I've seen some really fun ideas thrown around lately, and I've decided to toss an open mic here and invite everyone to post any bit of poetry (wether its odes, freeverse, epic poetry, whatever). As long as you feel comfortable sharing it.

It doesnt have to be Warhammer or even gaming related but I thought a topic would would be a fun way to start.

Here's a fun 40k ode for the Space Wolves detachment release tomorrow.

Ode to the Space Wolves :Bravery at the Burning of Prospero

O mighty Wolves of Fenris, fierce and bold,
In shadows deep where ancient tales are told,
With hearts ablaze and spirits wild and free,
You charged the fray, a tempest on the sea.

When Prospero burned, the skies ignited bright,
The echoes of your howls pierced through the night.
In unity with Custodes, proud and grand,
You forged a bond, a stalwart, iron hand.

The Thousand Sons, with eyes of burning gold,
Beheld your might, their fates in terror rolled.
In awe they stood, as legends came to life,
Before your wrath, the harbingers of strife.

“Behold,” they whispered, “the Wolves of ancient lore,
A force unmatched, a tempest we abhor.
With every strike, the very stars do quake,
In their fierce charge, the galaxy shall break.”

Your valor shone like silver in the dark,
Each warrior a beacon, each heart a spark.
With fangs and claws, you tore through sorcery,
A primal force, a living tapestry.

O Space Wolves, in battle’s fierce embrace,
You carved your names upon the void’s cold face.
In honor bound, your legacy shall rise,
A testament beneath the endless skies.

So let the bards sing of your glorious fight,
Of how you turned the day from dark to light.
For in the annals of the stars, it’s clear,
The Wolves of Fenris shall forever steer.

In awe, the Thousand Sons shall ever know,
No might compares to the Wolves’ fierce glow.
In every howl, in every clash of steel,
Your bravery, eternal, shall reveal.

This one needs a little work, but I was trying to convey the lack of Xenos in the Horus Heresy game.

In the grimdark future, where shadows loom,
The galaxy's teeming, but not with a bloom.
No Orks with their laughter, no Aeldari grace,
In the Horus Heresy, they’ve lost their place.

“Where are the green skins?” the players all cry,
“Where’s the sleek craftworld, soaring high in the sky?”
But Games Workshop chuckled, with a wink and a grin,
“This tale’s about humans, let the chaos begin!”

The Imperium’s splendor, the traitors’ dark schemes,
A galaxy fractured, shattering dreams.
With Primarchs and legions, the focus is clear,
No time for Xenos when the end is so near.

Orks would just brawl, and ruin the plot,
While Aeldari would whisper, “This isn’t our lot.”
The galaxy’s fate hangs by a thread,
Why add more chaos when the humans are dead?

So raise up your dice, let the battles commence,
In a universe where the stakes are immense.
For in this grand saga of betrayal and strife,
The only Xenos here are the ones in your life!

My attempt to pen a kid-friendly poem about the Titans of the Legio Titanicus.

Its still a work in progress.

In the grim dark future, where darkness prevails,
The Titans advance, their power never fails.
With feet like mountains, they stomp and they smash,
Turning foes into paste with a single, loud "Crash!"

Oh, Imperial Titans, so grand and so tall,
You crush all the buildings, you flatten them all.
A city's a playground, a battlefield's toy,
With each thunderous step, you bring chaos and joy.

"Oops! Was that your tank?" they chuckle with glee,
As they squash it like bugs, oh, what a sight to see!
"Sorry, dear guardsmen, didn't see you there,
But you really should watch where you're going, I swear!"

With plasma and missiles, they rain down the fire,
But it's the squishing of foes that they truly admire.
So here's to the Titans, those giants of war,
May their footsteps be heavy, and their stomps never bore!

Any suggestions are always welcome.

Just working through some different types of poems...

I'm taking requests...

Elegy for Cadia

In the shadow of the Eye, where hope once stood tall,
Cadia, proud bastion, now echoes your fall.
Once your spires reached high, kissed by the stars,
Now silence reigns where the battle left scars.

The drums of war thundered, a relentless tide,
As the forces of Chaos surged, their fury untried.
Brave souls stood defiant, with faith as their shield,
Yet the darkness encroached, and the light was repealed.

O Cadia, your warriors, steadfast and true,
Fought for the Imperium, for me and for you.
With bolters a-blazing, they faced down the night,
But the stars wept for you, extinguished your light.

The ground shook with fury, the skies turned to ash,
As the gates of your fortress fell in a crash.
Yet in every fallen, a legacy grows,
In the hearts of the living, your spirit still glows.

So we mourn for your glory, for the lives that were lost,
For the dreams that were shattered, and the terrible cost.
Though the galaxy darkens, and hope seems to fade,
In the memory of Cadia, a new dawn is made.

I'm trying to branch out and cover some of the other Warhammer 40k factions.... I'm working on an Ahriman poem, right now.

But first, a Haiku!

C.S. Goto's writing style and handling of the Blood Ravens' story have been... contentious, to say the least. So I thought I would write a poem "honoring" the Blood Ravens and C.S. Goto.

An Ode to The Blood Ravens (Dawn of War Edition)

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium's night,
The Blood Ravens march, with their power fists shining bright,
But little do they know, their story's been told,
By C.S. Goto, the author, who's been known to be... bold.

He wrote of their battles, of their honor and might,
But forgot the canon, and made up his own sight,
He ignored the lore, and made the Ravens do,
Things that made fans cry, "What's going on? This isn't true!"

The great Captain, Gabriel, would weep and wail,
If he knew how his story was being told, and how it would fail,
The Blood Ravens' history, a mess of contradictions and strife,
Thanks to Goto's writing, which is more like a bad, grimdark life.

But still, people love them, despite the literary crime,
They see the good in the Ravens, and ignores the bad writing's grime,
So here's to the Blood Ravens, and their fans who persevere,
May their story be told better, and their honor be clear!

Against my better judgement, I've written my first Chaos related poem as a counter to the Space Wolves Ode I wrote earlier.

I aimed for the style of ancient Greek odes:

Ode to the Thousand Sons

Oh, sons of Magnus, born of fire and flame,
Your hearts ablaze with knowledge, your souls aflame.
You sought to wield the power of the warp and time,
To bend reality to your will, to make the impossible sublime.

Ahriman, your name is whispered in awe and reverence,
A master of the mystic arts, a weaver of fate's dark essence.
Your eyes, like stars, shine bright with ancient wisdom's light,
Guiding your brothers through the labyrinth of the warp's dark night.

Your Legion, forged in the crucible of Tizca's burning sands,
Tempered by the trials of the Great Crusade's unforgiving hands.
You walked the thin line between sanity and madness, ever true,
To the ideals of your Primarch, and the secrets he imparted to you.

Your sorcery, a gift from the gods, a key to unlock the gates,
Of hidden knowledge, and the mysteries that lie beyond the fates.
You wielded it with precision, with art and with design,
To shape the universe, to make the impossible align.

Oh, Thousand Sons, your legacy lives on, a testament to your might,
A shining beacon in the darkness, a guiding light in the endless night.
Your names etched in the annals of history, forever told,
As heroes, as visionaries, as the masters of the mystic arts, forever to hold.

So what do you think?

Tau tomorrow!

I snagged this from another thread.

 Lathe Biosas wrote:
Just because I was bored... an ode to an old friend who will not be missed...

Ode to the (Finecast) Eldar Warp Spider

Oh, Warp Spider, bane of the tabletop scene,
In your Finecast form, you were seldom seen.
A creature of grace, or so they would claim,
Yet your brittle limbs brought only shame.

With a flick of your wrist, you’d leap through the air,
But alas, dear model, you’d often despair.
For every bold jump, a crack would ensue,
A shattered reminder of what once was true.

Your web-slinging prowess, a sight to behold,
Yet your resin would warp, and your paint would grow old.
A delicate dancer, you’d trip on your feet,
A miniature marvel, now just a defeat.

Oh, how we lamented your fragile design,
With each broken piece, we’d pour out our wine.
“Fear not!” they would say, “For the new ones are here!”
But we’ll always remember your cringe-worthy cheer.

Now the new models shine, with detail and might,
While you, dear Warp Spider, fade into the night.
A relic of chaos, a laugh in the past,
In the annals of gaming, your legacy’s cast.

So here’s to the Warp Spider, once loved, now a jest,
A miniature misfit, you’ve failed every test.
Though you’ve left us in laughter, we bid you adieu,
In the halls of our hearts, there’s still room for you.

I'm starting to wonder if anyone reads these works of mine...

Well until the angry mob shows up with torches and pitchforks, the show will go on!

Tonight I aim for the lowest of low hanging fruit... Tau in melee combat!

Enjoy!

Honour Blades are Just for Show

Tau Fire Warriors, so brave and so fine,
Their guns are their glory, their melee skills... not so divine.
They march into battle, with rifles held high,
Completely ignoring the fact that they can't punch or kick to save their lives.

Their training manuals say, "Don't get too close, just shoot!"
Their instructors whisper, "Melee's not what we do, just stay aloof!"
They practice their marksmanship, with precision and care,
But hand-to-hand combat? Ha! They'd rather not be there.

Their enemies laugh and jeer, as they charge into the fray,
The Tau Fire Warriors, with their guns, "We'll just shoot you away!"
But when the fight gets close, and the guns are laid aside,
The Tau are like, "Uh, what do we do now? We didn't read that chapter in our guide!"

Their Commander says, "Don't worry, just use your... um... feet?"
The Fire Warriors look at each other, "Uh, which one's the best technique?"
They flail and they stumble, and they trip on their own feet,
It's a good thing they have their guns, or they'd be beat.

So here's to the Tau Fire Warriors, and their... unique skillset,
May their guns always be loud, and their melee skills... well, not so much, let's forget!

Black Templars prevail.

Daemons tremble at their name

Tomorrow I'll cover other factions of the Imperium.

Loyal to the end.

Xenos foes beware,
Deathwatch warriors stand guard,
Unyielding, unbound.

Working on Adeptus Custodes for tomorrow... maybe Tau if I can find a color that works.

Hope is but a dream.

Ultramarine might,

Defenders of man.

Sorry, had to take a day off, my noir novella needed some extra editing.

Totally unrelated to warhammer, but still in the realm of science fiction... Here are two Haiku inspired by Stargate SG-1:

Gates of stars align,
Heroes traverse worlds unknown,
Courage lights the way.

Ancient secrets call,
Through the wormhole, they journey,
Unity in strife.

Thought I would try some different styles of poetry out.

Tanka: A Japanese form consisting of five lines with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5-7-7, often exploring nature or emotions.

In the warp's embrace,
Chaos dances, shadows writhe,
Hope flickers like stars,
Abolish the heretic,
For the Emperor, we fight.

Another day, another style to try. Today is my attempt at a Ghazal.

This is a form originating from Arabic poetry, consisting of rhyming couplets and a refrain, often exploring themes of love and loss.

In the night, the stars bleed crimson,
The echoes of war, a haunting hymn sung.

The fallen heroes whisper tales of glory,
In the shadows of the past, their fates are flung.

The battle rages on, a dance of death,
In the name of the Emperor, our souls are strung.

Today, let's focus on a Limerick.

A Limerick is a humorous five-line poem with a specific rhythm and an AABBA rhyme scheme, often featuring whimsical or absurd themes.

Limerick: The Adeptus Mechanicus

There once was a Tech-Priest so fine,
In the Adeptus Mechanicus' shrine,
He worshipped with zeal,
The Omnissiah's reveal,
And kept the machines in their prime.

Acrostic: A poem where the first letter of each line spells out a word or message when read vertically.

Today, the topic is of my favorite 40k army that proves you don't need tree tunk legs... The Skitarii of the Adeptus Mechanicus!

Strength in numbers, they march as one,
Keeping the secrets of the Machine God,
In servitude to the Omnissiah's will,
Technological warriors, relentless and still.
Adaptable minds, with circuits entwined,
Robotic precision, their purpose defined,
In the heart of battle, they stand undeterred,
In the name of the Imperium, their voices are heard.

I'm so tired, must go back and study more. This poem has made me delirious... Enjoy!

In grim darkness, we find delight
A universe of pain, a wondrous sight
The Imperium's might, a beacon bright
A never-ending war, a joyful fight

The Emperor's light, a guiding ray
Leads us through the darkness of each day
The screams of mutants, music to our ears
The stench of death, a perfume that brings us cheer

The Orks, so green and full of glee
Their love of violence, a sight to see
The Eldar, so elegant and refined
Their suicidal tendencies, a joy of mine

The Tyranids, a swarm of delight
Their hunger for flesh, a wondrous sight
The Necrons, so ancient and so cold
Their love of murder, a story to be told

In this grim darkness, we find our bliss
A universe of war, a never-ending kiss
So let us raise our bolters high
And celebrate the joy, that only war can bring to the sky

Just a bit of free verse about our favorite bodyguards: The Adeptus Custodes.

In the golden halls of Terra,
where shadows whisper of ancient wars,
the Adeptus Custodes stand,
sentinels of the Emperor’s will,
clad in armor that gleams like the sun,
each step a thunderous echo of duty.

Born of the gene,
crafted in the fires of the Astronomican,
they are the guardians of the sacred throne,
a living testament to the Emperor’s might,
their eyes, like twin stars,
piercing the veil of time and treachery.

Silent as the void,
they move with purpose,
each breath a prayer,
each heartbeat a vow,
to protect, to serve,
to be the bulwark against the encroaching dark.

In the depths of the Imperial Palace,
where history is etched in blood and sacrifice,
they stand watch,
unwavering, unyielding,
the last line of defense
against the chaos that seeks to consume.

With spears of gold and shields of faith,
they march into the fray,
a storm of righteous fury,
for they are not mere soldiers,
but the embodiment of the Emperor’s wrath,
the light that pierces the night.

And when the galaxy trembles,
when the stars themselves seem to weep,
the Adeptus Custodes rise,
a beacon of hope,
a reminder that even in the darkest hour,
the Emperor’s will shall prevail.

Ode to Field Marshal Montgomery

In sun-baked sands where shadows stretch and sway,
A leader rose, bold Montgomery, bright as day.
With steely gaze and courage forged in fire,
He rallied men, igniting hope’s desire.

From Egypt’s shores to Libya’s rugged land,
He charted paths where others dared not stand.
In North Africa, where the desert winds did howl,
He faced the Axis with a resolute scowl.

At El Alamein, the tide began to turn,
With every clash, the flames of freedom burn.
His strategies, like stars, aligned the night,
A master tactician, guiding with insight.

With steadfast heart, he led the brave and bold,
Through trials fierce, their spirits never cold.
The desert’s heat could not their valor quell,
For Montgomery’s name rang like a battle bell.

He forged alliances, united the ranks,
With every victory, he filled the tanks.
The Eighth Army surged, a relentless tide,
With Montgomery’s vision as their guide.

O, Field Marshal, in history’s embrace,
Your legacy endures, a timeless grace.
In North Africa, where the battles roared,
You carved a path where freedom was restored.

So let us raise our voices, sing your praise,
For courage, wisdom, and those fateful days.
In the annals of war, your name shall stand,
A beacon of hope in a troubled land.
