I am looking to a rough rider squadron or two to my guard army and I have a couple of questions.

1) Should you replace the laspistol or the CCW with the hunting lance?

2) Assuming I select to replace the CCW how many attacks on the charge do I get? I know I get 1 base plus 1 for the charge but I am not sure if I get an additional one for the laspistol.

3) Is the vet sergent upgrade worth the points?

4) What is the optimal unit size?

Thanks

1) I replace the CCW, never know when I might want to shoot something (one day ) and 2) no you cant use a pistol or CCW with a lance (I think its in the riders entry.)
3) I like him, cheap and an extra attack with the lance.
4) Usually have 5-7 riders, enough force to hurt on the charge but still easy to hide.

As to your questions...

It doesn't really matter whether you replace the pistol or the close combat weapon. On most turns you will probably be using fleet of hoof to either close in faster or skedattle out of enemy LOS.

You lose the extra attack for two weapons w/ the lance.

The vet sgt upgrade does two nice things. It ups his attacks w/ the lance and increases the unit's base leadership.

Optimal size depends on how you use and equip them. Most people think six is about right. I prefer eight.

I hope that's not one unit, because if it is then it's illegal.  If you take Hunting Lances you must equip the entire squadron and therefore may not take either the flamers or the shotgun.
