Are the cliff faces supposed to support a higher level of the table, or is it meant to just wall in the edges? Because if you could stack unused hexes under the higher levels it might also double as a storage space solution...

The cliffs will support higher levels, yes. I've only printed those couple of bits, but there are loads of cliff pieces in the KS pack. You're supposed to stack their hexes to raise the cliff top level and place flat pieces on top, but once I've got some more printed I may just make some taller bases to simplify table creation

The latest thing to come off the printer is a present for my wife (who doesn't read here so I'm safe to showcase WIPs)

Claire works in the local university's natural history museum and is applying to do a PhD in witchcraft and medicine... so you can sort of see where her interests lay

The intention is to fill in/smooth off the joint in the back of the skull and then gild the skull with some gold leaf I got for christmas a few years back and didn't know what to do with.

I'm kinda wishing I had taken the time to remove the embossed parts of the back plate though... I may have to print another one of those.

The skull is really cool though.

That's very cool indeed. I have a book of Medieval Surgery techniques in my classroom (kids love gross history) so when they let us back in I'll grab it for you

Oooooh that sounds just up Claire's street!

Arakasi just launched the latest League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Competition which is Dangerous Terrain

I have a couple of ideas of things to finish making/print for this to go with my current board. I've been playing around with making some train tracks to go onto the hex tiles as clearly a little country village needs a railway. What makes it dangerous? Sabateurs and the resulting crater when it is blown up

Finally got a bit more painting done this week. In a chance of pace, I decided to finally tackle one of the Underworlds crew. In an attempt to still stave off the Vampire Counts army I made the undead one the crew to paint

These are excellent, the underworlds skeletons are cracking sculpts and you really make them shine.

I spent yesterday playing with gold leaf, which was both fun... and slightly headache inducing due to all the glue!

Happy with the results though. There is a bit of touching up still needed, but I had to get most of it done for today as it was Claire's valentines present

Very lovely! Actual gold leaf? That'd like, what, £25 a book? True love there

No idea if it is actual gold leaf.. it's gold coloured leaf at the very least. It was a present from my dad who uses it by the truckload on some of his art projects

The painting challenge reached one of it's highlights yesterday. As I've mentioned before, one part of it has been going through a series of themes to end up at the Altar, which has a personal theme set by the guy running the challenge. Mine turned out to be to paint two Necronunda gangs.. quite a gauntlet there, but yesterday I managed to finish it and posted the results.

In the end I opted to do the two forces from Dark Uprising; Enforcers vs Corpse Grinders

Again, these are all experiments with contrast paints, a little bit of devlan miracle and dark brown for chipping. It took a few attempts to find a scheme I liked for the Enforcers

The Corpse Grinders were far easier to come up with a scheme. Most people seem to do them red or black... so I went for bone instead. The boss is a Ghamak stl with a gw head as I wanted something a bit different. He could do with being a bit bigger, but Khorne doesn't insist people are hulking slabs of muscle if they deliver on the blood...

The Initiates have been given Flagellant heads as I despise the standard heads in their little metal boxes. I think these heads show the decline into madness far better

To go with these I also did some more scatter terrain for the eventual boards

The comms unit from the enforcer pictures is also new, somehow I forgot to add it to the terrain shot so you can't see the side properly with it's gang tag

Next up I think I need to finish the Genestealer cult for Necromunda... I've been working on it for about a month but keep putting it aside purely because of skin tones

Wow....just......Wow.

It all looks good, the terrain is great, especially the Cador tag/symbol

All the colors for the corpse cult are wonderful without being too red

The visors and window slits on the shields are sweet.

I was wanting to make some Enforcers with a couple Ambots converted into ED-209 type enforcement droids to beef them up and act as blockers/building battering rams to cut open doors where there weren’t any to begin with, and these really inspire me more.

Thanks. The visors were actually really easy to do. That's just the Nazdreg Yellow contrast put on *very thickly* so that it goes really dark where it pools, but quite light at the edges. I did then mix a bit of nazdreg yellow into white and do some very thin highlights to give the pop at the edges. It's the same for the eagles on the jacket

The cawdor tag was from a transfer sheet FW released when Dark Uprising was released. It is full of gang tags in different colours as well as warning stripes and labels for the terrain. They will be getting used a lot when the boards start going together

I had similar ideas for my GS cult. They have an ambot made from one of the hunched over FW Vorax droids with mining drills instead of guns. I might use one of the others for the Enforcers

Man I love that skull tag on the crate.

They all look fantastic endtrans. Quite an eye-catching bunch of models you've been working on. Bravo!

Grats on getting both teams done, smart contrast use throughout (dig the green gun panels / launchers on the Enforcers in particular), and even smarter updates to the Grinders. The juve (??) heads are trash tier, using flagellants makes much more sense. Ghamak dude was a good call, tho I probably would have bumped him up 10% or so - not that dual-wielded dual chainsaw hands isn't imposing in its own right!

Yeah, the ghamak model certainly needs a boost in size. At some point I may reprint him as his hands are *tiny*. So much so that I almost cut them off so that it looked like he was so manic he'd replaced his hands with the chainblades.

On a different note, I think Bandcamp (and now Mixcloud!) just told me I needed to follow you Boss Salvage

I made the mistake of trying to batch paint 40 guard in one go... I'm about half way through blocking out the colours and really don't want to see them ever again *face/palm*. This is not a good way to build an army kids.

Remind me again why I restarted a 40k army? Especially one that is never actually going to see the light of day...

Man, this has been the ongoing quarantine struggle for me too. I finally tricked myself into rebasing / adding to my 15+ year old CSM instead of flirting with buying stuff for yet another 40k army - a game I haven't played in years outside of Kill Team, and an edition I still believe in but am starting to sour on as the meta churns on and the codex disparity grows

ANYWAY good luck with all the guard!

Yeah, I will be doing that going forward I think. The guard have had a tiny bit of progress, but they really are on the verge of feth it and boxing it all up to deal with later (or dispose of). This week has mostly been trying to clear out/sell things in the hobby room. Removing a few kickstarters from my shelves has given my paypal a nice boost in time for the new Warhammer Quest coming soon, as well as allowing some reorg of the floor/mess.

On the hobby side, I started to have a play with my entry for the Dangerous Terrain competition. I want to create a train line to go across my countryside board, with a little explosive bonus using one of the crater tiles from the Hexhog stls. I created a set of train tracks on Blender and have only managed to ever get it to print *once*, which has caused me a nightmare of spaghetti. The benefit of selling stuff was discovering that the train set that I thought I'd sold ages ago I still have... and there is enough straight track to go across the board, which is great as it means I also have a train that will fit it. Turns out there is also an MDF train station and platform *partytime*

This morning I cut up some track and started to have a bit of a play on some blank hexes that I designed/printed and adding some track to the crater

Turns out this really *is* dangerous terrain as I just turned my chair and knocked it all off the shelf, knocking off all of the filler *head/desk* so some repair work is required there
