To mark the start of a new page let's bombard it with some WIPs
I highlighted the servo skull not too long ago and it is closer to being done..
Up next, the warning sign... like the servo skull, some highlighting has been done but not quite finished yet..
Got a couple of vehicles inbound now; a SM Predator and an IG Chimera.
The Predator is a part of my slowly growing Marines Errant force. I am undecided on the turret though, don't know whether to keep it black, paint it gold or split it like the hull
The Chimera is still getting it's base colors down, nothing much else to add
The Ogryn bodyguard for the Vessorine commander finally got his arms... also primer, base coat, and washes on those arms
...some tattoos are planned, but still tossing up designs
Lastly, a new addition to the Vessorine family, a Jokaero
These un-primed shots were taken a while ago but never posted in this blog...
..likewise the primed shots were taken a while ago but never posted in this blog...
He is all ready for dry-brushing and more washes... also some eyes, I think
Tag... you're it
That's it for tonight, I am off to bed

Been awhile since I last uploaded or posted anything... jeebus, been awhile since I did anything related to my hobby
Picked up a terminator squad and will be adding this to the Marines Errant army that is taking shape again...
All the Terminators will need some shaving to get some flash off before priming, also some of the glue residue
Terminator Sgt
Terminator with chain-fist
Terminator with assault-cannon
Terminator with cyclone-launcher
Terminator walking
Group shot
Thanks for looking, more to come in the next coming days

Have been busy doing some more building; a number of different minis
Today I picked up the Forgeworld Legion Praetor mini; fantastic mini to work with..
Here is what was included in the box;
After snipping off the sprue(s), there were not any problems with bent pieces or bubbles (could be because it was FW and not GW resin... );
The sprue(s) are definitely being added to the bits box; they look like stands for SM relics or data terminal bases...
Here is the Praetor built (the left leg sits off the base a little, but some cork will fill up the gap...);
I have no idea what Legion I will paint this chap, just loved the mini
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
Next up some Chaos Space Marines;
Abaddon had his head and right arm attached (little washed out, sorry about that!!)
Typhus has been built and ready for priming (front & back)
Aspiring Champion built and ready to be primed (front & back)
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
New addition to the Deathwatch; a missile launcher trooper
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
Next up, some more members of my Imperial Taskforce;
Firstly, a bodyguard for my Inquisitor (it's head is being worked on...doesn't really come out well in the photo )
Secondly, a Vindicare Assassin to go with the Eversor
Third and final for the task force, a Master of Ordinance
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
Finally some additions to my Marines Errant force
Terminator Librarian has been built, primed, washed and ready for it's base coat!!
SM Assault Captain; built and ready for priming
SM Assault Chaplain; built and ready for priming
SM Assault Marines (4); built and ready for priming (2 were already primed & washed awhile ago but sat without arms until recently)
That's it for today, I've got some priming and painting to do so see you next year

Howdy... I thought of no better way to get back into the hobby then with a fun kit
I was bumming around Barnes & Noble and this jumped into my hands, twas pretty surprised to see it in there. Maybe I just don't get out much these days...
Bandai AT-AT Box cover art (I will provide some better pictures of the completed shots on the side of the box, they are pretty sweet )
Open the box to reveal the following;
Instruction booklet is pretty nice, a mixture of color and black/white print;
Finished the head already, it wasn't too bad. I didn't really have to use that much glue, there are alot of articulated pieces so you have to be careful when gluing pieces.
Example of the leg sprue, like the rest of the kit there is a high level of detail (and alot of pieces)
Just a small sample of leg construction and the articulation so far...
Just a small post tonight. Slowly getting my model fingers back, good night

Legs are all done (well, sort of... 3/4 are done and 1 is in triage currently )
Instructions for leg construction, easy to follow but easy to muff up if not paying attention
(you can build the entire kit without glue, that's pretty cool especially as I recall some other kits which tout "no glue needed" end up looking like gak).
Complete leg; quite detailed and very articulated (as shown in the following images), surprisingly quite sturdy also even without a large amount of glue.
Leg articulation example #1;
Leg articulation example #2;
A group shot of the differently positioned legs (this will help a great deal when positioning for final pose on it's Hoth base)
How the legs will be positioned underneath the chassis;
The inside of the leg; showing a support bar (all legs have this feature) which is made from a different type of plastic, not as hard as main plastic used in the kit.
Close-up of the foot, showing tow detail and articulation and the support bar mentioned above;
Again showing tow detail;
*************************
* ✙ Triage Center ✙ *
*************************
One draw back of kits that don't require glue is that a firm press of parts during dry-fitting is all that's needed to cause problems.
Before catching myself, I had snapped the lower leg together and then realized the foot was the wrong way around (the support bar/strut mentioned above wasn't lined up)
There was too much plastic to cut horizontally through the foot so I decided to cut where there is least plastic.
Close-up detail #1; cutting caused some displacement of the plastic but not too bad
Close-up detail #2; the foot got it easy, nothing that a little filing won't clean up
Painting this kit will be interesting because of the moving parts... I mentioned earlier I may just use the articulation as a way to pose on it's base, then base-coat the bastard.
Next up will be the chassis and leg attachment.
Thanks for looking, take care

OK, the AT-AT is out of triage and nicely recovered
Used a paperclip to pin the foot back into place and now the required holes are lined up for the strut to be positioned.
Here is the test fit of the paperclip; making sure I could line up the holes...
Another angle of the test fit; the paperclip can just be seen going through to the other side of the foot;
Pinned foot is looking good (chassis has been completed and the legs attached), don't ask why I pinned the foot AFTER I attached the legs to the body
Paperclip snipped and filed down, finally glued into place;
Another angle of the completed pinning, still showing the paperclip going through to the other side of the foot;
There are a number of small pieces to be added (like the cheek lasers) then she is ready for priming.
I was worried about how to paint this kit but damn... I've got nothing to worry about as there are a number of good videos on YouTube which build first, then paint, weather and base
Oh, just in case anyone is interested in non GW dioramas, please check this guy out... his naval-themed dioramas are insane.

Time for a little update
It's been a few months but mainly WIPs of the following;
- SM Terminator squad
- SM Assault squad
- Chaos
- Star Wars
- Flames Of War
SM Terminator Squad (Marines Errant) update;
Finally got around to priming these guys (they are displayed at the beginning of this page... 2016).
Some flash, which I missed, is visible but now debating whether or not to remove
SM Assault Squad (Marines Errant) update;
Primed the final 3 assaulters (and the arms of one of the others), now will do the usual and wash with some dark stuff (pretty much the norm for anything that I prime white)
Chaos update;
Typhus got primed and is ready for base coats, nothing really planned for him apart from making it disgusting
- his backside
OK... time for some words of warning - DO NOT PRIME IN HUMID CONDITIONS (mind you this was done a few weeks ago when it was a alot warmer/humid in upstate SC)
1). Aspiring Champion was almost ruined... I do believe I can repair this, maybe some very light rubbing (see if the Jokaero can lend his finger...)
2). Ordinance Officer fared much better than the champion but still looks like gak especially around the belt and tunic
Star Wars update;
Primed the AT-AT in black (peoples are primed white while vehicles are all primed black - don't ask me, I'm just weird).
All ready for it's base coat which will be grey. Twas pricing out an airbrush, but mate... I cannot justify the cost for airbrush and compressor, well I can but I need to justify it to someone else LOL
Here's a close-up of the front, like an idiot I didn't cover the front, red windscreen and has been covered up
Flames Of War update;
Started a Flames of War army, it looks like this will be finished in 2029 but that's cool.
On my way to collecting an early war Australian contingent based in North Africa; first rifle platoon (3 squads + HQ, mortar, boys rifle team)
Damlier Dingo Scout Cars
(LOL... well, after some research it wasn't these used by the Australians; the Dingo Scout was used not the Damlier Dingo... oh well, they are cool looking anyway)
Matilda I
(again... I failed big time; these were not used by the Australians but by the British in Europe)
Matilda II (or Matilda Senior)
That's it for tonight, take it sleazy
Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive le sacre mercenaire..

Little update this evening, getting ready to pick up a paint brush but first the usual ritual of washing the minis to expose the details...
(next time I won't take 2 years to spray or anything, who knew white isn't white anymore )
Typhus up first; pretty happy with the wash (Corax White prime with Nuln Oil wash). The details are nice, plenty ideas are coming to mind...
SM Terminator Squad up next; again, pretty happy with the wash (5 - Coraz White prime with Nuln Oil wash & 1 - old Citadel White prime with Nuln Oil wash).
In case anyone has also noticed (or I am TOTALLY late to the party), but Corax White is a little grey... isn't it?!?
SM Assault Chaplain rounding up the rear. Same wash as the others (Corax White prime with Nuln Oil wash) and same result as the others.
Vanguard Assault Squad
That's it for tonight, got some painting to do and a little Flames of War update is coming soon!
Take it easy people!

Crush your Enemies,

Along with my Australian force, I am slowly building a Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) force/patrol.
Yes, yes, I know I am definitely late to this party... Flames of War did have a boxed set/game called "Sting of the Scorpion" that was a LRDG raiding force; which included trucks, jeeps, dismounted infantry, also terrain (I think).
However, I have no interest in bidding on any sets that may exist on the interwebs... that's cool, because it will allow me to slowly build this out
This book is partly the reason for this escapade; history surrounding the unit, including commanders, tactics, logistics, etc...
So let's start with a minor haul; 2 Willys jeeps, 2 Chevy trucks (1 not shown), also an Australian Company HQ
Washing the resin pieces; sometimes it is not necessary but other times it does feel sticky or tacky to touch, so a good bath is in order
The LRDG Chevy truck(s). The detailing is awesome considering the size of these minis, I like that I don't have to glue on any wheels (the amount of times I have glued my fingers together).
The drivers are in, now I am just planning the passengers.
LRDG/SAS Willys Jeeps. Again, the detailing is ridiculous
Drivers and passengers in, just need the guns... maybe put these on bases, but still deciding...
Time to do some painting, the next update will be the Marines Errant Dreadnought.
Thanks for looking

Following the previous post, just some WIPs of the Marines Errant Dreadnought (I believe originally primed black in 2014 )
Spoiler:
It had been a very long time since I put paint on the Dreadnought, here's a free tip... don't leave gak half-painted for years, some branded paint colors won't exist.
I originally used Ultramarine Blue and Space Wolves Grey but this filth isn't made anymore. Why jeebus, do I have to be so lazy
I was using the grey as a base color for a white highlight, now using a very light grey (yes, I know the greave is white and not light grey but twas painted before I selected a base for the white.. )
Now starting to add the first highlights to the base colors, primary dry-brushing has been completed so little details will now be picked out... washes will still occur to soften out some highlights
Continuing with the Marines Errant theme
I finally put some paint on the SM Predator turret as well; the main Rhino chasis was already primed black and partially base-coated a few years ago (2014??) but I never got around to finishing it.
Spoiler:
Same problem as the Dreadnought though... 5 years later the colors don't match but gak happens. Originally, I didn't know what to do with the turret; leave it black, paint it gold or split colors? It is obvious what was selected and I am happy with results. The cabling received it's base coat of yellow for a chevron pattern, so now I will continue to build up the yellow.
Primary dry-brushing has been completed, now going to add washes and highlights. The red lenses will also receive some loving..
That's it for now, but I will continue with more Marines Errant WIPs in the next post!
Later peeps

@Sageheart; Thanks for looking! It's nice to be posting with some semblance of regularity now. I actually primed and washed the 3 remaining Jannissaries (last November) so now the entire squad has some paint!! I will include a small update towards the end of this post.
@lGtR=; Thanks for looking, definitely some more Marines Errant WIP in this post! I am sorry to say, no paint progress on Flames of War minis but definitely soon.
This post continues from the previous; Marines Errant theme, now with WIP Terminator squad - click on image, tis zoomable
All the Terminators are at the same stage; had their main blue base coat added. Nice paint cover, although thanks to zoom and the iPhone I can see that touch-ups are needed.
The primary dry-brushing has been completed, dark red base coat for wax seals and eye lens has been applied now time for the light grey base coat to be added.
- head base coat applied, hopefully I can get to the teeth...
- biggest issue... didn't drill out the barrel(s)
- will try a chevron (warning stripes) on the chain fist, the black and yellow should pop-out nicely
- will try a chevron (warning stripes) on the flat faces of the missile launcher, again, the black and yellow should pop-out really nice
- nothing special will be performed.. maybe a personalized storm bolter, like black & white squares but if I do that for one then why not the others
This Company Champion was built and photographed a few(5?) years back. Since that time, armor base coat has been applied but will require touch-ups along with the application of the robe base coat.
Spoiler:
- the shield was selected because it kind of resembles the Co. Champion (without the wings...)
As mentioned previously, here are the 3 updated Vessorines; Heavy Bolter gunner and his spotter, and a trooper (with a missing gun barrel) - click on image, tis zoomable
Heavy Bolter gunner; set-up behind some cover, just waiting, watching, observing, wishing he could breathe smoke
Plenty of ammo and different kinds too... we've got good ammo, bad ammo, clean ammo, dirty ammo, smelly ammo
Heavy Bolter spotter; just glassing some distant targets...
Misc. trooper, nothing much really going on here, just a missing gun barrel (actually there are 3 missing in total, so he is not alone)
To finish up, a little WIP of Cypher... LOL, this was the first mini I put in the Chaos/Renegades Image Gallery of mine
Spoiler:
Put some paint on him awhile ago but never captured the WIP so here he is; the plans are to add arms and update the hand guns (bolt & plasma pistol). Oh... I love those Fallen back-packs
That is all I got for now, take it sleazy peeps!

OUt of interest, do you know Anvil industries, they have a set multiple sets of fairly similar head types....if you felt like adding another 20 or so models.
@NotVaughn; Thank you very much, you are awesome and Anvil is awesome Although I didn't get any of the bionic heads, I ordered some other styles of head (and gear) to bring about some different types of janissary.
Here is a small update of the Marines Errant Dreadnought.
Still WIP but now starting to come to life.. the base coat for the white is finished (currently a very light grey). The sarcophagus has been high-lighted, wires/cables have been colored, and the base has been cleaned up. The next step is to complete the base coast for the blue, match it to the Terminators that are being worked on..
I have no idea what to put on the armor panels, in terms of insignia, but something will pop up
To finish up with, here are some shots of a combat servitor I've been working on for the last few years. The weapon was finally added a few months ago but I never uploaded any pics... The arms and legs are Necron (I have a feth-load of them considering I only used the heads for masks ), the body is an IG torso, and bolter is from the DA upgrade sprue(s). It's inspiration is displayed underneath... (from the movie Elysium)
For anyone that's interested, included in the spoiler are some pics from a book about the concept art for the movie Elysium; in particular a section on the robots (where the above pic was taken from)
Spoiler:
That's it for now, thanks for looking and enjoy your easter eggs you heathens!

Since the last post, the Dreadnought had it's blue base coat re-applied and now the next step is to continue high-lighting with some washes (to build shadows in the blue - similar to the white section).
After the washing, high-lighting the skull by the left foot and rest of base to completion.
The Mechanicus symbol is calling me though... "paint me first"
Next up the Librarian; I completed the base colors on the armor (except belt buckle.. ), but robes and the scrolls/purity seals were completed too.
The gun casing will probably be a green & white chequered pattern with the embossed pieces being gold & bone
The staff will be bronze and the cables green (I am tempted to do a chevron but I need to complete the Predator cables first before doing that again...)
I don't know how to paint the book (a real book or painted like it was sculptured out of bone...maybe marble ) but definitely on a white shoulder pad.
Lastly an Assault Marine; base colors for the armor have been completed and also the purity seals/scrolls.
The helmet and certain embossed pieces are based gold, with a plan to paint the wreaths green.
The one pouch (ammo for the plasma pistol perhaps..) will be a brown color, similar to what I've done in the past.
The winged skull will be a bone color... and I am tempted to paint the plasma pistols in the squad a bright yellow with purple power coils
Take it easy you dirty animals... I'll leave you with this one tid-bit; Fulgrim likes butt-plugs

Small update today - continuing with Marines Errant WIP shots
The skull has been highlighted, now I will pick out the small bolt shells before leaving the base alone (it will be picked up again after highlighting of armor panels, don't want accidental wash drips).
The Mech. skull got some paint but it still doesn't pop out, I think I will do very small silver (or white perhaps ) lines on the black sections.
I also started the washes around the rivets on the blue back armor panels, but not happy with results... the Nuln Oil wash looks too matte (if that makes sense...) so I will add some blue to the black wash (or maybe even ink)
Two Terminators received their light grey base coat, nothing much really to add except I got lazy and painted over some of the washes (if I left the Nuln Oil wash in place then I can use that as an existing shadow or join between armor panels...)
Here are the base colors I am using for the Marines Errant; Macragge Blue & Ulthuar Grey. I will be adding white to the grey for final highlighting, though nothing but extreme edge highlighting and washes for the blue.
Take it easy people and don't forget to rock out with your ... ah... just hang loose, OK

Very small update; 80% of the terminators have had their light grey and gold base coats completed and with recent brush arrival, the missile launcher Terminator can now have it's light-grey and gold base coat(s) finished
I was able to place a rough chevron pattern on the chainfist and the flat faces of the missile launcher Terminators, both are first draft and not happy with the following;
angles of the chevrons on flat face (missile launcher) are not symmetrical; look at the right flat section and then the left, you should notice it...
width of chainfist chevrons are too narrow
...and still not happy about the non-drilled assault cannon barrels
But remember... success never occurs without failure

Yep, Miguel pushes good tools and stuff, from a higher-end half of the painting/modelling table. His pigments and mediums deserve more use!
Now, I wouldn't consider Your terminators failure - first they are still work in progress and second - they look cool like that. Very interesting to follow - how would this white contrast darks and shades in the end. Cheers!

I'm loving that combat servitor, the parts go together really nicely. Shaving down the bolter was a good call, although the sling looks a bit unnecessary. I would've maybe gone for a bit beefier head/sensor, but what you currently have looks good and functional as well.
@Wirecat; Thanks for looking! You are correct, my Terminators are definitely WIP and they will not be a failure unless I completely stop
I am starting to experiment with some of Mig's oil brush products and his washes, in particular using one of the blue Oil Brushes for shading the blue armor sections of the Marines Errant (the Nuln Oil and blue Citadel washes just didn't work as I expected.. the Macragge Blue base-coat is simply too dark). The white sections are a Ulthuan Grey base coat with Nuln Oil washes in the recesses, then I will add thinned layers of Ceramite White on top of the grey.
@mcmattila; Thanks for looking! Yeah, I am a little torn with the idea of slings (and belts/pouches) on servitors and SM's.. I mean, Black Library authors always make reference to magnetic clamps but I have an argument for the use of slings/pouches/belts... wouldn't magnets affect the electronics of the servitor and/or the SM power armor? You are correct about the head, it is too thin and definitely needs some more sensors and wires. I don't know about the actual face though, likewise should all the combat servitors have the same face plate or be different?
Following are some of the weathering sets I recently ordered; now, I have never used anything so technical before so I am expecting some interesting results
- Dust effects box and contents...
- Wood effects box and contents...
- Engine and track effects box and contents...
Miscellaneous streaking effects that will be put to good use on and in vehicles, included are; streaking wash for interiors, streaking grime for exteriors, streaking for specific grey, chipping effect, etc...
Here are some WIP shots of the AT-AT I have been slowly working on... it can finally progress along, now that I have finished my procrastination... I mean, decision process around the weathering.
I finally got around to base coating it grey and by using only 1 coat, I am hoping it will add to the streaking effects yet to come
The front and rear of the AT-AT (the rear feet are a little too close for comfort, I don't know how realistic that would be... I guess I have to watch Empire Strikes Back again, and again, and again )
That's it for now, the next post will have some updates to my Marines Errants.
Take it easy and thanks for looking at my plog

@Fifty; Thanks for looking! Definitely time for detailing on the combat servitor... it's been a while for me Shoulder pads are a good idea, I was going to leave the shoulders bare to highlight the joints but you've changed my mind!
As promised in last post, here is an collective update of the assault marines. These haven't had any brushes on them for at least 2 years... I had to dust them off (apparently not too well, as you can see some dust fluff in the pictures ) and while doing so I dropped a couple, resulting in some dings that need to be corrected (pretty annoying...).
One of the marines dropped... happened to be the one which was ready for further detailing...
The damaged area...
The chaplain has received its base coats of colors and detailing has been started; washes over the gold and bone helmet darkened nicely but I muffed up the center talbard/scroll by putting a dark brown in the middle... shouldn't have done that.
rest of the squad... yes, dusty
I promise the next WIP shots will not be so dusty... I am fething embarrassed but won't change those photos!
A group of friends have started a D&D campaign and asked me to paint a few minis for them (big thanks to Carol, Josh and Smashley for getting me back to the brushes!!!).
I have painted a few pieces already but I wanted to document progress from start to finish on a new piece they sent me. I was originally calling her "spider lady" but found out she is Shaerileth, Spider Demoness (Reaper minatures). I would like to replicate a pattern similar to a writing spider (beautiful spider here in the upstate of SC!)
I was thinking of adding some putty to the joints where the legs meet the body, but I don't know... the legs of a spider do look segmented because of the exo-skeleton, will I ruin the legs if I do add putty?!?
Thanks for looking y'all, let's get painting

I think the legs look good as is. And personally I'd be tempted to put a jollyrancher in the abdomen, but maybe because I'm a bit weird. Cool model, looking forward to seeing what kinda color you slap on her.
@Warboss_Waaazag; Thanks for looking! After priming and applying the black wash, the legs look good as-is (glad I listened)
The main colors will be yellow and black with each 'spike' being white, while her body will be light grey I don't know what color her hair will be. I am using yellow writing spiders as a reference. The jollyrancher was a great idea, although it didn't fit, but how about some coca-cola tic-tacs
I went ahead and primed Shaerileth white, didn't use any spray (as it is humid here) but applied with brush. A little side-note, usually I water down my Citadel paints and as a prerequisite I have to wash the minis with soapy water before priming... this time I added Lahmian Medium and the 'thinned' white went down nice and thick, not like watery milk (and yes, I did see the threads on Dakka regarding this very subject... good reading )
After priming, I did my usual by applying a dark wash (Nuln Oil) to most of the body and straight black to the legs. I will be adding some 'ardcoat to the legs as a final touch to ensure that the legs are nice and shiny but that will be a final task.
As mentioned above, I am very glad that no putty was added to the joints as the articulation would have been covered up.
With the egg sac attached (not glued yet as it doesn't sit properly)...
Thanks everyone for looking at my plog, take it sleazy and remember it takes more muscles to frown than to smile, you dirty heathens

The following are some pictures of a yellow writing spider in my garden/yard. She is beautiful; females are the brighter and larger gender, they bump uglies with the males, eat them, lay an egg and then die. We don't kill them as they keep the garden nice and bug-free (mostly ). This is the color scheme I am following for Shaerileth (although her hair will be a color very different to yellow, black or white).
So using the above shots, I have painted the basic colors on the legs. The first set of legs are solid black (matching the writing spider), the last three sets had their third section painted Averland Sunset and washed with the original Gryphonne Sepia (yes, I have some spare pots ).
Pretty happy with the first results, the Averland Sunset will be brightened in the middle sections, I may redo the joints where the black meets the orange/yellow and thin the streaking effect (or add very small dots). Definitely needs a coat of 'Ardcoat to finish and ensure those legs are shiny. I really want that translucent effect on the colored sections.
I working on her body now, still going with a light grey color and gold for her body jewellery. The spider part of the body will be a darker grey (this does not include the egg sac).
Thanks for looking
