Beyond the Beltway

I finally bought a generator about 4 years ago, after a particularly brutal outage during the height of summer. Very useful the 2 whole times I've really needed it. (any outage that will last more more than say 6 hours) It has enough juice to run a fridge, a window AC and some lights and fans... and of course the TV Power inverters that can transform a car into a generator of sorts are useful too.

Matte sealer will darken them a little bit, but will also make then a bit more durable. Experiment first?

The floor looks more malachite than marble at this point. Ask Mr. Google for a little visual inspiration here. It would look spectacular.

Great looking scenics, Theo. I admit I was a little dubious at the initial green on that CD base, but the finished product works pretty bloody nicely. Unfortunate to hear about the power outage, but at least you got it back before it destroyed your foodstocks. That's not the first outage you've had in the last few months, is it? Maybe a Generator might be the way to go?

I don't think it's great for the refridgerator to be unplugged and let idle either.

I searched up that malachite, very neat. Thanks for the info on the sealer

How dare you be dubious of the official for so many years of GW green basing method

I do still have a few jars of 'Ard Coat on the shelf, might give it a shot on a sample piece like Red suggested.

Did a bit on the green marble, but no pics yet. Not sure it came out well, always time to paint over it. Also started the base color on the ground for the larger 8x8" ruin.

Onto further news, my sprue order from Warlordgames is in route. It shipped yesterday morning, so we will see how long a small package takes from England to the US. My larger order should be shipping Friday. Hopefully I'll get one of them by the start of next week as I'm on VACATION! I'm not going anywhere and my wife will be out of town for a teacher conference, so just me and the kids......and paint, and ripping apart the basement because I want my mancave back.

Thanks Kestral, more beyond the gates of Antares figs hopefully real soon. I got my sprue shipping notice Monday, but being in the states means about 10 days. Also tomorrow they should be shipping my Kar'A nine set, Xilos rulebook, and the new rulebook who's name eludes me currently. It would be nice for it all to hit early next week as Sunday I am on vacation and my wife will be out of town. Plenty of painting time to be had.
dsteingass wrote:Wow Vik, That's some really poor advice

Sam and Ella's grocery chain would believe in that method of refrigeration.

As stated above, I'm on vacation next week, and the wife will be out of town. I foresee plenty of Zombicide with my kids and painting time when I need a break from all the love. I have 3 or 4 interviews set up as well as I'm looking for something for more satisfying and better pay as well.

Well I had some time this morning, so finished one piece and working on others. More painting over the weekend.

Ruined well with a piece of floral stuff as a alien tree.

First layers on the blown up building are in progress. I was painting in the basement, but most of my paints are upstairs, so just base colors so far.

Lastly a street set up has been primed.

Thanks Azazelx, it's an 8x8 terrain piece that will be useable for gates of Antares or other games.

Camkierhi wrote:These terrain pieces are looking brilliant, and you are knocking them out pretty good. Going to make a really great table.

I hope to really get working on the table this coming week. Maybe even a layout or.......a game .

Well the kids have slept in till 11:00 am, so I had some spare time.

Portable trees. The black discs are about the size of an American quarter. The edges sticking out will be trimmed off, couldn't find my hobby knife.

Entrance to an underground lair, a last second creation that will most likely hit the trash bin. The superglued not holding and I had put the hot glue gun away already.

A little romantic stroll along the beach with my favorite zombie stand in and the start of two alien coconut trees.

Things came out during the stroll along the beach and our relationship got rocky . Boulder field.

Zombie said I could make it up to him by buying him a new car. It's not in the budget, but I said if he dug it out I'll buy him some new tires.....

Just my luck he wants monster truck tires

Totally not zombie related, just two blank grassy discs to junk up with foliage once everything dries.

Thanks for looking

The brick bits are the Mantic battlezone sprues from Mars Attacks. They have the same connections as the regular space battlezone bits.

Hobby knives were on the desk, but the one I wanted to use was upstairs.....and I'm lazy.....and the kids were sleeping so I stayed in my nice junky basement.

So plan for the week is to clean/ clear out the basement and get my hobby on. Do interviews, get a new job that pays more, and call my bosses and tell them where to find their heads.

Sprue order has arrive ,

Not much, one Ghar shooty guy and two Ghar bombardment guys. For $25.04 including shipping it was a good deal. Also I got the shipping notice on Monday and it arrived from ENGLAND (sorry for the caps, but ENGLAND) in 6 days. Also got notice my big order of two books and the Kar'A nine box set shipped out Friday. Hopefully it comes as quick or quicker so I have vacation time to work on them.

With these three guys I now have enough to make two bombardment squads (3 figs per squad) and a squad of 3 assault guys. Unfortunately that means I don't have enough order dice for them .

I'm thinking of redoing the Ghar in metallics....
I'm going to test out Nerdfest09's paint method for his Minotaur marines on one to see if I can come close.

Well I got to the phase two of Damo's Minotaur paint scheme and the new Ghar are looking so good as possible iron warrior bots that I think we have a new paint scheme here.

So here's the old Ghar next to the new ones which I'm painting on sprue.

Free not two were the test colors I did, then one painted with my new base layer of stormhost silver. Then an unprimed model and two primed Ghar.

Close up of the Ghar on sprue after stormhost silver and heavy null oil wash(I was too lazy to head down and grab the pot of badab black).

Im planning on getting the stormhost silver built model washed before I go to the dentist this morning before going with more colors.

Yeah, pretty iconic with terminator and iron warriors. I think it's just the cold hard steel color is engrained in our head.
dsteingass wrote:Those look pretty sweet so far Theo!

Thanks dave

Well yellow is happening...I just can't escape that color for some odd reason.

It'll get another layer (zamesi desert on to of the averland sunset) and probably agrax earth shade on it when I'm back from the dentist. But now I must decide on the glowey bits color for him. I don't want red, I might paint all those parts white and then keep layering black as these guys use crazy unstable energy(disruption) in the game, ought it might be purple and use the black on the armor like true iron warriors .

Thanks Azazelx, the yellow does really bring out the iron spirit in them.

So had a productive painting day.

Some yellow needs touching up, but they all now also have black shoulder pads too . All the better for iron warrior transfers . No hazard stripes. Still debating the energy field color and eye lenses.

I have two more of the assault Ghar suits to repaint, they were the test color ones, but now they will get their bionic replacements and attitude adjustments.

Interview tomorrow, not too excited about it, but would be a better job all around. After that it's time for me to work up at church and when I get home I'll be chauffeuring kids to volleyball and whatnot. Also more work needing to be done in the basement. I thought this was vacation time .

The unwanted humor part might be why I like them so much now that you mention it. The crab legs are definitely strong with their entire faction.
Azazelx wrote:Good luck on the Interview!

Thanks Azazelx, interview went really well. I'm sure I'm moving onto the next step which would be a final round with the district manager. He's actually the one who forwarded my resume to this stores manager to do the initial round. I love that fat orange cat , and its Tuesday which is great, because I hate mondays .

Got the last two suits silvered and two coats of null oiled. Hopefully will get the done today/tonight. Picking the girls up from volleyball practice now.

On a side note I've also been clearing out the basement . I might move my whole setup to the far corner by the furnace and water heater just so the kids have more space to play in. Right now I've got a 7-8'x 15' area cleared that my work space could soon occupy. The only drawback is it's away from the windows and more claustrophobic, but that might improve my lights and pictures.

Edit: finished last two Ghar suits, and went back and painted the ring around the main back power unit black. Also used the Vallejo sand mix to base 9 bases for these guys. They will be drying overnight and then I'll hit them with some washes which will make them look like the two terrain cds I made previously.

Robo-Crabs will look great all painted and based up! Yellow can be a pain, but it can also be rewarding.

The warm yellow on the mini and the yellow in the basing work well with the cool metallic color.
