An avian Arch-Knight and leaping Kroot Carnivore return as this year’s Boxing Day Miniatures

It’s the first day of December, and we’re all getting ready for a very Warhammer Christmas. We’ve opened our first window on the Grotmas Calendar, and now we’re revealing this year’s pair of Boxing Day* miniatures.

That’s right, 2025’s Boxing Day miniatures are two returning Commemorative Series entries – The Hunter Strikes for the T’au Empire and The Steel Rook for Cities of Sigmar.

Both are exceptionally popular miniatures that have previously only been available at events. We’ve had a lot of requests for them both, so we’re making them available in Warhammer stores from Friday the 26th of December.

If you receive some Warhammer vouchers over Christmas – the perfect gift to get for the Warhammer fan in your life who you think might have everything – they’re an ideal pick up. They’ll be available while stocks last, but don’t worry if you’re unable to escape end-of-year festivities, or don’t want to brave the cold, as you’ll have a chance to order these online from Saturday the 10th of January 2026. Just like the in-store versions, these will be available while stocks last.

Is that kroot really something that there's been "a lot of requests for"? The Steel Rook miniature I can understand as it's fantastic, but the Kroot is pretty much just one of the basic kroot miniatures with a slight repose. It's not even at least a Shaper or something like that with some unique elements.

Steel Rook was also Hen’s Teeth to get hold of, due to a genuine lack of Events during its time in the Sun.

I managed to bag a few at Warhammer World’s Store Anniversary.

The Kroot? Not sure on level of demand, but it is quite a nice model.

Yeah the Rook Knight is very tempting. And I will be back in the US too.
Any idea about pricing?

I might not be able to make it on the 26th though, I prefer to spend a traditional Boxing Day with friends and family.

If not too overpriced, might just get the knight for Trench Crusade.

Sure. It's a nice pose. Very dynamic. I'd request it.

Honestly I'm really glad to see event models like this coming around again for releases. They are great designs and it gives everyone a chance to get them. Shame that they couldn't make it a trio and include that new Wight King that is even more impossible to get hold of as it only appears at new 3rd party store stocking GW events.

The Kroot might be a victim of slow corporate reaction times. He predates the recent attention Kroot got, and in that time people may have lamented that they had a hard time getting something GW that had steadfastly ignored for two decades. Then the regular Kroot releases gave people their Tau auxiliary fix but the rerelease of the limited model was already in motion and scheduled for long after the original interest was moot.

The current collector's series Warhammer+ Necromancer is 45USD. Character prices are all over the place, but I'd expect the knight and Kroot to come in around that price point. Maybe a little more. Maybe a little less. Knowing GW, maybe not a little less.

And not every 3rd Party store opening.

We’ve one down the old High Street, and I managed to snaffle the Carl Weathers Catachan. But no sign of the Wight King at all.

Is the Rook Knight monopoose or is it a sprue?

Sprue, but single build.

Also, apologies if I’m missing a joke in your post. I think I probably am, but brain isn’t getting it

I may have to nab that rook knight online (if possible) after Boxing Day. I've wanted the model since it was first shown off but there's no official GW stores by me.

What game is the Rook used in?

The Rook was insanely popular when it first launched. Honestly half surprised GW didn't make a rook-armour infantry unit for Cities

It’s a very John Blanche/Ian Miller.

Granted not quite as gnarly. But its roots are deep in Warhammer’s early styling.

Nah, it was just another former Cursed City model.

Jokes aside, it would really have been a nice and fitting addition to CC.

I do hope the online stock won't be a case of "sold out 2.5 minutes after pre-orders open". They mentioned some kind of online release back when it was first shown and I've quite looked forward to that knight finally becoming available; just such a good design.
