Thanks Flinty! It was a fun one to do. I'm going to see if I can track down a few more of the old dragons now.

I really wasn't in a painting mood this month, but thanks to this challenge I still got one model finished, not sure I would have done otherwise. So here is my entry for the month, Captain America

Well here is my Official Entry, with the theme being Ascended, I chose the big-man Morty himself! I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish him, in addition to the Council of the Death Lord & DG Combat Patrol I picked up. But lo and behold, I was able to knock the entire set-up I acquired, with a day to spare!

Without further ado:

Thanks all for the motivation, and the awesome mini's you have posted!
Update: Total Painted in January

A Protoss colony world

Took me all month, but I got Master Lazarus done. Here are the final pics:

He's ascended in multiple ways: Becoming an Astartes in the first place, becoming the Master of the Fifth Company after the death of his predecessor, Master Balthazar (and thus becoming a member of the Inner Circle), and crossing the Rubicon Primaris to become the first Primaris member of the Inner Circle. I had a lot of fun working on this guy and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. He'll fit in nicely with my other Dark Angels.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

Just wanted to say, I really enjoyed reading that - fascinating stuff, makes me want to dig into WW2 air combat!

Cheers Michael. There’s sooooo much more where that came from, over in the showcase forum I have a WW2 air gallery filled with historical factoids and tiny painted planes. I’m a bit fascinated myself.
If it puts you in mind for a Burrows and Badgers themed air-war spin off game I’m totally on board. Imagine fighter squadrons of pigeons defending big geese and heavy swan bombers! What could be better?!

Eeek, that’s as old as me! Wish I was painted that nicely. Great stuff. The wings especially.

This is a gargoyle!

I was trying to go for a red marble effect, but it’s just not quite how I imagined it, but I’m at a loss of how to do it differently. Still, another one off the pile o’ shame (at least until I figure out a different method!)

I must confess that only finished half of my submission. so hopefully this still counts. A poor soul that has 'ascended' a little too hard into a chaos spawn.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

I've been mildly thwarted by drying time, and they need a decoration on the base, but hopefully I can get some better photos of 5 of these tomorrow morning in daylight

Anyway - pleased with how these have turned out. Very different from what I usually paint, i.e. much less colourful than normal!

The green texturing came out really well! Churned mud would also seem to be a suitable basing scheme for stompy robots anyway

Here we go, a Clan Ghost Bear Heavy Omnimech Star

Left to right - Mad Dog (Vulture) Hellbringer (Loki) Dire Wolf (Daishi) Summoner (Thor) Timber Wolf (Loki)

About face!

Eyes left! I painted the heat sinks on the Dire Wolf's arms as having a bit of an internal glow. All that energy weaponry is going to run hot.

Eyes right! Mech numbers on each leg taken and chopped up from an old Cadian transfer sheet.

Because nothing sucks quite as much as getting bombed by an overenthusiastic Snow Raven who doesn't have the latest IFF codes, they all have clan markings on their top surfaces. Self printed transfers - worked well, but I need to get some matt varnish on there to dull down the decal solvent.

A classic 'mech - the Timber Wolf (or Madcat to you Inner Sphere heathens). Camo was airbrushed, cockpit glass is Soulstone Blue. It's quite a change for me to paint stuff that isn't brightly coloured, but I think it worked well. these are some very old Iron Wind Metals models

I couldn't figure out a way of painting the missile bays on the Mad Dog that wouldn't look awful, so I just went with the assumption that they've got movable armoured covers. Lenses, PPCs etc have a little bit of a glow, but I tried to avoid metal as much as possible and go for a dark green colour for gun barrels which weren't shrouded.

Quite pleased with them - will finish off the Light Star and the Elemental Star and post them to the Battletech Alpha Strike thread.

Thanks Para! Don't think you've announced the winners from last month yet, btw.

I'm still three or four days away from having anything complete, so nothing from me this month. Lots of great stuff here, though, looking forward to the vote!

Here's my Final Photos, think they turned out quite well but only noticed when putting the photos together I'd completely missed the eyes! Also I tired painting a dark Marble effect on the base for the first time, came out ok but not brilliant, glad I tired it though.

I kept managing to break these guys when moving them around, so took me ages to photos them. Think I will need to pin them to the bases later.
