I decided that I really did not like the roof. I was going for another rooftop garden sort of thing, but meh, not this way. So, I've worked on a bit of a change...

I will put a dome on it... of course. Those are more or less one of the unifying features for this table. I'll see about working in some sort of greenery or tile or water once I finish the dome.

Beautiful work, great shapes, really fancy having a go soon. So inspirational.

Thanks guys. I have to admit that it is a bit of fun just making up shapes as I go. Kind of like building sandcastles, only these are longer lasting I think the challenge is to keep the asymmetry and still maintain the balance and proportion.

So, a few late stage WIPs of the dome for this building. I went with a traditional shape, and more ribbing.

Needs a bit more smoothing. Thing is the wood filler is great for paper, but I need to use high grit (180 or 220) sandpaper to avoud damaging the paper. So tedious at times. Still, this is to my eyes an improvement on the rooftop garden. I still might find some space for a bit of the garden motif though. The greens and blues contrast nicely with all the brown tones. And a few windows somewhere too. And of course the usual building details.

The way the dome portion fits to the roof though, might need to re-think that, so that we can get to the interior of the building and leave the dome in place.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you much gentlemen.

Minimal progress on the terrace. But every step towards the goal, no matter how small, is progress. I'm sure I've said that. Anyway, started the 'terracing effect. Going to build some stairs into this terrace, and on the other side. Maybe some other stuff too.

Hey mate! I really like this! Lovely organic shapes going on with those buildings and the form of the terrace is nice!

My only point... and it is my own personal preference... is there is a little bit of awkwardness between the lovely organic nature of the buidings... and the regular grid like appearance of the hexagons on the terrace...... IMHO i think even circular terrace peices.... or a swirling effect would tie it all together.....

Please dont take it as a negative..as i said it is only my opinion..... but the build and the quality is top notch!

Thanks, and remember C&C is always welcome The plan is to paint the hexes like terra cotta tiles so they blend in a bit better. But if it doesn't work, I'll rip 'em up and try something different. Or rip up a few here and there to remove the regularity of the pattern... hmmm, you may be onto something MagosBiff.

Well, Dr H, they are baby steps at the moment, but I'll get there. One hopes that I complete enough by the end of August that I can showcase it in a local tournament.

And now I need to build a rest-room in that time frame too.

So Comfort Station Zebra. For the LoER contest. A little progress. I'm finding this a nice challenge too.

Going for a 28mm scale thing here, so don't let that enormous base trick your eyes. In scale the stupid thing is like ~135-138 cm in diameter (4'10") Try tracing a circle that size and then stand in it. Sheesh. I would so prefer 20mm bases. But won't happen. I'll live with it. Bah. Enough whining. I've got plumbing to build

And for grins, I found the floorplans for an adobe style guesthouse. So, to prove a point

I'm going to build the thing to 28mm scale. And it will be playable. Might do something about those right angles though.

Wow , love the floor plan idea. Never got into infinity, but that setup would be cool for a paramilitary style game where you need to snatch a target in a hotel or office complex .

Hmm, that was exactly what I was thinking, Theo. Use it as a safe house to rescue/assassinate the civvie (a non-combatant mini which we use in Infinity from time to time.) The idea is to have 3 of them for a shell game scenario.

Second one is not an outhouse Vik, but as can be seen, does have rather a nice bathroom. That bathtub in the upper right left corner is huge. Which is cool, since it is a good place for a model to hide in, even with the big base

edit: Yeah trouble telling left from right sometimes.

Apartment? Get yourself and the family a house, Vik. That way you can turn the basement into your workshop. It's what I've ended up doing. So peaceful and quiet down there...

Anyway, some more progress. Started the exterior walls

And a bit of work for the floor and doorways.

I think I'll just print out a tile pattern for the floor, rather than paint it. I've found that works pretty well if you print on 75# or 110# paper and seal the printed tiles with a polyurethane. But Ojo! spray the stuff, don't brush it on or you will smear the ink.

Got to get this stuff out of the way so I can get started on what really matters. Plumbing

Yup, the movie indeed. +1 Vik. Saw it many years ago, one of the Saturday morning matinee things local TV stations used to do around here. Can't remember a thing about it except the title.

Now hand cut from mother of pearl... Hmm, well, I want to avoid a repetitive motion injury here. I was thinking this

But this is nice too Perhaps this on the walls?

There is some time to experiment.

Excellent find Ruglud. I now have my next project

The only Russian I remember learning is до дна, товарищ! (to the bottom, Comrade. A drinking expression)

Anyway, quick and dirty floor tiles. As my painting skills wane (eyesight, hands... aging really sucks) my digital imaging skills wax. One door closes and another opens I guess. Hope it doen't lead to an Oni

Only I got lazy and used a rattlecan sealer instead of airbrushing on a water-based polyurethane. So, it smells, and I'll have to let it finish off-gassing before I can do more work. At least on the interior.

Thanks Grimdork.

Quick Update. Did the walls for the comfort station, but messed up the door panels, so back to the cutting board for that.

And to glue things

The Adobe House

And with the floor in place. The blue tiles are for the bathroom area. I figure If I screw up the comfort station, I can do something with this bathroom toilet throne.

And a nice exterior shot.

Thanks for stopping by.

Great work, both looking fantastic. Some lovely curves going on.

Isn't it amazing how if you try and real scale stuff it looks slightly off. 40K has ruined us. Don't get me wrong it looks Freakin awesome. But by GW standards shoulld be 50% bigger or a good 30% smaller if using vehicle scale?

Well GW vehicle scale is all over the place. The Leman Russ (based on the old French tank the Char B1, FYI) is risible. It is also one of the first vehicles they made. I had one in '95. The Rhino on the other hand, scales like this (using the 28mm to the eyes of a person of average height scale)

........................Rhino.............Bradley Fighting Vehicle
Length.............6.55m...............6.55m
Width..............4.23m...............3.6m
Height.............2.72m................2.98m* (*includes turret)
[how the do you set up charts on this forum anwyay )
So they are comparable, but the rhino is a bit wider. I don't have other vehicle measuements for comparison, but I think most of the vehicles they did a decade ago turned out all right, mostly.

As far as the minis go, well, when I first saw the Infinity minis, they seemed slender and small. My perception adjusted quickly enough, and now the GW human and near human minis look crude and grotesque to me, like little plastic or pewter troglodytes. The non-human stuff has no point of comparison, so they still look fine. See for yourself.

Yeah I know. Finish painting them.

The Imp of the Perverse said something like that to me just the other day I have something planned. It will make for an entertaining moment, if nothing else. You'll see.

Like this Doc...

First measure and use the knife to notch the material where you wish to cut. This way you are not off by the width of a pencil line, accidentally of course.

If you do need to use a pencil, remember to make witness marks (the little 'x' )so you know on which side of the pencil line to cut.

I use a version of a 'J' hook for my cutting board. The wooden fence is fixed to the board (an old piece of particle board) , and I use the square against it to make perpendicular cuts. Hold the material flush to the fence and cut away.

You could also combine the square with a triangle to do the same thing.

I don't hold the blade at a high angle like this

But rather a lower angle, like this

This also helps avoid fouling the cuts in foamcore too.

And finally, I do what I'm not supposed to

I hone the blade from time to time to keep it sharp and to make it last longer

Hope this helps.
