I have a few predictions I feel are quite realistic.
1: annual price rises will continue but cover less of the range at once. vehicles one year, flyers and small units the next, finecast after that, etc.
2: even more furious protection of the IP. small companies can be issued C&D orders but 3d printing will eventually be available to the public at office depot or something and gw will have problems with basic parts and mods being made. more savvy companies can even dodge the lawyers with generic products.
3: specialist games will be gone soon, rulebooks may be available direct only for a while though.
4: the hobbit will make a smaller lotr bubble to give the executives a false sense of accomplishment for a few years.
5: lotr ranges discontinued to boost sales of the struggling hobbit game as the aforementioned bubble bursts.
6: (this is getting 5-6 years ahead and is far less likely to be accurate) global economic changes and shifts in buying patterns put gw in hard times and it is bought out/taken over by a chinese corporation/international toy company.

call me cynical if you want, but did GW's shares not rocket when they released the LoTR range? Well the next installment is coming along isn't it?

Now the last couple of years, GW hasn't been that free with its money preferring to use it to clear some of the debt and make itself cash rich to withstand any drop in retail sales and allow it to survive.

Create a couple of lean years for itself through trade embargoes and above inflation price rises, watch their shares drop, purchase on the cheap and if/when they get the Hobbit licence their value rockets again.

Yeah I know cynical, but don't be so quick to sell those shares.

Cheers

Andrew

No, see, the $5 thing will happen. Only it'll be when GW is spiraling out of control and is slashing prices across the board so the Execs can grab bit more cash.

Furthermore, you will only be able to find these prices at the GW brick and mortar stores.

And the Red Shirt is required - by company rules - to kick you in the crotch as you leave.

You may be right. I was thinking more short term, as most stocks drop a bit after a dividend payout and the short concerns take their money elsewhere. I may hang on to my shares a bit and see what happens. I've taken a beating here recently since Citibank did their reverse stock split...ick, talk about ill-advised.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

2 years, GW introduces Eavy Metal Masterpieces. Many of the characters you love that are produced in "finecast" will be availible in white metal at a very reasonable collectors price.

5 years from now when everyone own 3d printers, GW will release Space marine templates that will only print 10 marines using GW's Printcast resin. Then Mareens v mareens until the end of days.

They will start trying to sell you an 'awesome new device' which can be used to hold their paint pots open... £8.99

It's actually the exact kind of dick-move I would expect from them. Also something I need...

They will close all Local retailers and Gw stores. The only way to get Gw is to travel first class to Nottingham, while juggling landmines, and drinking turtle piss.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
They willalso add a blow dryer to every paint pot, so as soon as you open it, it starts to dry, forcing you to paint crappy models, and buying more. Plus it makes their armies look better.

Gw will, upon purchase of models, administer testicular clamps, and clip the chain to their cash register. every time someone else buys a model before you do, the drawer will open, and the "tug" will remind you to shell out money.

this process will be repeated until you've relenquished your jewels, or they run out of clamps and let you go.

oh, that's easy. it will be a five pronged attack:

1) they'll raise the price of models, i'll have go to ebay and fellow dakkanauts to buy them.

2) they'll produce a low grade paint that dries up in a matter of a few months, so I'll go to cote d'arms (which never dries up) and vallejo for a quality product.

3) they'll start charging 30-50 dollars for a 12 dollar codex, so i'll download or buy used any reading materials i want.

4) ???*

5) Profit

*I think ??? indicates people paying full retail for the above three products, then coming on the internet to bitch about it.

You won't be able to buy models without first taking out an annual subscription to WD.
If you cannot subsequently prove you are already subscribed...

I am starting to get concerned that GW could be reading this thread and thinking, "ooo nice idea."
and then we will only have ourselves to blame for the pain.

Well in that case... gw will then try to tame a nest of african killer bees in every shop. To be store manager they must place said nest in underpants for a day. They will also drink the juice from elephant crap. And burn their expert painted armies. Now those are GOOD ideas!

Trouble is they are only the messengers, Midnight.

I have heard that for a company to be successful the CEO and his managerial chumsters should dance naked in a busy road on the night of a full moon. Having smeared chilli paste and mustard all over themselves.

This is guaranteed to raise share prices by at least 500%

Picaddily Circus or Marble Arch would be ideal venues.

They will put sensors in their models so if you use anything non-GW to convert they will burst into flames. Also, Matt Ward will find your mom and punch her in the face repeatedly until you only have SM armies.

No home-made terrain allowed. From now on all games must use GW sanctioned terrain.
-no shoe boxes
-no foam board
-no non GW buildings
-no getting out of the store without a brain slug that monitors you for hat wearing & unsanctioned terrain.
-if you use homemade buildings, terrain, or tables and the brain-slug finds out(he reads thoughts) as stormtroopers squad will storm the home, confiscate all models, burn terrain to cinders, and bill you for the fuel costs of the chopper.
-If you use models non-GW for 40k or FB purposes see above punishment.

Their next masterstroke? Painting services, with "high quality, 'eavy metal members" doing the deed. You put in an order for a box of _____________, and pay a gakload more to get them barely painted with the right-ish colors sloppily applied by some factory worker/machine, and receive the models 12 weeks later. Oh, and only one color scheme per model. And space marines are ultramarines. No exceptions.

I suspect they will soon shut down their website completely and announce new releases via a village bill board in the Outer Hebrides.

What will happen:
1. Continuing annual price rises
2. Cheaper and cheaper manufacturing processes which take the overall quality of the product further and further down.
3. People will continue to pay to have their back doors smashed in
4. People will continue to complain about it

What I want to happen:
1. GW raise their prices
2. Customers finally decide, as one, to show GW what they think of their practices and go else where taking their money with them
3. GW's revenue quickly dries up
4. GW pulls it back from the brink and start treating their customer base like human beings again
5. GW and customers live happily ever after

INB4 whiney git: I bought my army at discount, from ebay or second hand - Onlly buy supplies from GW. Even then I feel like I'm being kicked in the balls.

Short Term:

1. Plastic infantry boxes drop from 10 men to 5. Boxes do however include all the unit options. Price per model increases with the added bits used as the justification.
2. 6th edition 40k recommends a 8'x4' table and 2500 points per side.
3. 6th edition codexes complete transition to vehicle squadrons becoming the norm, and almost all units requiring a transport to be effective. Tank prices hiked.
4. LotR re-pushed with the release of the Hobbit.
5. All 40k/LotR/WHFB tournaments must be GW sanctioned. This means an IP policeman will be on hand to make sure all models are 100% GW. Tournaments must pay for this policeman, driving up ticket prices. Units must be the most recent version.

Medium Term:

1. All codexes and rulebooks move to digital format. Rules regularly updated to ensure the best army / best units change so people have to keep buying different models. Pay £10 a month to receive updates. Allows GW to easily insert new units into codexes for you to buy. Codexes include adverts for new models. You can pay £20 to have a codex printed and bound online, but that codex will be outdated in a few months.
2. Starter sets include pre-painted pre-assembled models. Troops units for all armies made available pre-painted. Prices for non-pre painted units increase as they are 'Customisable for the true hobbiest'.
3. More aggressive pursuit of video game adaptations and the released of a 3D animated kids TV show.
4. All online retailers must charge at least GW's RRP to ensure 'it's fair to brick and mortar stores'.
5. Facebook app to allow bragging about your army is in fact advertising in disguise.

Long Term:

1. 3D printing means units are printed to order in GW stores. Massive price hike for this 'amazing new technology'. All models have serial numbers printed on them so recasts can be traced back to the original for prosecution. (serial number printed across model's face so it cant be removed without ruining the model)
2. Pay more for units with special / heavy weapons. Pay more for unique poses. Pay more for hair styles. Pay less for ultramarines symbols.
3. Printed units come with a unit card required for play that includes their rules. Wanting to change their wargear requires a whole new unit to be printed.
4. Results of a game can be fed into a website, and your unit cards get reprinted to show the unit's history and to show how a unit has improved if they survive. (for a modest fee)
5. GW stores no longer staffed, completely automated.

6th edition 40k will nerf vehicles, forcing the use of larger footslogging armies

melta will also be nerfed, and plasma will be buffed, forcing another change

all GW products will be sold as 'Bitz' of 1.50 a bit, puting online bit stores out of buisness and driving up model cost, that lone imperial gaurdsman you wanted, he now costs £7.50

GW will buy out all the websites that have forums like this, close them down, and simply redirect views to their main site for all the latest to the minute price increases in the future.

Also, all domain names even remotely related to their IP will be bought and become their property, thus making any future website address for GW related hobbies something along these lines:

www.flowerkittyfuntime.com

Any use of the following will be contested by GW as infringing its IP:

War
Hammer

Fantasy
Battles
Terrain and all terms pertaining to tabletop terrain such as trees, walls, hedges etc
Codex
Army

and so on and so forth.

you get the idea.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Eureka!

Don't tell Tom Kirby but I have the answer.

How about a price rise, on a price rise.

Noone has done that one before, so its a new one. How about a 25% price rise on all price rises to account for raising standards of production by moving to resin which is 25% better quality. Makes sense doesnt it.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
