Major SOB is not a judge or spokesperson for the DaBoyz GT event.

We are running Comp for the event. I think everyone coming is because we run a great event. I do know there a large % of people that are coming that would rather not play in a comp event, but they are still coming. There are also people coming just because we have Comp.

Will we be having Composition next year? Maybe? After every year we evaluate what went good and what can we improve. There is always room for improvement.

I think the 100 people are just a trend that I believe our culture is moving towards. I am very happy we have a 100 people coming. You saw several 40K tournaments grow a lot this year. I have never been to the WAR games Con or Nova Open but I plan on going next year. I expect both of these tournaments to be twice the size as ours.

@Reecius I hope we see you at Adepticon Next year. Maybe we can get a game in.

For sure! Our team won overall but Platuan4th and I played like total idiots and got stomped on our half of the table. You guys were gracious winners though. I would love to get a game in.

I am sure people come to your event because they have fun, which is what it's all about. We have the comp heaviest large tournament in the country here in SoCal and all of the competitive guys go every year because it is a well run, fun event where we get to see our buddies and play 40K. In the end, we all go to have fun, and it sounds like that is what your event will be.

Well it's not my brand of vodka, but if 100 people want to pay the $ to attend then great for them. I just hope no participants complain about soft-scores after the event.

Unfortunately, that's inevitable - whoever wins / does well will get knocked along w/ the comp for getting too light a treatment in the comp scoring department, and vice versa for those who do poorly.

That such a post-event commentary is inevitable, however, is more a reflection of the nature of many wargamers ... not a reflection on the relative quality, competency and appropriateness of the comp system in use / comp systems in general.

By no means am I an internet celeb, but I wouldn't mind showing up in one of your batreps, Mafty.

Either way, there will be a bunch of us setting up Friday and looking for a game. I believe the BoLS contributors arrive Friday afternoon also and hopefully some of the ETC guys will be around. You should be able to get a death match np. Look forward to meeting you there.

I am getting in way too late to play a Death Match - I just want some booze .

The event looks well run - and I plan to have a good time - win or lose. I just hope to meet a ton of new people and have some fun with my weird Space Goats army .

It was a lot of fun. I had 5 fun games and got owned in at least 3 of em. The Comp scoring was a little bad but I did not come to win overall anyway. Jay and the guys ran a great event, were well prepared, had great terrain, and did a great job judging. It is an event I would recommend in the future and will sign up as soon as they post the event for next year.

From Daboyz site:
Jay said he would be posting the results this week..

For a first GT I had a great time, short of my 3rd game where my opponent just up and quit on me, saying I wasn't fun to play or something, I had a blast. I can't believe they posted pics of my army, it makes one really happy in the pants to see your toy soldiers on the interwebs.

I had a blast at this as well, had 5 great games. The photo coverage is awesome I think there's pictures of just about every army in there.

Big thanks to Jay, Smitty, and Ben and all the other's that ran the event.

becasue they didn't have an objective rubric for which to grade comp and instead had a council with "feelings"

Noth that its bad.... it just highlights the "I don't know why" feeling many people get from this style.

Looks like it was a lot of fun... and I'll be honest... I'd like to know what ideas you're getting from that data... Looks like it took you a long time to put together

Doesn't take long. Type the numbers into an ANOVA program, or similar number cruncher, and hit 'GO'.

If we had data from the same people playing the same games 10 times, we'd have a lot better analysis. But it's always fun to put numbers into something and crunch them.

I found out the hard way that without Eldrad I gained 20 comp points, but if I had him I win game #4 and get 48 more battle points.
