Now the kids are a bit older we are converting the play room (that is mostly the dog room) into a multi-user hobby room with project desks for me and both kids. Opportunity!

As my son will definately need to inherit my current lamp so he can progress his recent descent into Marines, I will need a new lamp and I was wondering what the Dakka verse might recommend. My eyesight is getting noticeably less flexible as well so pondering a magnifier lamp if anyone has any experience either way.

I wear glasses full time, and have never gotten along with head mounted magnifiers or reading glasses due to the fact of constant changing for different distances.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I am thinking about buying this light when it comes out in a few days. I have a similar, crappier setup made out of multiple cheap lights.

I own this desk lamp with a magnify lens in it. It works pretty much as advertised but I very rarely use it. It's usually easier to just put the model right next to my face.

It looks like the company I got mine from no longer makes them, but I use this style:

Lens surrounded by adjustable LEDs, on an arm. Took a little bit to get used to, but can’t paint without it these days.

I would love to pick up one of these some day...

I also saw the Lucent, but it will depend on shipping costs. The R9 is out of my price range unfortunately as it looks lovely.

Has anyone tried an LED arch?

@Nevelon - what kind of magnification/focus distance does it have? I watched some videos that suggest a 2.25x and 8” focal length are optimal.

@theODB - unfortunately to be able to focus close up I need to take my glasses off, and that means I can’t see anything beyond hand-in-front-of-face distance so seeing paint racks at the back of the desk is right out.

I have no clue. It was sent to me for free if I wrote a review, so I never really studied the specs. It works, amd I can’t complain about the price I paid…

It took so e time not to bump the back of my brushes against it, and you have to adjust it to get the distance from eye to lense to mini right. But that’s not hard.
