Going to jump in with a few more tips, if you are going for 15 DG make sure you can break them up into 5 man squads if needed. Having to lose models to a leadership test sucks.
Malignant plaguecasters are very good if you aren’t going with a daemon prince. Mortal wounds are huge in 8th and smite is your friend unless they nerf it.
The myphetic drones work best in squads of 3 as they give nearby units -1 to be hit. Spawn are also good, the conversion potential is great too.
Plaguebearers big drawback is the army won’t be able to use stratagems unless they are in a separate detachment.

Ahem.

And, Gitsplitta is a troublemaker.
Nah, he gave me some good advice about making me DG pop a bit more.
So, final final final pics:

Dialed up the red on the knee, redid the eyes (again), redid the shoulder pad with red, and added the smurf hat.
Now, finally, he is done... I think!

Good job. Nice colour tones.

Depending on how deep you want to go with painting these...
I feel the armoured tabbard could do with a contrasting colour, it's a bit too similar to the rest of his armour.
Or it's a good site for a spot colour at least.

Also, the various dings in the armour may be good places for new-rust orange as a spot colour. You don't need to go as far as I did and drill them out and roughen the edges...

And maybe pick out the nurgle symbol of the shoulder pad like you have the fly on the knee.

Just thoughts... y'know, as I do...

edit: I see you have now done some of that anyway... carry on.

Briancj wrote:Unless you REALLY intend on playing 40K again, build the army you want to model.

Very true indeed amigo. Funnily enough, I'm actually looking at Starfall as a ruleset also because it allows for generic sci-fi battles. Also helps that I won a raffle on their FB for $15 to spend on a model of my choice

Cheers! It's a lot of fun. The 2nd Company is all about the rust (bout that rust, bout that rust, for nurgle... Ahem).

Yes so reading the codex, a lovely thing it is. The 2nd company is where all the rust is at, though the Putrid Choir are 3rd. So, it seems that my little group are taking on a life of their own, tentatively the Dark Choristers. It really works for me that originally being from Albia, DG are basically space Scots - cue the bagpipes! Given it's my adoptive home, it couldn't be more fitting Found 3 sets of terminator legs - no idea I still had any SM bits at all - which are the same size as DG because SCALE CREEP. Mmm, GS is my friend. I've got the bits left-over from the DG which include good torsos, arms etc so I reckon that I can build something suitable, anyway. It's always the legs you need, isn't it?

Still got lots of Batman stuff and Walking Dead to build and paint. Going to not get into a shelf of shame stressball, though. Just going to enjoy it. Besides, it does me good not to focus on just the one thing.

Played Star Wars Legion the other night. Interesting game, FFG so death-by-tokens is a given (and needless renaming action from X-Wing), inexplicable iconography and some completely gratuitous dice rolling/dice mechanics (I'm looking at you, Surge), but that notwithstanding it's undoubtedly fun and atmospheric and starwarsy.

The AT-ST was an objective for the purposes of this game, btw (it's 200 pts in game, same as Vader!). I'm pleased to say that the rebel scum were victorious (I play Imperial mostly for X-Wing, but it's nice to have a change), though Vader cut down Luke whilst the rest of his force was massacred - all in all it felt very fluffy.

I worry that it's going to go full FFG and mad paralysis of upgrade choice. Everything's on cards, and the layout/design is far from intuitive. The command token mechanic is interesting, it's semi random which unit you activate in turn (though it's IGOUGO). I'll not be picking it up, though that's not a reflection on the game per se; my opponent (long-time gaming buddy metropolis and I have decided that we're going to invest individually in new games we like but sufficient for two or three extra players - so he's going full into Legion, just as I'm going to pick up a few teams for Dreadball (which can be up to 6 player for maximum carnage). Seems like a good plan, on paper at least

Other random stuff. My dad, despite working many years in the computing industry, is notorious for odd moments of Luddism (anyone remember the XBox saga?!) The latest one:
"Is that Spotify still going?"
"Um... Yes."
"Oh. Because I was one of the original subscribers and get premium free for life. Is that good?"

Still, free Spotify now B).

On we go, mes amis,

Worked my way through the rest of the Codex, and I can't help it, I just really like the Putrid Choir's fluff, and actually my colour sceme still works really well for them. all good
I think a Tallyman and notapothecary are next. They're cool models, which is what matters and because I'm a glutton for punishment, I suspect a 3rd Dreadball team also (not-Gorn or not-Borg? Hmm...)

JoeRugby wrote:Love the DG dude, the rust looks amazing on them

Thanks! There will definitely be more rust to follow.

Well now.
I remember why I like 40k: it's the modelling. I have really, really missed kitbashing. Sitting down with an assortment of bits and seeing what emerges.

Hopefully, it's obvious that this is a chaos sorcerer in terminator armour with force axe. Obviously, more greebling and GS work to do. Not entirely sure what to do along the top of the armour.

Too much?

I'm doing an icon bearer too.

A random assortment of bits. Yes, those are grey knight legs

Obviously the back needs more work, especially turning the modern pack retro/heretical (heretrical?)

I also did work on the spot colours on the rest of the Choir.

Funny how green is actually a spot colour for these guys.

These guys are special they get 2 pics

And the other choristers

Next for this lot is sepia wash and then onto more powders.
C&c sought as ever!

I haven't forgotten about DC stuff. It's just good to have a change of pace
Speaking of which:

Weekend, and life, complicated by chicken pox in the tiny person, meaning my precious morning painting half hour is gone this week, but such is the nature of things. Better that she get it out of the way now. Did manage another game of Dreadball with the boys, adding in more rules. Excellent stuff, smashing game - loads of fun and really quick, but highly tactical too.

So, on the DG, only sepia wash done:

Now, to tackle them individually. Block painting won't work from here, they'll look too similar and I want varied, organic entropy.

And finished the builds on the other two.

Sorcerer has some pipes atop his carapace, gun changed to combi melta, and some tendrils. I've not added a Force-bit to the weapon, I'll aim to make that clear in the paintjob. Purple maybe, or the return of the obsidian effect I used to use on GKs, perhaps.

Icon bearer has had some filling and weathering at the front.

Lots more at the back, though.

Honestly I love this build, I'm so chuffed with him. He's really characterful and made of total junk. Bliss. Might have to do another one

So ordering supplies. Tallyman, Nauseous Rotbone (because I like the models), more necrotic flesh and more green stuff. Priorities

I've used any little bells I could find from the vestiges of my bits box, actually, for just that reason - but very few to be found, alas. I was considering, actually, mounting a Screaming Bell on the back of a Plaguecaster, because that's not at all silly. Heck, it could be firing the Censer...

Yorkright wrote: Really like how your DG are coming along! Great conversion work all around, now let’s see some paint on those one of a kind mini’s.

not till the other stuff's done Well, at least till primer turns up, anyway. I'm going to prime some walking dead stuff with it too, seems reasonable, eh? Along with Pox Walkers a-plenty.

On a side note, but still sticky and green:

Beginnings of a Lazarus Pit (from DC comics) for a mate. He wants one that looks recessed into the ground for a Nanda Parbat table he's building, so it's going to go on a little hillock.

And the slow process of filthing up the rest of the squad, starting with the Choirmaster:

Looks slightly overexposed, but you get the idea. I'm debating a druchi wash on the head cloths/cloak, for a bit of pop, and some verdigris on a couple his doodahs. I'm surprised to find I'm liking fairly plain, if mucky, bases, though the rear of his base still needs some attention. I think because they're such charcterful models that you don't want the distraction.

Gearing up for supply order from Firestormgames, as I'm going through washes at a rate of knots here.
