A lot by Cronenberg tends to have wtf moments.

Naked Lunch
Videodrome
ExistenZ

Clockwork Orange the novel WAS more disturbing than the movie. Especially when you consider Alex's age (and that of the two schoolgirls he beds).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

No

Considering they are radically different movies, even if you don't have a profoundly negative reaction to it, it will still be different since it is a different thing.

The original Solaris. Every time that that film's shown at 3am in the morning on Film 4, that first scene with its long shots and the astronaut making his case with all the diplomats and generals treating him like a fool is prett unerving. In fact most of Andrei Tarkovsky's work's pretty trippy (and don't even start me on Stalker).

Other Russian films like Burnt by the Sun and Siberiade (both with Nikita Mikhalkov starring) are also pretty screwed up with all their political metaphors and making you realise just how screwed up humans can be. Not to say that I don't just adore any of the films...but yeah Russian cinema's produced some jems . ^^

I was disappointed by that film, it wasn't really that fethed up and the main character was downright stupid at times. The end wasn't satisfying either.

If you ever go to a live theatre production of Rocky Horry Picture Show, prepare to be showered in fluids.

I watched Gattaca back in 2003, and that movie made me think A LOT. The idea of man manipulating genetics is truly mind-boggling, and it gets even crazier when we get into human augmentation a la Deus Ex.

I certainly did say "what the feth did I just watch" until I looked up the details behind the plot of the movie, and the idea of Transhumanism.

The movie Audition
The movie Martyrs
Both need to be seen, Martyrs flipped my wig for sure. Audition was one of the first Japanese horrors i saw, really good one to start with because it set the bar really high.

See I liked the film, and I LOVE the book. I've read it many times.

Bateman is, essentially, stupid. An empty vessel. He's like a shark, just fins and teeth. Apparently, Bale based his portrayal of Patrick upon an interview he saw of Tom Cruise - "all false friendliness, with nothing behind the eyes".

I think Christian Bale captured the essence of Bateman pretty well, though the Film is heavily sanitised.

The life aquatic with steve zuzu. I've seen disturbing, I've seen 'experimental'. That movie was so bad I repressed most of the memory. Which is quite the shame as it had such potential with that cast...
Other than that I think Devil's rejects made me go 'WTF?!?' The most. Rob Zombie is a god. He had me feeling for those psychopaths by the end of it. You saw how horrible they were. What they found 'fun'. And it would have made Slaanesh proud. But by the time the movie was over he had you going 'oh those poor people', and you WEREN'T talking about their victims... that's what made me go wtf.

The Wayward Cloud.

It was advertised to me as a musical. I went to see it. 3 people walked out in the first 5 minutes. When I came out of the theatre I STILL did not know WTF I had seen.

edit : The worst is this is actually a sequel. I dare not watch the 1st movie.

Oh.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I personally dont get why so many people like Devils Rejects. Are you guys just saying you like it because its a cool thing to say or what? Because I just cant see it, it really is a steamy pile of dog vomit on a plastic disc. The story was terrible, scenes just rolled onto each other, made little sense. It really just felt like gore porn, How far can I go, and still get it approved by the ratings board, thats how it felt to me.

Which was a shame because I loved House of 1000 corpses. Infact the wife and I have an autographed DVD set from Sherri Moon and Rob himself. But that movie just sucked ass. I feel the same way with his Halloween movies. The first remake was just awesome, such a good remake, and his 2nd version was a steamer as well. Thats the real WTF in this thread
