Dear readers,
I have been playing some campaigns up against the Salamanders and Tyrannids in narrative campaigns. I have to beat a tricky “meatgrinder” mission, like in the old rulebook from 3rd (or was it 4th edition? Memory is a bit fuzzy there). The aim is to keep my force alive with the enemy constantly bringing back it’s loses while I get kills and objectives (and have to survive with at least one unit until the end while being outnumbered… eek).
I picked Dark Eldar or Drukhari in the campaign and I picked Reaper’s Wager. I like gambling on dice and while that is all well and good I guess, this particular faction in the latest rules has a great benefit for destroying enemy units, my army gets rerolls to hits (or at least 1’s, which is pretty great!).
My general strategy is to spread out and dive in the two Talos together as a distraction. The Talos is a very tough unit and can hold its’ own in close quarters. The rest of the army is to spread out thinly while backing each other up blitzing in together as one into close combats. This is more close combat heavy army.
The two ravagers hang back on objectives in or near my own deployment zone, skewering the main threats on their dark lances. It is important to move absolutely everything from their starting locations so the enemy does not just win with alpha strike in deployment or with a good firing line, attack lane or something similar if you follow me.
Moving into control important terrain pieces with the scourges and the rest of the force is the general idea after that, and holding ground against the attackers as the defenders in this scenario.
This is the list:
(Xenos) Drukhari - Reaper's Wager
( HQ)
Succubus (50pts): Warlord
Haemonculus (60pts)
Haemonculus (60pts)
(Battleline)
5x Wracks (60pts)
10x Wyches (90pts)
(Infantry)
5x Mandrakes (75pts)
5x Mandrakes (75pts)
5x Mandrakes (75pts)
5x Scourges with Shardcarbines (75pts)
(Monster)
2x Talos (160pts)
(Vehicle)
Ravager (110pts)
Ravager (110pts)
1000pts.
So that is that, aiming to defeat both the tough firebreathing Salamanders with primaris with firestorm gauntlet aggressors and tyrannids with genestealers, gaunts and big bugs will be tricky.
How would you suggest combating being overwhelmed generally with the scenario? And how would you keep my key units the Succubus (Warlord Glevaneat), Talos, Ravagers at the right targets in city fight style terrain?

[i]Lightning flashes, court of the young king gets dim. Supremely powerful man, came in. He was disabled, he sat, an autarch.
"Well done." said a voice in his head.
"Oh shruiken paper..."said the fat old autarch, thinking, I have lost my mind. Oh said the voice in his mind. He thought of his wife not at all. His wife was crying. He thought shut that screaming baby up. And then his guardians walked in and tied him to his new coffin.
"Praise be my husband." said the potter and she made a wreathe out of wraithbone. She considered the amount to times she had slept with the guardians. While he was getting the hang of his burning hot fusion pistol, or whatever the thing was called, she thought.
"Oh no." she said, and squeezed the farseer.
"You may have to join the guardians or the dire avengers, young woman, of the Biel Tan." said farseer, squeezing his buttocks firm. He loved that autarch, his commander, Spadieth. What a silly name though he said almost and changed fate and tried not to laugh, luckily he had his farseer helmet on. He thought he heard banshee laughter.
"I am too upset to think to greatly about that right now." said the grieving widow, she had a lot of ships to sell, and she had had very little sleep.
"I will attend his next invasion." said Inquistor Ballock. He was known for being cheap, and cheerful. Funerals were not his forte. Drugs, over the counter medicines, boxing, things you could learn from someone at the pubisticuar or whatever it was was, before erm, he thought, and gave up and watched. Some days he thought back on this commander, this eldar or aeldari and thought, this man or whatever it is, has a lot of courage. And hated reporting into the Officio Assassinorium, about every last detail, even when his wrinkles would show. They had given him a very good Vindicare, which the Farseer seemed to enjoy talking to. So he had a promotion, because the Vindicare could see in infra-red and these aliens or xenos could not, despite all their magic and things, he drifted into visualising. The God-Emperor appeared with his tiara, an image that happened too much when he was drinking.
"Very nice." he said. "She or he who thirsts will not get it. They will survive, the guardians of all good species."
"Now with the cerimony." said the champion or exarch of the Banshees Howling.
"Thank you." said the wife croaking.
"We will live on." said the Farseer, clutching his stones.
After a while a space marine reported loudly on the intercomm, that their geneseed had been recovered. And they had to leave. All the Aeldari or Eldar were crying. As the burning disabled course exploded in flame, and the Avatar of Khaine became manifest and strolled to deployment in the webway.
"Thank you." said the Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum commander, indicating to his command squad and ushering away the Vindicare.
"I will go with you courageous Farseer, and suddenly I know these space marines must leave us."
Grabbing this young man, to her, by the chest and arms, the wife said.
"Show me first how you remember my friend, my husband. Love will always been remembered. You and I were lucky to know him."
"Oh, okay, I suppose I am lucky. I will stay here with you for a time. Move out guardsmen." he shouted, booming voice over the intercomm of his command squad. The guardsmen trudged away and the space marines pressed the beads on their heads, the helmetless sergeants and countless hungry guardians left to eat.
Silently a calldius looking like a warlock, followed them into the webway.
"I will leave with the space marines, these Salamanders, fought well against the Genestealer and Tyrannids." looking carefully almost directly at the farseer.
"Very well assassin." said the farseer.
