You really think that they faked the whole thing?

US officials admit that they lost control of a drone over the Iranian border, but didn't say if it was shot down or not.

Ignorance is bliss I suppose

Dude, the Iranians at least at one point said they shot it down with an ENERGY WEAPON.

Uh huh.

Suuuure.

Dont tell that to the history channel, I dont want to see a special about Iranian Aliens....

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

The biggest difference is that China is an autocracy, and has gotten away with shooting lots of its own people in recent history.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

And we imprisoned thousands of our own citizens just because of how they looked and where they were from just because their home country attacked us. The detention of Japanese-Americans was well tolerated after Pearl Harbor and although more people spoke out against racial profiling of Muslim Americans, there was still many who accepted it after 9/11.

Sure we don't shoot people out of the blue, but they haven't shot and killed Ai Wei Wei yet thanks to international pressure. He hasn't even disappeared from the public eye.

Are you really attempting to argue that there is not a significant difference between the ability of the Chinese state to manipulate its people, and the ability of the American state to manipulate its people?

Well it's done in a different way but you could remark that the end result (of having a control over the minds of the population) is remarkably similar. The difference being that China I think will gradually come round to the Western ways, away from the controlled economy and authoritarianism, seen previously in Japan and South Korea, as the middle class grows and the country pushes itself towards first world status. Is it a 'Gramscian Hegemony'? I can't remember the exact name, essentially it means that you convince everyone of their freedom, their rights and potential within the political system, but in reality for the average plebeian the opportunities presented to 99% of the population are remarkably similar regardless of the label given to the political structure that rules that country.

Regarding comments above however that it's in China's interests to square off against the US. Well, I think they are making far too much money at the moment for something like that to be a sensible option. Unless you are speaking in some kind of metaphorical sense, with Chinese military transports dropping flat screen TVs and sports-wear over mainland America.
