And here's our next new sculpt, the Dwarf Mechanic!

This will probably be the last sculpt we can afford to do before the campaign starts though, still have a lot of art work to get done.

She's not giving me much of a Dwarf vibe, doesn't stop it being a rather awesome mini though.

Maybe if she was using the wrench to open a keg it would look more dwarfy.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Eh, I think the problem is she just kinda looks like a short human woman. Hands and feet are a bit chunky, sure, but to an eyeball used to miniatures that are heroic scaled to one extent or another that's not enough to make her seem like a different species.

Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic quality sculpt, but for me if you want it to read as a Dwarf I'd say bump the hands & feet up even further in size, make her legs at least 1/3 shorter again, and make her a bit wider/thicker-limbed generally.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I like her. I'm not a big dwarf fan as I dislike most of their tropes and depictions in a lot of games so maybe my view here isn't that important. I like how your setting is not trying to just be stereotypes of the Fantasy Genre.

She might be the first mini in this campaign I am sure I want to buy. That is, if she is not cast in metal.

We're putting together the website for the game now, here it is so far:

https://www.skirmishgames.com/runerunners

I have some sample printed components on the way from the Game Crafter mostly just for demos, and some 3D printed minis, so I'll be taking photos of that and also putting together a how to play video next week. We also sent a round of prints to Angel for painting, he probably won't be able to get to them all before the campaign launches, but should be able to do a couple at least.

Tentatively planning to launch the Kickstarter on Tuesday, April 23rd! Looks like we are going to need $75,000 for our funding goal. Game will include 11 minis, 11 character cards/dashboards, 54 loot cards, 6 board tiles, a bunch of tokens and the rulebook. Retail price looks like it will be $65 and planning to make the KS price $50, just 1 simple pledge, no early birds or anything.

For stretch goals, we have 11 more characters planned that will get added into the core game for free for all backers. Still doing the math but the stretch goal will probably be a bit high because of the mold costs and the fact that they will be free instead of add-ons.

I'll post some photos of the sample components when I get them

What a coincidence, I just got a $50 gift card.......seems like destiny....

Any way to at least get a picture compilation of the models from your previews so we know what’s inside? Like the preview pics here throughout the thread, just collecting the few that will be included in the pledge.

How does buildings affect gameplay? What sort of board size is it on? I want to start building....something?

Yes we'll have all of the minis shown on the KS page and website. I was also thinking about trying to do a 3D movie with the minis spinning around, but might be tough since I'm still learning how Blender works.

So, this doesn't use terrain really. It's a board game, but also a skirmish game. Maybe Skirmish-lite? It's like if you used Zombicide minis and board tiles, but played it with equal 2 teams fighting each other and every mini was a unique hero. The tiles are 10x10", but with a 9x9 grid, you can lay them out however you want to create your own maps, or play one of the scenarios. There's also going to be an escalation type of campaign system where you start with just a few minis in each gang, and add a new recruit after each game.

But that said, there will be walls printed on the boards and obstacle templates like cars or bunches of crates, but we are trying to keep it simple and make it a game that average board gamers will like too, so there's no real terrain rules other than line of sight. Shoot what's in front of you, not through walls or obstacles. The object of the game isn't so much to take out the other team, but to grab as much loot as you can before time runs out. But you can steal loot from your enemies, or try to kill em and grab everything they are carrying.

Once our Gangfight skirmish rulebook is done, we'll put together a free PDF for how you can use the Runerunners minis for regular skirmish games with those rules. But as far as what you get in the box it's meant to be a quick playing, balanced and competitive game that has enough options to make every game a little different than the last.

Okay , I have tons of old DUST building parts which fit the 1920s era pretty well, so I was wanting to build a backdrop.

Do you mean the Blackwater Gulch minis? Those unfortunately are still in production, but production is back underway and I'm hoping they will be ready to go in the next month or 2. There were some unavoidable health issues that delayed the production. The original plan was to do Runerunners after, but I wanted to stay productive and was able to get Runerunners pretty much all ready to go during the downtime we ended up having.

I don't expect either project to delay the other, as both are being produced by different companies. Runerunners is going to be completely produced by Ludo Fact in Germany. They will be handling everything, and shipping the final shrink-wrapped copies directly to the warehouse.

Also learning from past mistakes, I'm going to be setting the Runerunners delivery date to be very far in advance, like next summer, just to be safe. Hoping it won't take nearly that long, but the production time from the moment I send them the final art files and everything arrives in the warehouse is about 6 months with a big chunk of that just shipping across the ocean on a boat.

Cool, Dust stuff will be a good fit

For future projects we aren't planning a wargame really, but if all goes well I'd like to follow up with another bigger boxed game that is more of a dungeon crawler feel, and have the same basic rules.. and the miniatures, boards and other components for either game will be fully compatible with each other.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Hope you and your family are doing well now.

No pressure on delivery--I just wasn't sure if it was supposed to arrive already and didn't, like my last Mantic and Heresylab pledges.

I believe from the updates on Kickstarter that it was the guy doing the casting who was having health issues. Thus Necros was able to sit around and finish up the ideas and work out the kinks for the board game.

Looking forward to getting my crews and book. Need to get back to making Cacti.

Yes, it was the company making the minis that had the delay, I'm still healthy.. although I think I just acquired my 7th spare tire, and subsequently upgraded to a quadruple chin.

Things are getting back on track now so all is well

Also, trying to decide how long to make the campaign. KS has been recommending lately that you make it shorter than 30 days. And I hate the lull in the middle. Was thinking 3 weeks, but wondering if 2 weeks might be better?

More than two weeks as some people only get paid twice a month.

Quick update. Decided to push the campaign back to Tuesday April 30. CMON is launching their next campaign on the 23rd, and and will likely be getting most of the KS board game attention that day. This will also give us time to finish up the videos and polish some other things, and hopefully give Angel some time to get an extra couple of minis painted up too.

Just another week to go till we launch!

We just finished putting together the preview rulebook.. Still a bit WIP, but should give you a good idea how to play. There's a link to download it on our website

https://www.skirmishgames.com/runerunners

Over the next few days we'll be putting together a how to play walkthrough summary that we'll be using on the Kickstarter page. Unfortunately we won't have time to get a video produced at the moment, but will hopefully be able to do a full playthrough video soon.

I think you might be able to follow me on Kickstarter, and you will get an email when the campaign launches if that's easier. I'll also be posting here when it launches too of course

Working on the Kickstarter page now. Here's a preview!

What do you all think? Anything unclear?

I don't think I'll have time to make a how to play video, so what I was planning to do is put together a kind of walk through / summary with visual aids and make that be the very first update post. I'll also be adding more photos of the game, samples of loot cards, etc and making the what's included bullet list into a graphic

I know there’s not a lot that can be done with shipping costs, but $15 shipping on a $50 game is rough in the US and even more for worldwide shipping is going to hurt there as well.

Also will there be add ons? None were listed and your needing to sell 1500 copies is going to be a hard slog with no add in extras. Maybe you should consider doing a PDF add on of your other games (no shipping or stocking to deal with).

Yeah, unfortunately the shipping price can't be helped. I'm hoping the costs don't get even higher before it ships. I could just not list the shipping prices so people don't get scared away, but that feels a little dishonest.

I was thinking about including the Gangfight skirmish rulebook as an addon, but I was going to add that later like mid-way through the campaign. And it would come with a PDF about how to adapt those rules to play runerunners as a skirmish game instead of board game.. but I wanted the board game to me the main focus especially on day 1, and not confuse people. I suppose I could offer a free PDF of the gangfight rules too though, and add-on for the book if someone wants the hard copy.

I wish the funding goal wasn't so high, but can't be avoided. Technically I only need about half that to actually produce the game, but there is a lot of artwork that still needs to be done and also need to cover the cost of advertising and other fees. I know there's some campaigns that will have a lower goal and then hope to make the money they need with higher stretch goals, but I don't think that's the best idea since it could backfire.

I also thought about adding in a Create your own runerunner pledge level, where people would pay a lot to add their own character to the game, we'd sculpt it and release it later on. It would have to be a kind of high pledge though to cover the cost of sculpting, art and production. Probably $500, maybe a bit more.

Thank you for being honest with the shipping costs. It seems like too many KS campaigns like to leave that for an unpleasant surprise.

So, will we be able to buy the individual miniatures at any time?

For the time being the minis will only be available in the boxed game in PVC.

I do have plans to offer them separately in resin but it will be quite a while. If things go well enough with this campaign I hope to be able to invest in several 3D printers and set up a kind of print on demand service for all of my miniatures, where people can order them in any size/scale from 15mm to 54mm. Gotta get this campaign funded first though to be able to afford that

It's a shame the resin minis are on the back-burner for now (not much interest in PVC ones), but good luck with your Kickstarter!

Since a lot of folks have been asking, we decided to add a pledge level for separate resin minis too after all.
