Christmas approaches, so I best get off my rump and decide on my Christmas project for the year. This time I'm going with Thousand Sons, like the fool that I am. But the Battleforce box and Combat Patrol this year were really nice. But for my trial model, I decided on the Sorcerer Lord in Terminator Armor (heck of a mouthful, that), because who doesn't love that model?
LOL just kidding, this mini looks like ass. The head is goofy, the spike racks don't match the Thousand Sons aesthetic, and that staff is garbage tier nonsense. Now, I could just grab a Scarab Occult Terminator and jazz him up a bit, but I thought some conversion work would do this old model some good.
So I grabbed a SOC head, left out the spiky racks, cut the bayonet and skull off the combi-bolter, and stole a Xenophase Blade from the Deathwatch Veterans kit. I love that the Xenophase Blade harkens back to the OG Force Weapons' excessive greebling, and the curved blade is stylistically similar to the SOC khopesh weapons. And I threw in the familiar, because why not? I'm not actually speedpainting this mini, so an extra character on the base isn't an issue.
This is the color scheme for the Crystal Harbingers, who apparently delve into the Silver Towers to do divinations and stuff, the mad lads.
I started from a black primer and went with Vallejo Bright Bronze as my basecoat. Then a coat of Fyreslayer Flesh Contrast Paint to shade it, followed by highlights of the original color. When I do the army proper, that stage will be a drybrush, but fancy lad here gets the full treatment. Then Vallejo Heavy Violet as the base for the panels with a ProAcryl Faded Plum as edge highlights. Blue elements are Vallejo Deep Sky Blue followed by Terradon Turquoise contrast paint and Deep Sky Blue highlights.
For the white, it's Vallejo Ghost Grey followed by Apothecary White Contrast (thinned), then layered up with Ghost Grey and finally Pro Acryl Titanium White. The photography doesn't really show the white well, but you do what you can. I kind of regret doing the familiar's robe in white as well, but the army's scheme is white cloth.
Basing matches my Grey Knights, spooky purple flora and strange crystals everywhere. They can duke it out over a strange landscape full of Warp nonsense.
