I've been thinking back on it, and this is a pretty good point. If the guy really was cheating or playing incorrectly or whatever, why did he get such high sports scores? I can assure you that if I came up against someone who was cheating, he would get a 0 on any soft scores I was allowed to assign at absolute minimum, and I would probably try to get him kicked out of the event. It's possible that this guy cheated while everyone else stood there and did nothing, but that seems quite dubious to me. Much of the stuff in that video looks pretty shady to me, but if he was really playing unfairly, why didn't anyone who was there do anything?

Simple. There has been so much outcry against soft scores in general for tournaments and accusations of "chipmunking" opponents that most players automatically default to giving their opponent the highest points totals for things like sportsmanship and painting, even if their opponent is not deserving of such. Also, most people are non-confrontational when it comes to things like that. Most players would rather play against TFG that be accused of being TFG.

If people don't like soft scores, the solution is to eliminate soft scores, not to use them incorrectly.

I seriously don't know how anyone could even defend this guy who was caught cheating on camera.

Making fun of the people who caught him doesn't make them wrong. Guy should, at the least, not get the invite to vegas.

I'm not defending this guy or making fun of the people who caught him, I'm saying that the story doesn't really seem to add up.

Cause that's what I said...
(notice I didn't even insult the guy?)

No, I said his prizes and such should be revoked for being caught cheating. (OMG just like all other competitive environments...)

And I said that you shouldn't defend people who are caught cheating red handed.

HOWEVER, THE BIG NEWS FROM THIS TOURNAMENT.

TAU GOT 5TH!!!
and you guys thought they weren't competitive.

GBF, your really the only one going on about this. I didn't even say he should be punished in anyway short of revoking his winnings for this one event.

I do not know what kind of player he is or anything. So I have no thoughts on any actual punishments for him. Notice I didn't say he should be banned from future events or anything of the sort. Just his prizes revoked. Name one other competition you get to keep your winnings if you get caught cheating after the fact.

Also, is the Tau players list out there anywhere? Would be cool to see what he ran. (hopefully lots of fireknives.)

The Tau player was me. I guess I could post the list up here if anyone really wants to see it. I personally feel I did fairly well. I had some really great games last weekend and look forward to going to some more tournaments in the area. I was just happy that I got to show off my army and get some great resonses on it. I just wish I could have painted it a little better. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. As far as this whole Nathaniel Williams issue, I have only ever played the guy once and it was at the final round of the Ard Boyz Regionals this past year. After watching the videos and seeing what I was suspecting, I am not pleased that he ended up with a ticket to Vegas in the place of someone like Zen Zhang who would be in second right now if it wasn't for Nathaniel and I think very deserving of a trip to Vegas. That is my opinion for what it is worth.

I think we should just have voting sessions for who we want to attend Vegas. It can be like a political election.

Actually J_Dearth is one very good player from the games I've been able to watch him play. He was the Dark Eldar player that got BONED 2 years ago in ard boys by the judges letting a daemon player deploy his HQ & troops in dawn of war. He won the 'ard Boys semi finals against the Nathaniel Williams (setting the stage for my sneaking in to 2nd place) last Summer using a brutal Dark Eldar army that inspired me to start my own Dark Eldar army.

J-Dearth- I'd love a copy of farsight the list as well!

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I like Farsight Tau and if I was going to play a Tau army, that is what I would field.

I saw the videos, and if I was playing against him I might not think anything was too wrong. It is one thing to see what he did after the fact and watching the video looking for it.

I would put it in the category of fudging the rules rather than cheating.

I am not entirely sure why you felt the need to say this. New users have something to contribute as well. You were once a new user yourself.

So....you appreciate their honesty, but still think its honestly warrented. Why should one ever come clean?

My army list is as follows:

HQ-1: Farsight and five bodyguards with plasma, 2x Fusion, 2x Missile Pods, and a cyclic Ion Blaster.
Six shield drones and 2 marker drones. One failsafe detonator, one guy with iridium armor and stimulant injectors.

Elite-1: 3 Crisis Suits: two twin linked flamers and one twin linked fusion blaster with target locks around and a multitracker on the leader.

Troop-1: 6 Fire Warriors with Shas'ui and a marker drone with a markerlight

Troop-2: 6 Fire Warriors with Shas'ui and a marker drone with a markerlight

Troop-3: 10 Fire Warriors with pulse carbines: Devilfish with sensor spines, fletchette dischargers.

Fast Attack-1: 7 Pathfinders with a devilfish and sensor spines and fletchette dischargers

Heavy Support-1: Sniper Drone Team

Heavy Support-2: Sky Ray Missile Defense Gunship with disruption pods, targetting array, and smart missiles

Heavy Support-3: 2 Broadsides with a shield drone and a target lock and advanced stabilization systems.

This is pretty much the list in a nutshell. If there are any other questions or if I forgot something I will amend this post accordingly, but I think it is all there. Thanks again for the interest in the list.

My first game was against a vanilla assaulty marine army, my second game was against a white scars army, my third game was against a veteran based guard army, fourth game was against night lords (I know two bike armies in one tournament and I was Tau!) and my last game was against a vanilla gun line marine army. Those are my games in a nut shell, I had three wins and two draws. My goal for the tournament was two wins and three draws so I bested my goal and had a fun time doing it.

How is describing a guy that we have FOOTAGE OF ACTUALLY CHEATING as a "cheat," in any way a character assassination?

whidbey

GBF, where you at either these events? the hardboyz in 2008 or conquest?
I was at both.
the winner of hardboyz took advantage of a judge.
would you allow what happened at hardboyz to occur against you?

the conquest player and hardboyz players are similar in the fact that they stretch the rules to match their needs.
Nath is a shady player. I have played him and he whines and moans and cheats. I would give my entire 40k collection away if you told me I had to play him weekly.

Players like him need to be forced out of the hobby.

You're talking about last years conquest? Because I saw his fully painted army that won for best appearance. And there are even some small pictures of his army in white dwarf.
