Cheers dude, the sculpting will simply be a case of practice but unfortunately I am an impatient man. I think you are right that the paint job will be important for the nurgle lord but I think I can still do more to help with the build. I might address his legs and try and do some stuff to the boots.
I got a bit of painting done before the Easter weekend takes over. Still a WIP, I tend to find highlighting cloth tricky so I specifically chose the scum as a challenge. Despite undercoating in black the models colours have come out quite bright. I will apply a second was and see if it will tone him down. i went for green as a spot colour but not sure if its working for me at the minute. Advice from all corners welcome..

went to the family home today and took the opportunity to pick up my necromunda scenery and old gangs. I found these two Escher models which are probably some of my favourite sculpts. I am especially fond of these two particular models as they are good examples of how simple weapon swaps can create new and dynamic poses, simple conversions are often the most satisfying. Easter has finished and its back to the grind stone.
I only had about an hour tonight so I based my first gang member. I chose the kneeling heavy as I knew I would have to custom base him anyway to make him a fair height. It is still very much a work in progress but I love how a detailed base can tie a model together. I am still unsure as to whether I should make bases for everyone or buy some scenic bases from somewhere. It is hard to tell the quality of a lot of them that are painted in their example shots and there are so many companies producing them now that I am feeling a little lost in the decision. Does anyone have any recommendations? Especially for a Necromunda theme?
I had accidentally built this model so that he was leaning, the base has rectified this as well as adding height
I also started work on my bounty hunter. I have had a concept for this guy in my head for a while and the temptation wasn't going away so I splashed out on some forge world parts on ebay which arrived this morning and I couldn't resist having a little tinker to see if they would fit together as I hoped with some existing parts. Here he is.
The pose has come out looking quite dynamic with the sweep of the coat over the trousers. He is going to have to be armed to the teeth (after all he is going to be a bounty hunter) but I don't want to loose the line of his torso and have him look overly bulked out with equipment. My girlfriend suggested attaching knives to other areas aside from the belt line, I really like this concept and will have a play with it tomorrow. The biggest dilema is whether to leave his face as it is or fashion an eye patch and, dare I say it, a stetson hat? Too cheesy and generic? All thoughts welcome and if anyone can help me out on good scenic bases it would be appreciated!

Ah Ephrael I just saw your post but unfortunately its too late! Behold, THE BIG HAT!
Still WIP and I have the option to take the hat off as his head is still under there. I have no idea how I am meant to fit a boltgun and grenade launcher on this model. Somebody please advise???
It was time for a new project and after ogling every one elses gangs on this forum for the past year I decided it was time to have a go myself. Apologies in advance to Ghostflame for shamelessly pinching many of his ideas. First up is the WIP of my boss.
I am very uncertain about his pistol arm and still need to remove some of the chaos iconography from the torso but the basic premise is there.
I also started on a little friend for him
I am not sure how I am going to tackle the problem of the scaly, I was thinking of maybe using the WFB Nurgle Chaos Lord as he has some serious height on him. Either that or the militia Ogryns from Forgeworld, but I don't think either are ideal. Anyway thats enough model making for one afternoon. All thoughts welcome.

that gunner looks very casual... i like that... snipers and the likes are a group of men that are renown for their calm demeanor...
the bounty hunter looks quite good... i am unsure about the flappy stetson head... either you make the rim a bit wider...to get that cad bane look... which would be quite fitting ...cause rebreather and coat speak to me of this character ... or... you could give him a bowler hat...tho even as i type that it is not really fitting... also... i would opt for less than more weaponry... a knife on his arm maybe... you probably can sculpt that even... but i wouldn´t add too much guns on him...after all you can´t get much more professional as a bounty hunter... and i imagine them slim, viscious, tough as nails and quick...the last one is a major factor for not having too much on them...
and will this be a ghoulish gang then?...boss looks promising...his minion too
oh...and... many, many, many thanks matey... the torso arrived today... looks good enough to eat ... now i am searching vigorously for a fitting raggedy looking leg bit... currently i am thinking zombie legs hevaily converted... your thoughts?
that bit is the best part of the hobby... rummaging around in your bitz box and playing with the endless possibilities^^
cheers, vik

@Viktor, I got rid of the hat, I think you are right. I imagine Bounty hunters this way too but wanted to try and represent all the equipment they come with in the game, I don't know why as I don't play with people that are anal about that kind of thing. I'm glad you got the part okay, I got worried after I sent it that you may have moved. I have repurposed the torso myself and am turning it into my second bounty hunter. pics coming soon

@Gerner thanks man, im a subscriber to your inquisimunder thread, particularly a fan of your Baston model and love the work on Metalus's gun, if its okay I'm going to steal that myself
@Yodhrin cheers dude, yes necromunda models should always look like they carry their house on their back IMO. I got a whole bunch of pistols on a sprue off eBay that work well for Munda but I think they are originally Gorka Morka weapon sets? If anyone knows different please correct me.
@Viktor ah bud how come you don't play Necromunda? You should give it a go honestly its great! I know from your blog you have a family so if its a time thing then I TOTALLY understand!
@Skalk hey man, thanks for the kind words, I have taken the hat off for now but I may build a new one for him, still can't decide. It came off in one piece and I ended up amusing myself by placing it on the heads of a variety miniatures, the Scavvy ganger has a zombie head which are overly large making it look like a trilby and as a consequence, him like Freddy Krueger.
I am currently modelling scales onto a model already featured in this thread to turn him into my Scaly. It is taking FOREVER. I spent 3 hours on it yesterday only to decide it wasn't working and rip it off. What's worse is the knowledge that even when the process is finished I'm going to have to do it all again to make a second one. Hopefully it will be worth it

I am not sure if this is the best I can do or I should pull them off and start again....
It took so long I have lost all perspective on the effect, sometimes I think it's alright, other times he looks just like he is covered in blobs
I had to take a break from staring at the same thing so I quickly played around with some bits and started this fellow.
He looks suitably mental. Finally I checked out a web page I had visited ages ago and found some cool mutation parts
http://www.shapeways.com/model/422661/scavenger-mod-pack.html?li=productBox-search
I thought about grabbing a set and a pack of pistols but with shipping it totalled out at nearly £25 which seemed awfully steep. Has anyone bought from here? Does the quality match the price tag? Do I have to rip the scales off my scaly? Please god don't say I have to rip the scales off my Scaly.

Dude no way at all is that worth £25 (roughly US $38, that's what I'm using as my gauge). It looks like quality craftsmanship for sure, but the price tag is ridiculous. I know this next bit isn't completely fair as they produce and sell in mass quantities, but still check this out: :
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1540209_99080102001_BitzChaosMutationsMain_445x319.jpg
Just something to consider.
The GS on your model looks great, but I have to say that really looking at it I think I found what's 'wrong' and I don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier- the axe is massively disproportional to the model. It throws off the scale, and the suspension of disbelief necessary to buy that axe is more than I can offer. Downsize the axe and I'll bet you will love the rest of the work you have done.
The other model looks completely insane. I know it is a mask instead of a facial feature, but it looks like a nutter and would be frightening to anyone that saw it. Ha.

I personally like the over scaled axe after all it is 40k and heroic scale, I did a close up of the big guy and the scales look good to me.
The one thing I would say though which might be throwing it of is the scales around the neck creases, theres a couple that are laying over the creases which looks wrong.
I would remove the scales overlapping the creases replace them with smaller scales, but place them just before the crease not up to its edge or into it.
I hope that helps some, do you have some liquid GS because if you do just run some around the scales to blend better.

@ Skalk - Cheers for the feedback dude. For some reason the axe does look quite oversized in some of the pics, but in reality it looks fine, it might be due to the crappyness of the iphone lens but I appreciate you thoughts on the matter, I may well play with changing it.
@L.D.Dog cheers for the advice, I do have Liquid GS and will play around with what you have pointed out!

I have a friend with that scavvy pack, the bits are quite good but the quality is not great because they are 3D printed at a fairly low resolution. You might be able to make out some of the bits in these photos - http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-57468-29427_Scavvies.html
I would say they probably aren't worth it, I reckon the new Forsaken kit is worth a look for similar bits, although it is also expensive.
For the scales - I think you should try adding some liquid gs and stippling it for a bit of texture, and maybe chip some of the edges with a scalpel. Maybe add a few more very small scales in between as well. At the moment they look a bit too smooth and round, but really promising so far. Don't peel them off.

Okay, big update for today, lots got done although nothing is finished. I started off with the aim of building just one ganger but then things began to snowball, I think it is one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby when you get into a groove and then realise that hours have passed in what feels like a few minutes.
First up my Scally, Stretch. He is going to be my Boss's personal bodyguard. started off by applying a few very small liquid GS scales, I also removed some of the scales from his left arm, breaking up the surface and bringing it in to line with the pattern on his right side, he is almost there now. @ Skalk I played with some smaller axe heads but in the end decided to stick with what I have, thanks for the comments though it was good to review it
I also added some photo contacts to the Scavvy boss but the plastic got a little glue damage in the process, I will post a pic so you get the idea even though I will have to redo the work. I think it moves the model further away from its fantasy parts. I like the fact he is starting to look more and more like a mad scientist. At the moment I am just calling him the Doctor whilst I search for a better name. I like the idea that he builds some of the gang out of various parts of corpses and any unfortunate ganger that has been captured. I may give him a servo arm, Fabius Bile style, to encourage this line of thought.
Next up the gangers and a chance to play with some mutations.
@Bruticus in regards to mutations, I already have various bits in hand from the forsaken kit, most of them are a little oversized but you may well see some of the parts on my next Scally.
First up my winged ganger Lockjaw
He is not finished yet, I need to add various bits and bobs to make him more 40K, i am also playing with the idea of using some PVA to make some stringy goo between his arms and the wings, like they have just separated and pulled apart. Not sure on this as if it goes wrong it all has to come off and I start again.
Next up Bones, a complete nutcase and the gangs resident chef.
He collects body parts for the Doctor, anything good and fresh goes on the operating table, anything foul and putrid goes in the pot
Finally a heavily augmented ganger. I dont have a name for him yet. I want to build a twin for him. Suggestions on what to call both of them on a postcard please!
I really enjoyed today, I am particularly pleased with the bone handles of the knives, you can see them on the reverse photos of Bones and my unnamed ganger. The joy of Scavvies is that there are no rules so you can do what you want, the challenge is to make all the very different models tie in together as one gang.
More to follow, sorry it is all so pic heavy.
Nathanie1 out.

For slime (or blood effects), I'd suggest using hair coated in superglue. It's much more durable than pva or uhu glue. Then paint with tamiya clear.

@ Bruticus, cheers for the tip, i will look in to it. also thanks for posting about those 3d printed parts, I think I will avoid them, cheers for the heads up. Automatically Appended Next Post: @ Viktor I have a pet peeve with tyranid parts in that I always look at them on models and think the same thing "oh look, thats a Tyranid part stuck to that model'. What I mean by this is that they are very distinct and it is hard to make them look like anything else other than a part from a tyranid kit. I am not knocking anyone that uses them, my brother is a big fan of them and I can only wish to be able to produce miniatures like he does, just a personal gripe. (takes a deep breath) rant over.
