Hey Dakka!

It's been a while since I could really sit down and start modeling again. The new house tends to divert hobby funds, but I finally got my work room set up and landed a really cool opportunity to keep building without spending lots of cash.

I've partnered up with a commission service, White Metal Games, to do monthly projects for their new patreon channel. I'm not sure that I could ever keep up with the standard commission service as I'm not the most efficient when it comes to painting on a time table. This works out perfectly since I've got a full month to focus on one project at a time, plus, I get to add my own spin on what i'm working on, so there's a lot of room for creative input! While I don't get to keep the models, it's a great opportunity because they supply me with the materials, which helps with the aforementioned cash flow.

I had a great time working on this model and really pushed myself on new techniques. While I may be ok with a blemish here and there on my own models, I really wanted the person who wins this model to enjoy it, so I took to youtube and started watching tutorials on more advanced techniques to get that better quality. I know it's not Grade A painting, but at the end of the day, I feel very proud of this one and feel like it will be well worth the $2.00 raffle ticket when he gets sent off for someone else to deploy on the battlefield.

So here he is with the before and after shots. Hope you guys enjoy and as always, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have!

Mad cool as always, very steam punk this time.

Thanks man!

I was going for a "reactor" kind of look over the standard combustion engine. You are definately right about the clown assasin. The proportions totally match up!

Awesome Dread, man! I love the pose and the power klaw is all kinds of bonkers.. So much detail!

The small details like the hazard stripes and blue lens for the eye look outstanding as well.

I'm excited to hear more about this new partnership you're embarking on, Nova! Keep the updates a coming!

Thanks dude! lol, that claw was why I was asking you about thicker card. It's 3mm thick and was an absolute pain to cut out such tiny pieces!

Part of this deal is making videos for their Patreon page, which i'm trying to get edited and sent over. Never done anything like this before so the first one is a little rough.

The next project will be an orky plasma obliterator proxy. still working out the plan on it but I think i'll be able to come up with the general idea once all of the supplies arrive int he mail today.

Construction has begun on the plasma Orkbliterator! Luckily for da orks, they've stumbeled upon the perfect power source for their next ramshackled design.

Thanks Zillian!

Been busy with work lately but got a chance to get some more built over the weekend. The overall form is pretty much complete which will allow me to begin working out the more detailed pieces and start giving it an "orky" feel. For the Necron power plant, I wound up throwing a coat of resin over the plaster for an added layer of protection and level out some of the uneven pieces to keep with the necron aesthetic. Not sure if i'm going to add runes at this point, but if it doesn't scream "Necron" I may have to. Still working out the design for the gun emplacement, but i'm thinking of a radar-esque doom ray. If anyone has some doomray suggestions i'd love to hear them! My google skills have failed me in finding reference material for inspiration.

That orky stuff is genious!
Very nice work - can not really give any advice on conversion / painting since your awesome creations make me look at my stuff with tears.

I`m working on an Orkliterator as well and will go for a gun with lots of cables, wires and plasma chambers.

That necron power source will need no glyphs imo if you paint it in a nice, glowing green.

In the casting shack.

Even before reading that the power source was Necron tech it screamed Necron, which is a positive.

Thanks guys, I'm glad it's easily recognizable as a necron structure!

Build time has been slow over the last few weeks but i've made some additional progress. Since i'm doing this all on video, i've found it a bit easier to build everything in pieces to be attached, so everything is just held together with sticky tack at the moment.

One thing that i'm kind of excited about was the chain links I created for this project. I've decided to have the turret work on a gear chain system which should be a really neat detail once it's all painted up. The links were kind of tedious to figure out but it went pretty fast once I got into a rhythm.

On a side note - I'm thinking about adding in a green LED at the center of the necron generator just to add a little extra kick.

Just a little fun item to add in - Got delayed at the airport and figured i'd download a drawing app for my phone. Came up with this as a general concept for what the main cannon could look like.

Oh! One more thing - I'm not great with the whole advertising thing but I figured i'd put this out there. The group that i'm doing this for is raffling these off and so far, they have a pretty small base for their patreon channel while it's getting built up. There were only 7 participants in the killa kan drawing, which means that someone got a pretty sweet deal at $2 bucks per raffle ticket. That said, if you want a good chance at some cool models on the cheap, it's worth checking out. You do have to subscribe to the patreon channel but it's a couple bucks a months and has some cool video content to go with it (including the killa kan build / paint videos). Here's the link if you want to check it out.

Little more progress. Wound up redoing one of the sides and added in a rotary engine to give more of a "functional" vibe.

Some very nice scratch builds and paint jobs there.

I do think you need a few more actual boys though

Ugh, i've got so many boys that need to be painted. Oddly enough, I find that to be way more daunting than just building something crazy from scratch!

More progress.

Started fiddling with the LED's and some swirly effects for the necron power plant. The plasma cannon is coming along nicely but I'm hoping it's not too dissporportinate to the rest of the model. Should be ready to start painting soon once I get some rivets popped on and gaps filled.

These are bloody amazing! The builds themselves have a ton of great detail and style and then you put a fantastic paint job on top of it all! I really like your use of color. It really helps accentuate the detail and keep them visually interesting.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Facelyss!

Since I don't play anymore it has been a little bit more freeing to shed the rules / cohesive army restrictions that one might normally try to adhere to. I've been experimenting with all kinds of new techniques & schemes in hopes of getting up there with the "upper echelon" as far as skill goes. Hopefully there's noticeable improvement from model to model, but I always rely on everyone here to point out where I mess up so improvements can be made!

Thanks Riddle!

Ok so I'm super excited about this one. I wound up running some fiber optic strands to a half sphere that I moulded with resin and some green coloring. I wanted to have the rod illuminated through the dish antenna and it worked like a charm! The rod is removable so I can just pop it out for easier painting.

It also still swivels as a turret! The battery is placed right under the base so it you can be sure to point it right at your enemy before unleashing total annihilation!

Thanks Scott!

My bosses name is actually Scott and I thought this might be a ploy to see if i'm working

The next round of pics will be the finished product (hopefully this weekend). Just a reminder for those that are interested - This stuff gets raffled off on White Metal games patreon page. It's still pretty new and as such, has a low member count which means a better chance of winning the raffles!

Ok advertising aside - Once the Orkbliterator is finished, i'll get to start working on a new project. I wanted to reach out to all of you to see if you had any thoughts or ideas for future projects that you might like to see. don't be afraid to get crazy with the ideas! After all, this is an Ork thread!

Ok I lied...

Not finished yet but I was super happy with the way the base came and wanted to share more pics. I always love this stage of a project because you get to finally see the piece in a more cohesive manner and get some better depth on the details.

Finally decided to pick up some magnets and made a detachable casing for the battery. Not sure why I always thought working with magnets would be hard. Should have started doing this a long time ago!

Decided to keep the pieces detachable for easier painting. The basing alone was a total pain to get into all of the overlapped spaces, so this has been a huge help in getting full coverage. it almost took a full can of spray paint just to get the black base on.

Thanks Desubot!

Well, here it is. Finally got it finished up and shipped out. I tried a bunch of new effects and feel about 95% happy with the paint job (-5% because I messed up the little rotary engine and the gears fell off), I have to say... I will miss making charge up laser sound effects with this one but i'm super excited for whoever wins the raffle.

The LED's really made it tough to get this pictures without messing with the camera. It looked so much cooler irl with the lights on but I still think this pic looks cool. The rest had to be taken with the lights off so all of the colors would look right.

Hope you all enjoy - as always, C&C is welcomed and appreciated.
