After many years playing 40K I'm finally making the leap to fantasy. I'll be getting the Battle for Skull pass box set but also thinking of doing an Empire army. Not sure to buy the Empire army book now or wait a couple of months considering that Orcs/Goblins and Empire were the first two army books out with the last edition. Anyone heard if the Empire book will be coming out before the end of the year ?

Although I am not privy to any production schedules, it has been my experience that the first Army Books to be released are usually those for the armies included in the boxed set. In the next edition this will be Dwarfs and Goblins, so I would guess the Dwarfs and the Orc & Goblin books would be first.
This means the next book would probably be after the first of the year. Unless GW decides to release rules without having a whole new line of models to go with them (not likely).

IIRC Empire has been confirmed as a Christmas release, with army deal appearing just before christmas and the rest early next year.
Dwarf armybook will not be renewed for years, as the one released last year was written with 7th ed in mind.

I just hope they include the Steam Tank. I'm sick of everyone asking me, "Wait, is that thing legal?" I'd also like to see them give the mortar indirect fire. And for Sigmar's sake, do something about the Halberdiers...
Other than that, I can't think of anything that needs to be done with Empire. I'll be waiting to see what changes they do make.

I haven't heard a thing about Empire being out for Christmas. Orc and Goblin army book is in October, with most of the releases stretching into November. Next up is the Eldar Codex. That doesn't leave a lot of room to get Empire out. I haven't heard a thing about Empire from GW, or seen any hints about the book, or new models. Highly doubting it's out this year.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

And he would know... So no eldar until next year? That stinks. But at least it gives me plenty of time to retool my greenskins for V7 and the new army book.

Word has it they're removing pistols from being able to shoot in Close Combat, so I'm worried our Pistoliers will be t3h suck.

If that happened, then what would be the point of taking a pistol? A Captain spend 10 points buying a pistol or, for the same cost (I think) get a handgun. If a pistol just becomes an 8" handgun, no one would ever use them. I certainly hope this rumor about pistols is little more than wishful thinking on most people's parts. If it turned out to be true, there will certainly be a lot of angry Empire players, and they'll never sell another Pistolier model. Unless, of course, the fusillade rule allows them to fire in combat.

Re: pistols losing their CC shooting.
It seems true enough. It was commented on in July's WD (US) in the tactics section (although, in their usual sucky way, they claimed it wouldn't change Pistoliers at all and all Empire players will still be using them... sorry, I'm still bitter about the whole 40k non-4th edition won't invalidate any army list bs they gave us...).

It's too bad. Was so happy to finally have a use for those Thunderers with braces of pistols (I was using them as engineers).
But if I can't fire in combat, it looks like I'll have to buy some of those new warriors. Man, I hate the new Dwarf models.

Pity the poor outriders who have to promote a completly shoddy game.

Well, just take common sense and all accountability and throw them out the window!
Welcome to the GW hobby!

Eldar are next. There's no way we've gotten Eldar rumor and silhouettes like we have with O&G arriving first.

I would like to point out 2 things... And I am not trying to be snotty so please don't take it any negative way. 1) The common GW practice is to release alternating books with a smattering of LotR thrown in. The last codex out was Cities of Death for 40K, therefor the common thread would lead to a Warhammer Book being next. 2) GW is doing what they do best, rumour control. Eldar are the most sought after Codex because simply put they are one of the most popular non-marine armies ever. This leads me to the Sneak Peeks section http://uk.games-workshop.com/sneakpeeks/warhammer/defaultJosh

That, and a number of Codices have been done once or twice (or three times, if I understand the Chaos situation correctly) since the last time Codex: Eldar has been done. They're LONG overdue.
I believe the next release is WHFB 7, followed by the Eldar. Although, overlapping like they used to wouldn't be a bad idea...
