Have to decide which to enter for the contest. Probably the classic 5, or maybe the 4 non-jedi? Thoughts?
I think the four non-Jedi are the best of the group.

Sorry to disappoint, but I hadn't even considered that. I really need to focus on getting the painting done. Plus the figure's chibi-ness means that there isn't much room on its back for mecha bits. I'll keep the Challenge's fondness for mecha-dinos in mind in future though.
Progress so far:

That idea takes me back to one of my childhood favorite shows on tv; Dinoriders. I think I even had some action figures of it.

Anyway a precisionknife can cut a ridge over its back to put a cannon on, good cannons would prolly be some knight cannon (of any type) from a bits box.
Just some ideas.
edit: Omg I just had the coolest idea.. wish there was a retro-scifi setting warhammer heh..
Maybe we can do a -retro-scrifi- theme sometime in the challenges, meaning; to make your mini look as retro as possible (any mini ofc, doesn't have to be a robot)

Hmm, there are a bunch of ways to spin that.
Just straight “retro” is pretty open, and can cover anything from oldhammer minis, to retro-pulp sci-fi.
"Futures of days past” I think would be more focused on retro sci-fi. It get the concept of doing something that was futuristic 20-100 years ago. Rockets to the moon, tripod walkers, sci-fi/post apocalyptical stuff set in the distant year 2000. Problem is it’s a little too focused (I like to keep the option for people who only paint fantasy to have a place) and that technically all of 40k fits.
“80’s cartoon” Would probably need a better name. Paint something that would not look out of place in a cheesy 80s Saturday morning cartoon. One that probably had a toy line associated with it. Do a re-paint of one of the actual toy, or a modern mini from a game based on the franchise. Would defiantly cover robot dinosaurs
Added to the topic bank for potential use later.

No, it was painted with airbrush. I painted the whole area red, then I cut out the symbol from masking tape, glued it to the model and painted the remaining area white.
Nevelon - maybe instead of 80's cartoon make it any cartoon? I have a fire truck from Paw Patrol to convert into Adeptus Mechanicus utility vehicle to use as terrain. Or maybe just "paint a toy", that would be cool too.
Meanwhile the Elefant got the crew and part of tracks. I learned the hard way that when the manual says you should glue track before assembling the upper part, it should be built that way. It is much more difficult now, but not impossible.

I really like the boba fett on that star wars diorama, yoda looks a bit out of place due to the saturation and brightness of the green imho but that's no dunking of the piece, its really awesome.
Anyway, I have decided to retouch my entry and will update the pics in a moment.

If it's not tooooo late to join, after a long dry spell of painting I'd like to try and finally give getting my Wraithcubi painted a go.
I forgot to take a photo today before starting to undercoat it, so here's a shot of it being sprayed black just now, and the pre-undercoat photo from when I build the thing in... oh god. 2022!

29 months? Those are rookie numbers. You gotta get those up!
The age of stuff in my primed pile, much less the Pile of Shame, is kinda crazy. I do try to chip away at the older stuff. At least a few a year from the oldest stock.

Awesome stance and bash, I actually just thought of something similar a few days ago (and why I just ordered a new wraithlord) but moreof in the Harlequin camp rather than Drukhari.
Looking forward to the end result of your Wraithcubi.

Part of me moving stuff from the primed pile to the paintbench is taking a big soft brush and getting rid of the cobwebs.

Yeah, there's a primed pile, and a WIP pile. Oldest of the WIP pile is about 20 years old now and only needs about an hour's work to finish... must get round to that one day! :/
Anyway. Lunchtime, a listening-only meeting and drybrushes have made for some pretty good progress on the Wraithcubi already. It has raised a question about basing though.
I'd made a nice scenic base for him to stand on, but it feels like he's now in an Alas Poor Yorick type pose.
On a flatter base he potentially looks way more menacing...

Did you cut those horns their texture yourself? A-w-e.
As for his stance, Can't you just put his other foot on the risen platform to make him bend forward the way you prefer him to? He does look better that way.

Thanks! The horns were some free ones from Thingiverse that were intended for cosplay. One blender session later and they were Wraithlord scale!
I had a play with poses and I can get him stepping over the junk on the base. This actually works quite nicely as the loincloth touches the terrain, so it looks like it's being swept out of the way as it moves. Automatically Appended Next Post: @Geifer, that dinosaur looks excellent! Would not want to meet in a dark alley!

I have to admit I am very, very pleased with how this guy turned out. I spent a lot of time on him and I think I’ve been rewarded for my persistence although, as always, there’s always things you can spot you want to keep adjusting or trying to refine.
So, here is my Absolute Unit… his name is Sir BigBash.

Hopefully this works, shared via gallery…
Managed to get much better pics after using a better camera!
