I've taken the first two weeks of the year off as frankly January on archaeological sites is generally mildly unpleasant and therefore winter is the time to take leave.

We'll start with Amplipedes

Xilos Snappers from Warlord Games

A Small Construct from the Guilds of Cadwallon board game

Cleavette Disney Princess Zombie

Ariane

and Baldric

All from Zombicide.

Excitingly I've got the shipping notice for my Mythic Battles Pantheon stuff. After seeing Conan I'm rather excited about this I've also been on a rules buying binge with PDFs of Advanced Song of Blade and Heroes, 7 Heroes and Laserstorm all acquired. Equally don't expect much Mythic Battles stuff on here for awhile I'm going to aim to finish rebasing at least one of the three games I'm currently rebasing before starting it.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Beautifully timed during my week off this turned up.

Thats my Titan pledge for Mythic Battles Pantheon.

Lots of wonderful models practically everything I need for Mythic Greek skirmishes however would the gods really be involved in small skirmishes? Personally I'd think they would turn up for mighty battles myself. So when I've got some of the backlog of miniatures cleared i.e. got at least the Zombicide:Black Plague stuff painted and Massive Darkness and probably LOKA based. I'll be treating myself to a bunch of Victrix historical models to act as minions. This'll probably be at either Salute or my Birthday. So they'll be in the back room until then equally I don't actually need them to be rebased to play the game do I?

Yep part of the reason I've left GW and focused more on Board Game low fantasy is the number of models for the price. A lot of people get snooty about board game plastic but if anything these are better guality than a lot of the HIPS I've seen. Give me this stuff over resin anyday.

They shipped all that in retail boxes? That must have been one huge package. Shipping must have cost as much as your KS pledge.

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Not quite but it was substantial fortunately shipping to the UK is far cheaper than to Japan or Australia mainly as most shipping into Europe still heads into British harbours anyway so theres more ships going there. Also sailing conditions and ship requirements for the Atlantic/Pacific and for Baltic/North Sea/English Channel are very different so it maes sense to tranship cargos on the British Atlantic Coast to transfer to European waters. Hopefully this will continue afterwords I'm not looking forward to the extra import duties on a few of these. Also with how well stuffed the retail packaging I doubt they'd have saved much by shipping it any other way. Amazingly complexly organised these big board game boxes. Frankly putting them back is a game in itself.

I imagine that by the same measured standard, water is generally mildly wet.

It's good to see you are still building inspired models. I went back a few pages and found this:

Cheers Skalk mildly unpleasant is the correct phase as A)I'm British and underexageration is an important part of the stiff upper lip. B) The weather in the British Isles is generally wet which makes it feel colder but it's never the 20 below stuff you get in Canada or the Northern States. C) I do still enjoy my job it's called masochism. Glad you've found stuff to enjoy and inspire you. What model projects are you working on by the way?

I genuinely appreciate the art of understatement. Most of my family left Scotland in the 1600's but we're still a stoic and understated bunch with a wry (dry?) sense of humor and taciturn demeanor.

I live in the northeast US (I'm about 1 hr from the Quebec border) and the weather here is mental. -20F (-32C) a few days ago, right now it is 60 degrees. If the roads we not covered with salt from previous snowstorms I'd take my motorcycle for a ride. And 24 hours from now it's supposed to be -10F again. Whoo,

I enjoy my job as well. It's called a mortgage and a son in college.

My model projects range from a massive surge in my Slave to Darkness Chaos Warrior army to working on 7 year old terrain modeling projects. I have some excellent pieces that I built years ago and haven't made the time to complete. Coming back to Dakka has sparked the builder in me and I want to start putting together models I haven't even taken out of the box yet (such as the Bastion I bought in 2012) and the disciplined part of me is struggling to keep the paint flowing until another terrain piece is completed. What I really should be doing is putting together a Mantix terrain collection a buddy of mine picked up because I said I'd put it together and paint it. I'm going to post some of it on my terrain thread and hope the feedback keeps me motivated to finish the project.

Looking forward to seeing whatever you post next.

Now last year I backed several big board games kickstarters and another one as arrived at home today.

I'm looking forward to playing this game and using the models in various other skirmish games. I'm also hmming and ahing about adding some of the Warlord Games Samurai to make an army eventually.

Glynda enters the fray

Reeds based on a reminder by Theophony

These are for Ghost Archipelago as is this Jungle Spider

This Crossbowman

and these Skeletons can do service in both

The Skeletons are from Conan and might also make a Revenant regiment in my KoW Undead Army as well. As they look far more ornate than regular KoW skellies

This Snow Gorilla is resolutely for Vanilla Frostgrave

as is this Tracker

Just paint brush bristles I used PVA as cheap mans water effect as well. It's actually a far smaller Copplestone Castings spider Commissar Khaine, and the Gorillas from Wargames Foundry.

Got a couple of heroes from Zombicide done
Arnaud

and Julian

as well as a Massive Darkness Flesh Golem

and a Mantic Dwarfen Revenant

I also painted up these Reptisaurians

Now my FLGS had some Warhammer reduced to half off. So I picked up a Warp Lightning Cannon and the Bastiladon. Bastiladon is a fun kit and has alrady contributed snakes, skinks and a couple of techno gizmos as well as the monster itself. I've also got Lost Colossus and the Snakemen coming from Frostgrave so I'm at a fantasy skirmish force which could be bulked up to a full army if I so desire.......

Mantic can be rather hit and miss but they are generally fine and usually cheaper than the GW equivalent. The Dungeon Saga monsters are relatively nice which is where thats from. The Mantic Skeletons I got on offer worked out at £40 for a 100 rather than GW's 10 for £15.50. Equally they have some stinkers in the range and a lot of models are Restic which is a pain.

Fair enough Skalk. I'll admit most of my Mantic stuff was cheap enough I can forgive more annoying assembly.
Continuing on Mantic, these Undead are from Dungeon Saga.

A Gremlin

An Arab Marksman

Morgan from Zombicide

and some Mummies

I picked up this jar of crystals for £2 from a charity shop based up and painted they make excellent objectives.

Almost certainly more than I'll ever need and theres definitely enough for a tournament in there. I'm planning to do several sets in various colours for different scenarios.

Crystals- that's such an excellent idea! I've finally talked my game group into trying Mordheim again and I'm looking for Wyrdstone. Also really looking forward to having motivation to finish some of my Mordheim terrain. I build / finish terrain based on the game I'm playing at the time and I've got a lot of Mordheim 3/4 done.

Cheers Skalk. This Easter I was planning to do some chores but rain stopped play.....
I've been chatting around the club with several people interested in going back to Frostgrave and so I took advantage of the time and some expanded polystyrene packaging and made a bunch of simple ruins. Nothing fancy but cheap cheerful and climbable plenty of heights for interest. All it is is simple chunks based covered in papier mache with cardboard tiles added.

New models from the Easter weekend include two models from Midlam an Apprentice and an Arabian Sorceress

and two from Mantic's Loka sets a Dryad and an Elemental painted up as a Dust Devil

A Shield Maiden Archer

and a Man-at-Arms from Fireforge Games

An Imp

A Skeleton

and a Werewolf

as well as Ostokar complete this post

This week I've had two fun parcels arrive Landsknecht and Woodland Indians from the Warlord Games sale and Snakemen from the Lost Colossus kickstarter and next week is Salute not got a wishlist yet this year.
