Actually, if it resulted in plastic models for Armageddon steel legion, I would probably say "fine, whatever you say GW"
Yeah, but if they did that, why would they make Steel Legion instead of putting all that plastic towards Kronophlux Pattern Primaris Interventors?

Considering how bad RoP is performing, it wouldn't surprise me if the LotR sales did not meet expectations. Which is a shame, because it means the playerbase will not get the attention that the game system needs to flourish.
Got a source for the claim regarding how RoP is performing, out of interest?
One of the problems with these streaming shows is that it is always tricky to get an idea how they've done in terms of viewership.

I reckon LotR stuff always sells well outside of the usual 40k/AoS gaming communities, people who just love the setting and collect some to paint, maybe game. The fact that they keep releasing sets I think shows this to be the case, otherwise they would just 'do a warhammer fantasy'
On topic the special release mini is pretty cool. They have already done a Rogue Trader cover marine, but perhaps they could have had a bit more fun with it. Squats have been re-released and brought things full circle, why not have a Votann chewing on a cigar and holding a anti-grav board or something (ref the old artwork), could have had him stood over the body of a Slann to really get the community doing 360s!

A modern re-imagining of Sister Sin and the Rainbow Warrior would have been pretty hype.

There's a designer interview article on Warhammer Community:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/09/28/designing-bayards-revenge-how-this-stunning-commemorative-miniature-came-to-life/
Nice to see the model has a helmet option.
I wonder about this part, though:
I felt he also deserved a bare head, a nod to the first Emperor’s Champion, Sigismund.
Is that because the face resembles art or Sigismund's 30k model, or because Sigismund is portrayed as a dimwit who doesn't wear a helmet to battle?

That helmet is awesome. Why couldn't the stand alone kit have a helmet that cool? At the very least, they should have made the laurel part of the helmet and not floating above it. This one looks 100x better

It's not a bad look. I like the traditional helmet a little better, both the first limited edition one's and the following Emperor's Champion's. But I'd gladly take this one as well. And agreed, that floating laurel on the normal Primaris one is just stupid.

I wonder if you'll be able to make the model without the ork. It appears as though the sword might be complete and not terminate where it enters the ork.

At a guess I'd say that's an illusion created by a wide wound to allow some of the sword inside the body to show. I don't think it will have a tip but a flat end that sits flush against the flat bottom of the wound. Would be neat if the sword turns out to be complete, though.
I couldn't make it out in the video very well, but if my suspicion is correct and depending on where the inscription ends, you might be able to cut down the blade to get a tip without losing part of the inscription and making the sword look dodgy in the process.

If it's like helbrecht, the sword fits into a recess on the orks torso.

Here's my slightly whacky prediction linked to most of the starter set artwork (as well as weirdly the ultramarine 2nd edition codex artwork) in that preview.
Like the 3rd edition box set, they will make all the old edition box sets available for made to order over the next year... In addition, maybe some of the old codex's, especially the lore heavy 2nd edition codex's.

Wouldn't that be fun? 2nd ed starter set, 20 Marines, 20 Orks, 40 Gretchin. 80 models repeating a total of five and a half sculpts, all for the bargain price of 225€.
And no, you're not going to get the cardboard Dreadnought. Don't even ask. GW doesn't make cardboard components in house and an external printer only cuts into their profits.

2nd box would be dope. The books included there were great with detailed weapon descriptions. Can´t have this nowadays: "NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THIS!"

2nd was a highpoint for fluff and setting, but those starter box models were a bit lacking.
They did a 3rd ed starter MTO a little bit back
4th had some good stuff. Basic tac squad, downed flyer, and some fun nid bits.
Bang for buck, the 5th ed starter was a great box. And one i missed picking up.
6/7th suffered from being chapter locked on the loyalist side to DA, so less general appeal. Chaos was nice looking, no idea how well it holds up with modern rules/sculpts.
8th seems to recent to talk about nostalgia reprints, but the marine side was a solid core of an army. Can’t speak for the DG.

Those were mostly copied from the Battle Manual book from 1st edition. The models were... not what I would call good. And several of those Blanche sketches really looked like they were drawn on the floor in one day (read it somewhere he really did).

I'd certainly be up for buying some MTO Rogue Trader plastics or even 2nd Edition minis. Just an MTO run for the Rogue Trader reprint rulebook directly on the GW website would be something.
I absolutely doubt there would ever be a re-run of any of the previous starter boxes, or 2nd edition or later rulebooks.
2nd had I think three or four books in the starter box, besides a half dozen different templates and datafax cards and then there's the entirely separate Dark Millennium box which had the rest of the vehicles and psyker rules as well as a whole separate card system.

i'd heard some discussion about print to order when China started to fail to deliver in a big way, apparently GW just wasn't satisfied with the printing fidelity/reproducible colour balance offered
(i've a variety of print to order books and while it's good to have a hard copy they aren't as good as a well done traditional printing, especially for colour plates so i'd have to agree with GW there)
and i'd guess they might be wary of having the files more out in the wild than they'd be at a traditional printer too
