Tapping the Glass at the Herpetarium

Here's what I have so far. By the weekend I'll have a phobos marine and next week I'll have a grey knight (don't ask).

What do I need next?

I was thinking of stealing Vulkan He'stan and painting him red.

Agree that a squad of intercessors would fit nicely.

You should have a healthy amount of AV for that point level. Unless you run up against a knights player, but what are the odds of that?

So the things to look for is scoring objectives, doing secondaries, and things like mobility and table control.

I might grab a unit with scout/infiltrate/deep strike/a good move in addition to the intercessors. We have a lot that can all do the job. Grab one that you like.

From a practical PoV, you are probably going to need to add 2-4 units to get your points to 1k, which is about a combat patrol worth, so check those boxes so you can get stuff at a discount.

Sadly, I can't find the Salamanders Combat Patrol on the cheap. Was it LE or something?

What other CPs are good?

Yeah, as far as I'm aware it was. :(

I was going to recommend that was well if you could find it. Tossing him in with a blob of Infernus marines is a pretty solid threat at 1k and if you're in the detachment that can give them Dev Wounds, even better.

If you want to lean with flamers, he basic one with a squad of infurnus, TDA and 2 characters might not be a bad call.

Rules come and go. Get minis you like. There is a lot of personal preference in list building.

I've always wanted to copy Dawn of War with some Drop Pods, a close combat Dreadnought, flamers, and eventually the Blood Ravens Imperial Knight.

You can’t drop pod gravis units, so will need to find another way for your eradicators to move around, but there are still plenty of fun things you can steel rain down. You can assault out of them, but the unit needs to disembark 9+ inches away, so it’s going to be a long one. Still close enough to flamer

If you are headed down a salamander playstyle, with Vulcan, 5-10 infernus marines should be a solid pick. They are in a lot of the starter boxes, so I’d guess you could pick them up cheep. And they would do well out of drop pods.

I’m not sure how efficient the dreads are for their points these days, but they do what they say they do. Some shooting, some punching, some tanking.

Some intercessors, infernus, pair of pods, and a redemptor (or brutalis) will probably get you close to a 1k list added onto what you have. And should be a decent TAC force.

The 1k list looks a little light on AV, but would probably be fine.

Instead of the repulsor executioner, mybe a regular one with full las? The extra transport space could fit the eradicators alongside the BGV.

You can mix squads in Transports?

I didn't know that.

Back to the army builder....

(Can one unit.get out and the other stay in?)

I’d have to check the fine print, but pretty sure they can stay or go as you want. Mono-unit transports have been gone for a few editions now. Just keep an eye on the restrictions of who can embark and how many seats they take.

Yes.
Unless its something like a drop pod where it states everyone disembarks.
Or they're forced out when the transport dies.

Thanks!

Oh, and I was reading where I can't have more than 50% of my army in reserves....

So I need to rethink my 1k list.

Check all the fine print. I thought that the percent restrictions were for putting extra units into strategic reserves, and did not count things like pods that went into normal reserves.

I’m not 100 up on all the FAQs, so grain of salt.

Back from the drawing board... this better?

Using Vulkan He'stan (who may be a Custodes mixed with a Primaris Marine) and the Forgefather's Seekers Detachment, I attempted to reign in the madness... (expect for the DoW 3 Knight Paladin).

Tell me what you think before I toss more money at this. (I'm going to pick up some Intercessors anyway)
