I love Stargate. I’ve been a fan since the original movie.
But…it could go wrong so easily.
Upside I’m happy this isn’t a reboot, but “a new chapter”.

Not sure you can reboot it to be honest.
The premise itself is pretty wide. But as the original was set in the then modern day? I don’t feel there’s anything to reinterpret.
It already covered how small, strategic strikes, trade and cooperation can topple dictators.
On the surface, the mere handful of SG team bringing down the Goa’ulds galactic empire does seem silly. Until you consider the dynamics.
The God’uld kept their vassals in a primitive state, to prevent successful rebellions. And like the Jem Hadar of DS9? The Jaffa people were, until the advent of Tretonin, were reliant on larval Goa’uld, keeping them in metaphorical chains.
This lead to the widespread belief they were indeed Gods. They held all the power, and all the technology they passed off as Godly powers.
They also remained largely without unification, each System Lord held in check by the others, with only the odd skirmish between them.
Then came Abydos, and the death of Ra. Humankind then really got their arse in their hands, and one by one the System Lords were killed. Not just by the SGC and their allies - but by internal strife as they scrambled to claim the territories and holdings of fallen Goa’uld.
Anubis did a lot of that heavy lifting. And so when he was taken care of? The remaining System Lords were shattered, and pretty easy pickings.
And so the fall felt…kinda inevitable. A race so used to having it all their own way, suddenly challenged by dynamic upstarts using tactics they’ve not really experienced before.
Add in that as the Goa’ulds weaknesses were exposed and ever more were slain? So grew the Jaffa Rebellion against their false gods.

I hope that they'll give some closure on the previous chapter (i.e., Stargate Universe).

It would need to be rebooted to reset the escalation clock I think. If it’s just a continuation of SG1, then earth would already have major spacecraft and god tech, as well as friendship with godlike beings. Seems like getting stakes that modern newcomers to the franchise to understand would be hard.

Not necessarily.
By the end of SG-1 and Atlantis? There are no major threats left to Earth. The three major antagonists are contained, or entirely done away with (ref Adria and the Ori).
We’re repeatedly told that the Stargate Programme is flipping expensive to run.
Now, what tends to happen to major military projects in peacetime? Mothballs. And it’s not like the Asgard Tech is something all that valuable to a single planet, nor something you’d really want to trade with among your allies and contemporaries.
So…a downscaling. Keep the existing Capital Ships, armed with those horrendously powerful Asgard Beam Weapons. But for defending a single planet? They’re actually kinda plenty. Nobodies else’s ships and weapons even come close to matching you at that point.
Lay off the expansion. Lay off further investment. Just kinda….maintain. Fall into your sense of safety. The Lucian Alliance and other fairly minor to middling powers can’t possibly attack us…..can they.
And from there? The roots of a new story might find fertile soil.

This is a good day for science fiction in general as the TV shows are suprisingly popular - as much as Star Wars and Star Trek. The 1994 classic film was as far as I went with it, but the TV shows have built a beloved universe of adventure that is worth carrying on with.
I will at least try and watch the first episode, and see how it goes.

I know SG-1 and Atlantis have a fairly extensive following, but I don't think the shows ever had crossover success.
I think the series is similar to BSG in that a full reboot could be far more successful than a continuation.

Surely it has to be another another crew cut of from the main galaxy, otherwise they could just solve everything with Asgard tech.

If the whole show is about the process of going public with the Stargate program, addressing the fallout, and integrating alien tech, ideas and people into Earth society, the Asgard tech will be a lot of fun.
“How long have we had teleporters?”
“I’m sorry, did you say a whole building?”
“How many CEOs were aliens or their collaborators?”

Well, traditionally... civil war. Trump gets in and now rather than look foolish with Tariffs he can have his guys take the spaceship and take what he wants as America's reward for saving the war. Yes, the writers could keep escalating, just like other series. But now? Its yet another universe shaking threat!
Wracking my brains for who didn't do this. I think B5 did it on its own terms going off into the future. The expanse series ended before it got to the escalations in the books, indeed in that series everyone was actually getting ground down quite significantly and towards the end junker belter ships started to be important.

Honestly I can see politics (not real world as such) being brought into it.
Consider the Lucian Alliance. They began as a loose confederation of smugglers and other chancers, with a fleer comprised of captured Goa'uld ships.
25 or so years on? How are they shaping up? Does the Tau'ri defeating the Goa'uld, Replicators, Ori and Wraith (given they did kinda go and pick those fights first) still carry any water?
How to regular humans feel about the whole affair? I mean, its an expensive programme and has brought wondrous technology home. But how has that affected the world? Is it even still a secret?
How would you feel if tomorrow, you found out that we'd had safe, reliable and long distance teleportation (Asgard tech) for 20 years, but you'd still been paying for flights and your commute?
We saw a glimpse of that with the Aschen, in a future that SG-1 managed to prevent. What might the Online Grifter do with such information if its in the public eye?
What might it do to the economy if we suddenly need no transport be it public or private? No delivery drivers, no cars, no buses, no planes, no trains. Just book your teleportation time, be ready with your bags and BOOF! Suddenly you're in the Bahamas to pursue dusky maidens and probably get yourself arrested.
The Wraith aren't entirely done away with in the Pegasus Galaxy either - though I understand that's covered further in spin-off novels I've not read.
How might loony lefties feel about it, knowing that outside of the Asgard tech, everything was pinched from natives. Because I'm not joking when I say the SGC nicked pretty much anything that wasn't nailed down, and if they had time they'd prise the nails up and nick those too.
How are the Jaffa doing? Has a replacement therapy for Tretonin been found? If not, how is that being interpreted? Is it just another hollow promise from allies that claim to be benevolent but you're starting to suspect kinda like you having such a glaring, species threatening achilles heel?

Yea see I don't think any of that is interesting to new viewers I'd bet top dollar the premise of the show is "4 people go through a magic hoop to see what's up on Planet Of The Day" It's just, how do you do that while acknowledging all the development that's happened before?

I think you just start out with Sam as the General in charge of the SGC. And mainly follow a new team to do xyz either in the Ori universe, pegasus, or even around the milky way since they touched on such a small portion of the gate addresses in the first series. You'll have to find a new bad guy but something like the Lucien Alliance or even a culture like that one the Gould wiped out that had the ion cannons could work as a low level threat to build up. Limited super technology because parts are hard hand waving. Seems doable. Atlantis shouldn't have honestly worked and it was great.

SG1 and Atlantis were both pretty great to me. It might have been because the world was getting so much bigger for SG1 and Atlantis was a kind of reset so I could get my more early style SG1 along with the big universe SG1. Even going back I still enjoy Atlantis. Especially more than post RDA being the colonel. Damn did that due check out after season 7.

Atlantis had a certain lack of focus.
I feel the human form replicators were an error, and we never did find out what happened to Lt Ford and his Wraith Juice Addiction related super powers.
This is write most large in regular changes to High Heedyin.
I do still enjoy it. But it’s just not as satisfying as SG-1.

It was a spinoff, with big shoes to fill, and needing to be essentially the same thing but at the same time also not repeating what SG-1 did. Can't imagine pulling that off significantly better than it did. And it gave us Rodney, who was possibly the most impressive bit character uplift in all television. And, personally, pulling Trek cast worked better for me than pulling Farscape cast.

Pretty much all the characters were pretty solid. Ronin is of course the break out star and has gone to massive things. Not just because he’s a right handsome devil, but he also exudes charisma and screen presence.
