Are you out in the middle of nowhere?  Have a wife and it's hard to get away for a saturday to game?  Give Play by e-mail a chance!  We've got a protocal that seems to work for playing via powerpoint and online dice servers that works pretty smoothly.  Send me a PM and I"ll e-mail you the protocal.

Of course software other than powerpoint would work, such as perhapse autorealm.  It's just that lots of people already have and know how to use powerpoint.

In addition to me the user coelomate on these forums has played a game.  He's pretty cool, consider playing him as well.

A bump because it does work! I'm not terribly interested at the moment due to other commitments, but you'd be surprised at how well this guys' system works out!
