Interesting. Considering that my scores were 20-0, 17-3, 20-0, 20-0 and 17-3, I wonder how I got 80 battle points. Hmmmm - someone mistyped that one quite a bit. Alas, no big deal anyway. Shaun still would have won overall.

Sportsmanship scores are now completely useless, that's a shame.  Out of 234 players, only two didn't get a perfect sportsmanship score, but I heard lots of players complaining about their opponents over lunch on Saturday.  I hope something gets implemented to promote good sportsmanship (or rather, punish poor sportsmanship) in the future.

Based on the data, it appears that the last ranked 40K player didn't even bring an army, but was a good sport about it.

I think part of the problem is that people just mark the paper with the max score, just for the hell of it and really don't care. therefore, you have 95% people getting the same score. OR everyone that played were great people. it can happen.

Sports and comp scores are for sissies. I'm all for people being forced to behave in a civil manner, and that's exactly what this sort of score does. If you want that to affect your overall ranking in a WARGAME tournament, well, perhaps your a bit lame.

For real. I see one for the ringer fine. But statictically wouldn't it be quite difficult to get a "0" absent an illegal list or something?

Selection was +5 points for turning in a roster to the judges and +6 points for turning in your 200+ word fluff.

They award points now for typing fluff? WTF? It's a miniature tournament, not a creative writing assignment....

I don't know what they wanted to achieve from that either, other than punishing people who didn't fully read the rules-pack before showing up.

Wait I thought you had to turn in a list. So the "o"s didn't turn in a list?

I was always under the impression that Sportsmanship should be judged by the judges, you leave that discission in the hands of opponents and you are asking for partial results.

This scoring system sounds like what I think was used at last year's UK GT. (I wasn't there but Torgoch could confirm it.)

Sports meant nothing. Fluff based on a written description of the army list. The points that counted were for winning games. There was a quiz to resolve ties.

Whilst ideally judges should do sports scores, it seems difficult to achieve given they can't observe the whole of every game. Anyway haven't there been complaints about the quality of judges? Perhaps it's not practical.

I don't think you can compel people to be good sports. Sportsmanship seems to me to be a combination of basic temperament and upbringing. By the time you're and adult you have it to a greater or lesser degree, and that's that.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Overall I think the way sportsmanship was done was fine.  The system to me was set up like it was so that you don't play one person who gets mad because you beat them and so they take it out on your soft scores which will take you out of the running for first as well.  However if you are being an a*s and more then one person felt that way then your sports score would take a beating.  Overall I had a great time against all of my opponents.

I didn't like the rubric for judging painting.  That I feel should have been left to the judges.

If you'll notice for the army selection category, you either got an 11, 5, or a 0. There was no in-between points there. Now, I'm not sure how they graded it, but it appears it was done upon registration because the core-cards only graded for appearance and if you had a good game or not.

For Sportsmanship, technically, you can take two "hits" to your good-game score before being penalized in battle-points, so they left alot of room for just a bad-game-with-one-person affecting your day.

I was amazed at the Sportsmanship scores myself, but it was good to see that most everyone got high marks; was a shame not to see an award for it though, however, I have to admit that the GT was one of the most competitive I've been to.

My Saim-Hann army stumbling out of the block like that in the first day made for a bad day for me; but my second day was much better. I ended up ranking a lowly 126, which was far below my normal capabilities...my army had match-up problems on the missions we rolled for and add a bit of unluck to the dice rolling and there you have it...massacre central...lol! I did enjoy myself though no matter how bad the day got, but I got to talk with some other Saim-Hann players for comp advice and look at some interesting armies....not a bad weekend at all!

Yeah, it's the same as the old UK system.

They've removed sportsmanship from the UK completely now. Refs deduct points instead now.

I think the internet community has created the word 'lame' now as a legitimate word to describe dislike.  It has nothing to do with sexual preferences.

Looks like sportsmanship and composition should just be eliminated completely.  Like I mentioned, everyone got a 20 pretty much for sportsmanship, and I think with the system anyone who doesn't get a 20 is probably someone who should get kicked out of the tournament.  Composition is just an unfair penalty to those who didn't write fluff for their army, and has nothing to do with playing games at all.  They should probably go with only battle points, then, and rely on everyone keeping their composure for a good time.

Painting should be done by the judges.  And they should definitely bring back the army features.  A lot of players went to the tournament just for the hope of having their army photographed and put up on the website, and since it wouldn't have a severe effect on the overall winners, it should be encouraged.

The points awarded for selection is disappointing to say the least. It really has nothing to do with the actual composition of an army. Oh well.

the judges were not entirely well versed in the rules.
a friend of mine was playing against Godzilla Bugs and was happy that It was escalation as the bugs were arriving piecemeal. he told his opponent that he needed to make an Instinctive Behaviour check on his Carnifex, he did, got an 11 and THEN decided to question the rule. they  got a judge over, and the judge said that they didn't need to make an Instinctive Behaviour check. the Carnifex shot up his Demonettes and really altered the game.

Later, he went to the judge to show him the rule (and complain) but the judge was adamante that they don't take IB checks.
(At the end of Games Day, he came up and apologized that he was wrong.)

that seems like a well known and easily ruled situation, its been talked about for a while now, so i dont know how an "official" judge misses that.

also: what were the prizes for 1st place ? i heard it was just some plaque ? 143 player at 90$ a head is 12,870$... thats a lot of $$$ so i would think that the prizes would be a bit more then some plaque.
