Back from what seemed to be a short trip... turns out it was over 5 weeks!

Started this guy before I left. He was a leftover of Barzam's he never got around to painting.

Since I only had the one, I figured I'd do something different than the typical red for him. I'll have him hang out with tin can Sorsha whenever I get around to picking her up.

Speaking of things Barzam gave me, I got this set of Glavewraith Stalkers from him for the big four oh birthday. Jet lag and an inability to sleep means they got done right quick!

As I've been known to do, I will happily sing the praises of these easy to build kits. Affordable, well sculpted, nice bases... I'm a happy camper.

I've got the Banshees as well, but not sure when I'll get to them. I have an incredibly large pileup of stuff to paint, along with the Tharn I started before I left. The hope is to churn through as many unfinished models as possible before I head back to work. I think I can do it...

You got those ghosteses done quick. I suppose they'd be relatively easy to paint though. It looks like their bases probably took longer. They came out very nice though. Good choice on lining the Shocktroop in blue, too. It really helps make the white armor pop.

Their bases did take longer than the actual ghosts. At least the Soul Wars versions don't have custom bases, I can slop through them quickly.

Speaking of quick, here's another figure I got on either Monday or Tuesday and jet lagged my way through.

Sergeant Dragos Dragadovich of Khador's Man-O-War Demolition Corps. Dude's got some custom man-o-war armor as well as a pair of modified ice hammers the demo corp use. I really like this figure, and he had me sold on the whole range of Man-O-War from the moment I saw him. Even if he never gets used in an official Khadorian capacity, him and his Forgeseer friend are going to see use in other games.

Something that took me quite a while to get wrapped up however, were my Tharn. I showed these three off a while back, and I've had a set of Blood pack hunters sitting in front of me for just as long.

Here's the Whitemane, which is the grizzled elder of the tribe.

The Shaman, wiith a weird pose that didn't want to go together, requiring pinning and greenstuff to get his staff arm attached.

...and the Chieftain himself, ready to sacrifice puny weaklings in the name of the Devourer.

I like the Tharn, but dang are they cluttered up with tattered rags and trinkets. I hope to have the blood pack done this coming week (two are near completion), and maybe some day I'll get some Ravagers to go with them.

I should have an odd assortment to show off next week as well...

So this guy jumped to the front of the line.

He's from Diehard Miniatures in Spain. Guy does all sorts of interesting Oldhammer style sculpts. He was sitting in the garage, I needed to prime some other figures, and he ended up getting finished first.
Very classic feel to him. I feel like I did a decent job.

Still plugging away at those stupid Tharn Blood Pack. They're just so dang busy!

Got the leader done at least. I'm trying to use him as a guideline for the rest of the crew. Problem is the details on their faces are really soft and there's not a lot of good closeup photos of painted models out there.

Finished a Crypt Flayer/ Vargheist I had laying around. At least he looks presentable for tabletop usage.

Some ghouls to go with him.

Started another house or clan or whatever they're called for the Flesh Eater Courts, going for a Blank from SF2 vibe with them, with the green skin and orange hair.

Something totally not my usual- Space Marine Scouts! These came with Shadow War Armageddon. Built them when I got it and never bothered to use them. Maybe I will now. I've painted a few of the orcs that were included with that as well.

With the snipers right behind them. I even tried to do a quick and simple camo pattern, which seems pointless given the blue armor and beige under clothes, but whatever...

I guess I should probably get some Ultramarine decals at some future point to slap on all these guys, since they look like Ultramarines. Their armor is a bit to bright and blue to be proper Smurfs though.

Stuck at home today while we got a patio finally installed, so what better to do than paint and listen to music all day?

So this lady's been a bit of a project of mine this last week. I've yet to see a finished version of her to copy, so I had to stare at the artwork and try and do my best.

This is the Daimyo from the Sun Clan in Rising Sun. She was in the Dynasty Invasion expansion, which were the Chinese and Korean clans. I really just wanted her, and thankfully found and eBay seller who got me the whole clan for a very reasonable price.

I think her clothes turned out decent. I still love the sculpt. I'll try and do one of each of the other sculpts. I'm not sure about her face. I can't tell if she should be paler or not.

One of the newer Bones releases. Not sure about the dino head. Needs something, but I don't know what. Monkey is alright. He's big too.

A random Goritsi from Wrath of Kings. Picture sucks, I think I did a better job than it looks.

Batboy and a random Gunslinger from Knuckleduster's line. Seems inspired by Eastwood. I fethed up that stupid sarape and don't know what to do with it. Repaint it most likely... but how?

An over saturated shot of Khador's Great Bears of Gallowswood. I forget who is who...

Except I know the bald guy is Yarovich. He's hanging out with his buddy Kovnik Andrei Malakov. This is the earlier non- Kickstarter version of Malakov- he's a full blown warcaster in a wannabe commissar styled uniform these days.

stupid tharn are finally done!

My dad found these while they were cleaning out shelves to get ready for new carpeting. I think I painted these maybe 92 or 93. I think I did them for my brother in Japan, who is to cool to ever admit enjoying 40k stuff.

Front guy with the big boots is a RAFM sculpt according to Barzam. I have no idea what's up with the power glove guy in the back. What's he doing with his hand?

I have a strong feeling I never finished these. I could never match the color GW used for Blood Angels. I mostly used my dad's Tester's enamels back in those days. Ahh... sometimes I get nostalgic for the 90s.

A few more random figures I've got wrapped up.

This week was a bit of an undead kick, painting up a couple of the new Nighthaunt kits.

Crawlocke the Jailor, who despite having a unique name, doesn't actually seem to have any special rules- the instructions and website just have the same Spirit Torment stats. Odd. Thought he'd get some more unique rules.

I tried playing around with that new Hexwraith Flame. I wasn't super impressed with how he turned out, but he was my first victim to it. Other figures I've been happier with. Going to build some Hexwraiths and really go to town on them.

Crawlocke's Chainghast cronies who hang out with him. I love that they can hurl those flails as a ranged attack.

A bit shiny currently from putting too much Agrax and not shaking it up thoroughly is Kurdoss Valentian, the Craven King. Boy can I not wait to put him on the table! A unique looking model and he's a tough, cranky, mean SOB in battle.

His female counterpart is going to be along shortly after I get all my Skitarii out of the way...

To combat all this undead nonsense-

The Stormcast Lord- Exorcist, who also is a pretty mean SOB with his big honkin' staff and purifying blast spell. The paladin there I just finished as he has sat incomplete for at least half a year, if not more.

The little ghost is a Chainrasp from the Soul Wars starter. Tried painting one up before I commit to the big pile of them sitting next to me.

Hammerhall Quest's Black Ark Fleetmaster, who I refuse to put on a square base since I like his scenic square. Now I just need to paint the High Elf hero and I should have just about everything for Quest finished painting! Maybe we'll even try playing it...
That's also the last of my Crypt Horror/ Flayer guys laying around! Just the zombie dragon and I'll have finished off an entire start collecting box!

A washed out image of a Death Dancer from Raging Heroes. I was really irritated they didn't unlock the matron for these ladies during the campaign. These were my favorite RH figures from TGG2. She turned out alright, but I have no idea what I"ll use her for. Maybe a daemon?

Currently in the process of trying to finish up a 10 man squad of Metalica Skitarii. Progress is slow and steady if I can keep myself from starting other figures in the meantime...

So my attempt at putting together a Skitarii Kill Team for... Kill Team... is complete for the moment.

First up is my sole Sicarian Rust Stalker Princep. I salvaged him out of a bargain bin at a store that went out of business. He was missing most of his limbs, so he's actually been cobbled together out of a bunch of other parts. He may have ended up with a bit too many limbs, but that seems typical of both my own preferences as well as the Mechanicus themselves.

This Infiltrator Princep was recovered at the same time as the Rust Stalker, but actually had all his limbs, just bent and broken. I tried to fix him up as best I could.

Funny enough, he's got the cog pattern on his cloak but the glare made it disappear.

Alpha Rangers, or leaders for Kill Team...

Some Rangers running for cover...

Jezzail and some Rangers ready to fire...

As well as the special weapons.

I had a nasty time with those cog patterns. Finally found a brush that was cooperative, but in the end I got them all done. My White Mages are complete!

At least until I get more Sicarians finished, along with the Vanguard, and boy, after that, it's time to take the leftovers bit to a hobby knife and start chopping things up!

Your White Mages turned out good. I've found that the cog teeth aren't actually that hard to do. Just paint a thick, chunky line, then use the coat's base color to make the teeth by painting in the space between them. It's really just a matter of trying to keep even spacing between the cog teeth.

Heh... I actually cheated and use a super off- grey. It's not even white, but looks it! Heck of a lot easier to paint and does't require as many coats.

I'll try painting in the spaces next time. Got a Magos and some more Sicarians that I started working on this afternoon. Plus I'll eventually get around to doing the Vanguard.

No airbrush, just multiple thin coats of ghost grey.

Which have continued to see service this week, getting a few more Kill Team members ready.

First there's this cobbled together Blade Magos, who I guess decided he could one-up the Hive Mind and try fighting like a Hive Tyrant himself. A shame I can't get him photographed from a decent angle, I thought he turned out nice.

He still has a bit of work to do on him, just like his regular Magos buddy.

On the other hand, my Rust Stalkers are finished for KT-

Along with a pair of Infiltrators, neither of which are using codex approved load- outs.

Think I've got enough AdMech stuff to play now! Unless Electro- priests get rules soon, then I'll finally have to bust that box open...

This guy has been sitting unfinished since he came out..

Constantin Valdor is finally finished! Now whether I bother doing his big super diorama base is a totally different story...

A few random Bones dwarfs that got finished. I love how the one is pointing, and the other is trying to console him or calm him down.

More random Bones. Happy with the Dwarf engineer/ ranger guy. That bartender had super shallow facial features.

More random Bones figures continue to seep into the paint que.

I want to say this guy was a Revenant or something, so I tried painting him up ghoulish. His body details were super mushy. I honestly can't tell where one piece of clothing or armor ends and another starts. We're going to assume I painted it in the correct spots. Oh well, another one down!

Another Reaper figure, although this dude's a metal one. Who doesn't want a Gorilla Gunslinger? I thought he came out decent. Perhaps I should fix his finger nails. Nah...

3 random Marine heroes in various stages of completeness. Librarian is probably the farthest along but they all have a lot of work to be done still. Probably they'll be finished before I go back to work. Fancy capped cap and the lib came from that set with the plastic chaplain included but I haven't started him yet. I was let down with no chaplain/ jump packs for Kill Team, so a lot of my zealous close combatants have been sidelined for now.

My Lord Executioner! I'm quite happy with how he turned out. I lost his original head though. Ended up using the head from that limited Primaris Captain up above. Required a bit of trimming and cutting, but it looks pretty decent.

Not sure what color his unit designation should be on his shoulder. It looks like the assault arrows. Maybe in white? Still need to write something on all his scroll work...

Nooooooooo!

Today is the first day back to work, and back to school for all the munchkins.

Getting my room prepped and materials all good to go has not left much time for painting. MUCH.

There's always going to be something getting finished up!

Like this fat little dwarf mage on a pony!

A Sicarian Ruststalker Princep I had extra parts for. He also has an extra arm, because why not? You can never have enough blades.

My first batch of Oathmark Goblins. These guys are much more Tolkein- esque than the usual goblin fare. I'm not sure how I feel about that exactly. I don't really have any goblins, and wanted some for Sellswords and Spellslingers.

I ended up basing them on the included squares as they're easier to put into a horde, which Sellswords often has crappy grunts do.

The kit itself isn't that bad. A fair amount of variety, and they look like they'll work with a lot of Northstar's other plastics.

Here's a plastic Frostgrave soldier for size comparison. While they're appropriately diminutive compared to a human (as they should be), I haven't tried kitbashing them together yet.

However, most of my time over the last week or so has been getting this guy done-

My undead elites continue to grow their ranks with the Mortarch of the Night, Mannfred Von Carstein. Having built and painted him has almost sworn me off of doing the other two Mortarchs on their flying bone doggies.

I do have another Mortarch kit, but not sure who to build- Arkhan or Neferata.

Mannfred hoiwever will soon be joined by Lady Olynder, the Mortarch of Grief, as I've gotten back to working on her since she was released.

Those Oathmark goblins all look very nice. I think I like the beefier builds on them to the pseudo SD proportions goblins usually have.

I'll bet you enjoyed painting Mannfried's steed. Looks like a pain in the butt to me.

Also, you have at least three Space Marine Captains now. What are you going to do with all of them?

Mannfred Mann is impressive. Love the scythe-glaive and the skulls especially.

Those Skulls on Mannfred weren't too bad. I cheated- primed the whole thing white in large chunks of pieces, went over the skulls with some washes, then actually painted in the doggy parts before gluing it together.

Time for another impractically balanced figure!

Lady Olynder, the Mortarch of Grief! I love the concept, love the design of her, but man do I not like how tiny her contact point is to the base. I also don't care for her attendant spirits, who did NOT want to glue on to her cloak correctly. It's a miracle they're even attached.

I did a very basic and plain paint job on her. I mean, she's supposed to be mainly sheet white as it is... Also finished a few chainrasps that are hanging around her there.

Otherwise, I wrapped up a few outstanding eBay projects as well as some random marines.

The limited Primaris Captain. I'm happy with how he turned out. It took a lot of nerve to not want to paint his power fist crimson though....

A regular old boring captain. Someone had chopped off his sword and given him a sloppy hammer job. I tried to fix it up. I also need to go back and write something on his banners.

Some have accused me of having too many captains, to the point that I have more captains than I do marines for them to command.

This is so far from the truth it hurts. I have more chaplains than I do captains!

One of these days I'll photograph all my finished chaplains from various companies. I bought three more over the weekend too...

Kill Team rules be damned, at some point they're getting fielded as my Chaplain All Star team!

School stars, painting stops... at least I've got Labor Day weekend to look forward to!

A couple of new/ preview Malifaux figures from the Gen Con sale. Bultungin for the Neverborn and Neil Henry for the Arcanists. Neil there really reminds me of Kratos from God of War.

Would have been nice if I'd take a more in focus photo.

Finally got around to finish my Tech Priest Magos guy. Also some more random Chainrasps.

More goblin rabble from Oathmark. Guy with the hood is actually made out of almost all Frostgrave bits attached to a goblin body. Worked out alright.

Plan to use them soon enough in Sellswords and Spellslingers.

An elf mage dude from one of the Warhammer Quest games or expansions, not sure which. He's slowly making progress. Other guy is from GCT Studios' Bushido game, in their bad guy clan.

I like the samurai dude, but I'm hesitant to commit to giving him an elaborate tattoo like the studio did. Will keep working on him.

A WIP of an Aztec general from Paymaster Games' "Going Native" line. There's something really fun about painting crazy colorful warriors. I have a few more Paymaster figures I've got that I"m working on...

An oldie but a goodie! Barzam talked me into getting this guy, and it didn't take long for him to get painted.

A random Succubus from Mantic's Kings of War. Not 100% sold on my skin color choice. Maybe lighter like a dark elf? Kind of a greyish purple?

I got another Bushido guy that's armed even MORE ridiculously, don't worry! He'll be coming along shortly...

Most my free time lately has been spent trying to learn the ins and outs of making videos and how to use Youtube's interface for uploading them. I'm not... as technologically advanced as I used to be sadly.
She figures I end up talking to myself half the time about all this model nonsense since nobody else nearby me is listening, I might as well throw it out there and subject other people to it.

So yeah, that other Bushido dude is coming... soon.

In the meantime, here's a few pieces I finished up on a stressful labor day weekend due to whiny children.

Both figures are Aztecs from Paymaster Games "Going Native" game. Both sucked as their weapons and hands were completely broken in transit. I don't know if that was intentionally designed to be glued on by the owners, but it was a pain getting their weapons and hands attached.

The guy on the left is a Warrior Poet, whatever that is (he's got a drum on his back), and the Aztec General who showed up here before.

Besides their irritating arms, I'm quite happy with them. Trying to track down reference photos was a challenge unto itself. They came out quite unique looking though, I've got to say. I probably need to touch up the bracelet things on the warrior poet's legs. Not sure what color they should be. Gold?

Another figure from Paymaster again. This time, a Pacific Northwestern Chief. Anyone have a clue what tribe this would be considered? Or how to paint him? I'm just shooting blind on this guy and trying to come up with something that looks the part. I honestly had no clue how to paint him... I still like him.

Kinda thinking I might need to modify my order to them before the kickstarter stuff ships out...

Finished up the GW Loremaster, who I think came with Hammerhall, and a Wolsung Elf that Barzam got for me YEARS ago. Ain't nothing funny about a kung- fu elven sifu with mystical opium, I tell you what.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a cheap Bushido starter for the Ito Clan, which are the snakey reptile evil guys. I wasn't too keen on most of the sculpts except the twin bladed shirtless guy from last post.

This here's a Temple Bushi. Happy with his face. Not sure if I should continue the pattern on his hakama onto his jacket as well....

This figure I hate. She's broken at so many spots I'm amazed I saw her through to completion. I don't like the pose, I don't like how the pieces attach, I don't like how enormous her chest is, I don't like how she's precariously balanced on one foot with both the blade and its scabbard being separate pieces with tiny contact points... I can keep going.

She's done though, so there's that to be said.

Now this... THIS, THIS I like. No, not like, LOVE.

Bloody Bradigan Pitt. Gotten for dirt cheap off of eBay because nobody could bother to understand his majesty. So strong and amazing he broke off his shackles to enjoy being painted by myself.

I was so tempted to snip off his soap bar and replace it with a bottle of booze, but no, this fabulously flamboyant carnie- looking muscle man needs some soap.

You know what he is? Karnov. With a dash of Dr. Eggman/ Robotnik.

Nah, it's Karnov. Karnov for the tabletop. Fat mustachioed man in goggles with a fur coat ready to beat you senseless with a bar of soap in a strange fantastical world. All he needs now is a ladder and some pointy shoes.

Let it be said here and now- this guy is going to show up in every game I can find a reason for him to be there.
