Hi guys,
I'm starting to play in a friendly gaming shop now and i wanted to ask you, if i can bring this list.
I don't want that the other guy(Ultras) is bored because it's too easy, even though i now that all-melee has "some" disadvantages.
So here we go (it's not tailored against Marines, i made it before i knew any enemy, so think tourney style)

HQ

Hive Tyrant                          117
2x Scything Talons
Warp Blast

Guard                                   45

Elite

3 Warriors                           114
Scthing Talons/Rending Claws
Extended Carapace
Leaping
Adrenal Glances

3 Warriors                           114
Scthing Talons/Rending Claws
Extended Carapace
Leaping
Adrenal Glances

Troops

6 Genestealers                      144
Scything Talons
Extended Carapace

12 Hormagaunts                  120
12 Hormagaunts                  120

Fast

Spore Mine (Bio Acid)          12
Spore Mine (Bio Acid)          12
Spore Mine (Bio Acid)          12

Heavy Support

2 Zoanthropes                     110
Warp Blasts

TOTAL                     1000

Well, thats it.

Some points:

1.The walking Tyrant isn'T the best bet, i know. I plan to make a Flying one, because otherwise...well...he hasn't got a good chance
2. The Genestealers are a bit too upgraded...but i like the scything talons for the extra punch and I will test some other configurations of them in the future.
3. The Spore mines are unusual, but I need all anti-tank i can get. They can pop lightly armored vehicles or annoying 3+ AS troops, that are shooting my guys. So i thought i try these buddies out.
4. Yes, i am serious about the all-melee thing.

Thanks for any comments.

I dont think you have enough models. You have too many points in upgraded stuff, and not enough wounds.

Vehicles will be free to do as they please until you can get your 18" warp blasts up far enough, if they survive.

Well, that vehicles have some kind of free ride is a given. But every point i use for more bodies, it's some points less on the sparse Anti-Tank ability.

That's the basic problem in this list.

So what's your opinion: using more hormagaunts or better more Genestealers?

More hormagaunts, no question. A min unit of stealers like that isnt going to last long. One good volley from anything bigger than a bolter and its gone. You could have another 14 gaunts for those 6 stealers.

Vehicles being free to do what they want is bad. All they have to do is spend the first two turns firing at your anti-tank, and then you prolly wont be able to hurt them much the remainder of the game. And 'Ill keep them in cover' is not always an option, and wont allow you to close with them quickly.

Well, you don't need anything bigger than a bolter to kill hormagaunts. And additionally, I'm worrying about the killing power of my army. Just
holding the enemy down won't win the game. My Warriors (i signore the Tyrant now) are the only unit that can kill something like MeQs in hand to hand and i don't want to count on these buddies alone. Especially because every medium gun on the field will aim at the warriors then therefore killing my rending and my synapse. I think the Genestealers will reduce this danger.

Well...i know i need more numbers, but there are unfortunately other worries i have to take care of. And at the moment it simply feels i have simply too little points for all the jobs on the field...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try that out.

The Hammer

The Zoey's arent melee for one thing. I'm guessing they'll be hanging around the warriors to benefit from Synapse protection against Instant Death?

The Scything talons on the Stealers would probably be better spent on another stealer...talons always looked a little pricy for my liking.

If you're waiting on a flying tyrant, I'd just ditch the Tyrant entirely. Talons+walking means a lot of walking before he does much of anything. Make one group of Warriors your HQ and grab more stealers. I favour stealers over hormies due to hormies being beasts and Lictors being somewhat innefficient considering you're melee-oriented. (5 or 6 on mission level table = trouble) A big whackload of stealers with carapace and maybe scuttlers is a decent foundation for a nid melee army - one classic net build is max stealers + 1-2 gunfex and either a flying tyrant or broodlord with small retinue.

Like the wok says though, your AT is very short ranged - your ability to react is limited by your theme. (which looks like no gaunts and no carnifexes) Do a quick search of some of Yakface's posts - he's a bit more eloquent on 'nid builds than the rest of us - and you should find a fair number of reasons why your kill power will suffer due to your theme.

Your spore mines might also be better all in one group (bad choice that they are - probably would be better to put the points towards giving hormies +1 I and +1 S, which goes a fair ways to putting them on a level footing with MEQs) due to barrage rules - first template has to be centered on an enemy model but other are placed adjacent to the first, therefore a multiple barrage should theoretically cover more figures than a single barrage.

So in a nutshell, 1) Hormies +1 S and I; 2) no talons on stealers; 3) dump tyrant for more stealers. Your best call though, would be to abandon your theme because it really hurts you.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Mhhh...all good points.

I surely know that my Theme makes my army pretty uncompetetive, especially due to the lack of gunfexes.

Even though,I plan to use Carnifexes, but have you seen what an melee-carbifex can do? no? well, that's no suprise because they can't kill anything in CC. I even have a nice Carnifex in my shelf, but i will save him up for some CoD goodness....

And gaunts, well, for 10 points each, i don't think that hormagaunts are the best choice. I would like to use my 3rd edition scythegaunts (for mere 6 pts each), but they aren't any more.

I will consider the Hive Tyrant thing.

The Spore mines idea crossed my mind, but I figured that they will try to hunt down armour anyway, so attacking an infantery squad isn't their purpose anyway.

And i simply love my lictor and he served me well.

I will definaterly get some more Genestealers and don't equip them with Talons...

Thanks again.

Had a game today and it went quite well.

My enemy was an Ultramarine with a lot of basic infantery.

He had:

2 min squads with las/plas
2 big squads with flamer, one with Captain and one with heavy bolter attached.
1 Heavy Bolter Devestator squad
1 Dreadnaught with assaultcannon and Flamer

It was a fun carnage game. His Dread and one Sargeant survided and my zoanthrope. Minor Victory for him.
I hadn't had much luck with my rollings but the army wasn't that bad. Better than i expected.

I plan to use a flying Tyrant in the future and getting more Genestealers...
