Shangri-La

Had a bad one today.

'The ball grabber' - while playing this dude randomly grabs and fixes his balls. The worst is if he doesn't try to hide it. I've had one do it while looking me in the eyes finishing a sentence. I get your big. I'm big myself. It gets sweaty down there from time to time. Atleast try to hide it!

So. Cal

The spectator that stands right next to the players, crowding the table instead of standing to the side or out of the way of the people playing the game.

And then there's the cheapass that photocopies the rulebook/codex because he's too cheap to buy his own. What makes him so special that he doesn't have to pay for the game like everyone else does? The same douche also has some of the worst modeled/painted counts-as armies that are basically ebay rejects.

I don't have really too much peeves in real life, I get more peeves when on the internet and people get new releases for their army then complain about how it has been all "ultranerfed" and how the army is rubbish now when the new releases have been out for less than 24 hours, I mean c'mon talking about not giving it a chance... I mean I went on to the General 40k discussion here to see what the new Tau were like, obviously silly me forgot that people like to see instantly a safe "autowin" with spammable units and all I see are a few people (note: I did not say all people just a few) crying that their rail guns are S8 and how they are useless now... S8? USELESS? I play CSM and Orks... S8 is amazing and you also have AP1 and (from what I have heard) TWIN-LINKED? I use a Forgefiend regularly as well as Deffkoptas and S8 takes down MC and majority of vehicles, also you get extra shooting buffs from other units, etc... HOW CAN YOU COMPLAIN? then I guess after a month people will be saying that Tau rock the shores, which leaves me to another peeve... Hypocrisy, I mean it keeps happening when a new book is released, because from what I see a few people are not seeing "draigowing-cron-air-of-awesomeness-autowin" and cry every time they see balanced books (which to me is great I love the way they have balanced everything, one thing that the Games Developers in GW got right) then after a month they think its a decent dex... but still not Draigowing 5th ed... Newsflash: the codexes are not going to have an "instawin" button anymore and you should be grateful that we will be seeing more variety in lists now instead of the same mirrored lists like in 5th ed.

I've got to agree with this. On the same day the Tau book was released you'd have thought the sky was falling. I would much rather put more thought into a list than simply letting the Internet tell me what the auto-take units and wargear are. I think some people just find it more enjoyable to complain.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

On the day of release, the people who go online and ask about a whole new codex, if its any good, what to and what not to take etc. on the day of release for goodness sake! Give people a chance to play the codex a few times, against different armies, kinda difficult to do so on the day of release

They just want to learn everything about the codex, on someone else's dime, before they decide to buy it. And people overreact because they want the instawin button; they don't like to think. We can all thank the GK and 'crons for this.

Gamers that are rude and abusive about games they say they don't play but can't stop talking about.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

People that mock your army of choice. I played a guy a while back (when I was like 15 I believe) who mocked my chapter of space marines, the Ultramarines. When I had ventured in the wide world of models and other wargaming hobbies 3 years or so before hand, I started collecting and painting the models to try and make them look the GW models on the back (They were so cool and shiny and blue!). This just happened to be the Ultramarines and I honestly have no regrets, I love them and they were my first taste of the wargaming world.
I guess the most annoying part is the guy I was playing at the time was one of those large sweaty gamers in their mid 20's who probably should have laid off the fried chicken he took to eating midgame... using an army that was nearly unpainted or painted in his unique "black with red trimmings" chapter.

I guess gamers who enjoy or look for easy wins also annoy me. In that same day of meeting this Mr KFC eater, after that battle (having only managed to barely get a draw in my first actual game of 40k) his mate comes over, sees my army, and then the two of them get this little gleam in their eyes and suddenly they both want to play me at the same time with their Space Marines and Tyranids against my UM... It may have just been my gut feeling but it seemed like they both wanted to have fun beating a kid and for some reason gained some joy in the idea of an easy win since i was new to playing (hadnt had anyone in my town or area who played and so i traveled with a friend to visit a gaming club a couple of hours away).

TL;DR - Dont like smelly, obnoxious gamers, bad experiences with them. Also dont like gamers who look for easy wins on younger players who are new to their hobby of choice.

Here's an annoyance of mine, and I admit it's petty, but here it goes...

In my local area, there has become an incredibly common occurance of otherwise intelligent WHFB players using the word "chafe" when referring to "chaff."

"Chaff" is the detritus associated with winnowing grain; it's the husks, leaves, and stems that we don't eat that are essentially waste that needs to be separated from the grain we want to eat. In WHFB, it generally refers to small units that are used to delay, distract, and divert the opponent. The word is pronounced such that it rhymes with "laugh."

"Chafe" is the term for rubbing something, usually to the point of making it sore or raw. It is prounced such that it rhymes with "safe."

It makes me give an internal eye roll when I hear a college educated, gainfully employed, experienced gamer say, "I would have done better, but I spent too much time focusing on my opponent's chafe."

Opponent's never painting their armies after months of playing with the same black metal chipped army

I jumped into Warmahordes, a handful of SMALL fully painted armies out of 30~ players

Maybe that player was indeed paying too much attention to the 'chafe'

The guys who criticize the army choices you've made and/or the paint jobs on said army really get to me. More so than TFG's or WAAC's, which is weird. The after battle chit-chat is something that I enjoy immensely, so any advice or critiques on tactics then are fine by me. It's during the fight that the opponent or some onlooker decides to comment on how I'm playing that really frosts my ass. And the expert painters telling you that your scheme is wrong or poorly done, jesus christ, I can't keep calm when this douchecanoes show up.

"Wow, those Guard suck, you didn't even paint their hands a flesh tone."
"They're wearing gloves."
"Guard don't wear gloves, way to be lazy."
