Deadly Demise is no longer a model ability, instead being a weapon ability.

It has the following the rule associated with it:

Deadly Demise X+ wrote:This weapon may not be fired normally. Instead, when the model equipped is destroyed, but before the model is removed and before any models within disembark, roll a d6. If the result of the d6 is X or higher, it attacks with this weapon against every unit, friend or foe, within range.
If X is not listed, treat it as 6+.
Additionally, if the model is a Transport, before any models inside disembark, they suffer an attack from this weapon with +1 to the wound roll.

Deadly Demise weapons are under Ranged Weapons, allowing cover and such to apply. They will also almost always have Torrent.

A Rhino might have:
Range....6"
A............1d6
BS.........N/A
S............5
AP..........-1
D...........1
Deadly Demise 6+, Torrent

A Knight Atrapos, with its current d6+2 Deadly Demise, might have:
Range....9"
A............1d6+2
BS.........N/A
S............10
AP..........-3
D...........2
Deadly Demise 4+, Torrent

A Helbrute might have:
Range....3"
A............1d3
BS.........N/A
S............4
AP..........-1
D...........1
Deadly Demise 6+, Torrent

On one hand, I like the idea of returning explosions to being an attack with characteristics that factor in Toughness and Saves. On the other hand, it switches from a unified, easy-to-remmeber mechanic to a bunch of bespoke statlines that you'd have to remember or pull up to reference.

How would you feel about a "single" explosion statline that has a single stat change based on the Deadly Demise special rule? So something like:

Range 6", Ax*, S4, AP0, D1, Blast, Torrent

Where x is a value passed in by the deadly demise rule. A hellbrute might be Deadly Demise (3) while a knight is Deadly Demise (15) or whatever.

That keeps it pretty easy to remember but rewards tougher models with thicker armor.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

I like my rule… but I agree yours has the benefit of simplicity.
I’d make it S6 AP-1 D1, though. A tank blowing up should hit harder than a Bolter. S6 means you need to be Land Raider or GUO tough to be wounded on 6s, and allows for wounding weeny Nurglings and Guardsmen on 2+.

Sure. Flavor to taste. Either way, it's acknowledging the differences in defensive stats instead of just mortally wounding everything, and it's sticking to (basically) a single statline so that it's easy to remember.
