So the skulls will be normal plastic. Well, I guess the real question is whether that's in fact true, or if it's Chinese plastic like those basing kits. The skulls on those are hardly as crisp as the ones in the Skeleton Warrior box. But so far we have no indication (that I'm aware of anyway) that the new skulls will be anything but a regular plastic kit.
The "Chinese plastic" is still polystyrene like the miniature kits, though.
Yeah,
Any lack of detail is down to either the master or the mold, not the material.
I'm pretty sure there are different types of HIPS. GW stuff is a lot softer than the brittle plastic in most scale model kits and the one they use for terrain seems to be even softer. I think there's a trade off somewhere between ability to hold sharp detail and durability. Or possibly how quickly it can be ejected from the mould or something.
At 15 quid, and assuming they are made and remain available from discounters, I can see myself buying a hideous amount of these.
While some folk seem put off by the "sci-fi" nature of the scatter plants, that's exactly why they appeal to me - I've wanted to do a Deathworld Jungle board ever since the 3rd Edition Catchans supplement, but I could never find stuff suitable for use as the ground-level fern-style plants to cover the stands for the bigger plants. There are vast amounts of options for more natural undergrowth out there, not so much wierd face-eating-tree style stuff.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

It's all the same material, as far as I'm aware, but there are different densities.
I've never noticed a difference in density between kits in recent years, though I have some older plastic kits (pre-2005 maybe) that are in a lighter grey that feel softer than the current plastic.
Higher density obviously is better for finer detail, and is more durable in larger pieces, but more brittle with smaller pieces. If, as far as I can tell, the density of Chinese and UK-produced kits is effectively identical then the difference in detail is down to poor mastering or mold degradation, not the plastic itself.

That's almost as cheap as Khorne gets them wholesale!
I would have preferred if there was a bit more variety on the vegetation sprues, but maybe they decided there were enough "realistic" plants available already.

IMOGW should use their plasti-fu to make more handy generic filler kits like these. It's always been a shame that they are 'the best' miniatures company out there, but there's always been a relatively sparse amount of terrain to set their minis on. If they would make slightly cheaper terrain kits, everyone would make amazing tables and that would probably pull more people into the hobby.

God that skull pack is such great deal.
For the same price as a Secret Weapon Pile O Skullz (including shipping) would cost me (or less at a discount), the GW skull pack has more than 4x as many human skulls and a bunch of gw-specific race skulls.
Yeah definitely going to pick one up. I don't see myself ever need 2, but definitely 1.
Should be able to pick up a box of the skulls for 35, not bad.

I can't find the original thread about the Deathworld terrain so I'll add this here, the Deathworld terrain is getting released as individual kits pre orders this week.
For those picking up the new vines and bracken this weekend...
