I love the idea of Obliterators. However my Chaos army has been themed around shunning mutations. Including obliterators at this point would be a bit....weird. I'm looking for suggestions on how to tone-down the mutations a bit, even if it means using a different model/models in a kitbash fashion. I was thinking of perhaps using Space Marine Centurions as a starting point. Or perhaps 3D printing Dreadnought legs at 60% scale and topping it with a 150% terminator torso.

Any ideas?

You could do some Dark Mechanicum styling, with lots of wires, cabling, and even (gasp!) Xenos weapons.

No mutations, just science run amok.

Look at the AdMech (HH and 40k) ranges.

Cents are a good idea. I think they have a similar profile (but it’s been a while since I saw an oblit in the wild, so take with salt)

From a WYSWYG POV they are big chonky slow guys with more guns tacked on then sense. So about the same as obliteraters.

If I was in your shoes, it’s what I’d start with.

Centurions would definitely be an interesting starting point.

I'm planning on using some Ambots with a grab bag of guns and blades.

I think I'd go with Adeptus Mechanicus Kataphron servitors, only with the servitor replaced with Terminator parts. They're already a heavy gun platform, largely technological and even though they come with 60mm bases, they should fit on 50mm bases the current Obliterators are supplied with well enough with nothing but negligible overhang.

Okay, I think I have this sorted out. I found a GREAT and FREE stl file on Cults for a Saturnine terminator. I think I'll use the legs, and torso of that, upscaled to be about 50mm tall. Then add upscaled terminator heavy weapon arms, and upscaled Contemptor havok launcher on the top. Top it off with some rescaled Centurion style shoulder pads.

I was gonna suggest tracking down the originals

But using a Not-Saturnine Termie as a base to work from sounds like it should work out great. I look forward to seeing how they turn out

A friend of mine had the same problem, he hated the flesh metal look, so he used blender and modified SM centurions to be chaos oblits. since we play oldhammer he had to put all the weapons onto the 3d print design for the 3.5 chaos codex.
