaking, the form a huge downtrodden portion of the population of the Imperium. Their dissatisfaction occasionally erupts as rebellion. Such revolts occasionally allow mutants to take control of planets or even groups of planets for a short period''.

I'm using mostly Imitation of Life minis for this army. He's a great sculptor and his full range is on etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ImitationofLifeMinis?ref=shop_sugg_market

These guys will be low-tech and irregular, so I want to paint them all a different colour scheme. I'm picking 3 at a time to do using limited colours on different areas, then the next 3 will be a different pallette, and so on.

Illustration from Rogue Trader:

Next up i'll show off some stripped-down-woodland-camo unnumbered-son-chapterless phobos marines who are fighting a guerilla war on a knight world gone bad. Just waiting for some basing material. After that, hopefully chaos knights, then some orks. That's the plan anyway!

Great new project- good luck moving it forward!

Phobos marines on a knight world? Do they actually have access to Anti-tank?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Cheers Meer_Cat; it may be a long haul, think it's gonna be a horde army. Here's some more mutants I did earlier, as a Stargrave crew. They can swell the ranks.

@Llamahead: they will have to rely on grenades and melta bombs, but will deffo be the underdogs, which is cool

MOar mutanTs!! these are fun to paint, and 3 at a time means I can keep a steady pace; i'll post a group shot when I hit 30.

They will all be individual models, and its a horde, so looking for some more high points value troops, was thinking of pit beasts from Urban War to count as purestrain genestealers or abominants (not my image):

I've broken ground on another new army - a squad of Incursors for my Phobos Marines force. These guys are chapterless, and fighting a guerilla war. I wanted a stripped down, slightly battle damaged look. I reduced the size of the backpacks and took off the gun scopes.

Very cool bunch of mutants there mate! Love the different colours on them, and the basing brings them all together.

Great choice of sculpts - very characterful!

Thanks for sharing, keep it up!

Thanks tzurk, the sculpts from IOL minis, a little one man outfit in spain, are what inspired the army really, and he does a great mix and match mutant kit. I'd like to order some more but he's on holiday

I'll get some better pics when I can. In fact I need a better photo set-up in general, got to look into that.... at some point....

Mix-and-match mutants, you say? I'm not supposed to be buying models, but these sound like something I need to look into.

Here's the first model in my Demons and Engines army (count-as chaos knights). He's a Slaaneshi Rampager. I'm planning to do one big lad for each chaos god, and have some demons for each of them too. The model is from Archvillain Games.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, really appreciate it. I am also open to feedback and suggestions. Although I'm happy with how I paint, it doesn't hurt to get some critique sometimes, especially when it's constructive. Also as these armies develop, any ideas for what units to do and which models to use would be great. I would even welcome ideas for future projects. I'm enjoying the hobby more than ever right now - think it's to do with being sober

Like you, I appreciate feedback, but I'm reluctant to offer criticism of other hobbyists' work, as I don't see myself as skilled enough to do so. That said, I find it easier to answer direct questions than offer unsolicited advice.

Also, sobriety is good. I quit drinking a couple of years ago, and am quite glad that I did.

I agree with Josh- and I do the same thing: I ask for constructive feedback, but am really probably asking if all y'all like what I'm doing. I have found in my limited exposure here on Dakkadakka that if I ask something more specific, I tend to get more responses and actionable feedback. Things like color compatibility, scale, amount of gubbins or lack thereof, these tend to get detailed responses.

I've not had an adult beverage in 19 years, 312 days and have enjoyed a much fuller life as a result. Rock on!

(Today, the only day I can do anything about, I got up at 0515, so have a little more than 12 hours )

Thanks chaps, that's great advice, to ask specific questions, like 'have I gone overboard with the weathering here?' and things like that.

Regarding sobriety, I had a recent health scare that made me check myself and what I was doing. This hobby has already helped save me from being an alcoholic or worse. I won't necessarily have to be teetotal in the future but i'll never go back to.... insobriety. Glad to hear you are both doing so well

Very nice. I like your use of Tzeentchian yellow-and-blue. The model is easily identifiable, even without the Egyptian-themed bitz and bobs.

Whoa, blast from the past! I fell in love with Orks during 4th ed, but I admit that the goofy earlier versions spark joy, as well.
