I can't speak to low point levels, as my Fantasy experience is only at 2k+ (and my gut tells me that 2500 will be more standard in the future).

However, I do feel (thus far) that Lore of Life is the strongest Lore in the book and seems to compliment Wood Elves nicely. That said, it requires a Lvl. 4 Singer to get for us...

Still, a Lvl 2 and a Branchwraith/Cluster should make for a pretty good magic defense in lower games (I would think...)

Does this mean WE are awful at lower points levels where it's impractical to take a L4 caster? Or should we just spend the points regardless of how it affects the rest of the army?

another cool thing to consider with terrain is the rules for forests. WE players notice that everyone got their forest walker (or whatever it was called) rule and no longer take penalties for moving through forest as infantry.

What a lot of people DONT notice is that blocks of infantry inside a forest combat are never steadfast, furthermore, skirmishers that are in a forest combat are stubborn.

Only problem is NO one, and I mean NO one goes into a Forest if you are playing as Wood Elves.

Ever, it doesn't happen. Why? Because that's the part where we win and they lose, and 9 times of 10. They can either out magic us, or out shoot us so yall have to go to them.

Terrain is vitally important to us. All the tables at my local GW have at least 4 small woods on them (although less scrupulous players will try to shift them if they know they are playing WE) plus the one I can put on. This makes tree singing much more useful as my opponent generally wants to stop my Life magic, and let's me move terrain around pretty much at will, often forcing him into moving through the woods or spend 2 turns moving around them
