Decided to get back into the hobby recently after many years away from it, thought best option was to come back in with the ultramarine starter kit with the free paints and brush - have lots of old painting equip that’s way past its best so will be starting a fresh from here on out!

Would love to know your thoughts on my first attempt at a grim dark ultramine going for the chipped old armour look, any advice / tips from here on out very welcome and needed! It’s not quite finished still some work to do on the flamer and other fine details…

Cheers

Welcome to Dakka and the Ultramarines.

He does look worn and grimy, nice on that. But also textured? Like a rough pebbled surface on the armor. At first I thought it was a bad prime, as that’s how I’ve seen it before. But the flamer was smooth. Unusual effect.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Yeah the texturised surface comes from the stippling effect from the use of a sponge on the armour I believe! May have gone slightly overboard on this effect with this one! But hey that’s what I’m here for again, learning!

Looks good, welcome back, the hobby is in a weird place compared to the good ole days. But Enjoy!
