But then they couldn't ridiculously milk you for all the money they possibly could.

The sole reason for a seperate book is:

That way it was much easier to focus on the two existing factions and balancing them out. SSU was still not final when the book was written and instead of rushing it, it was prefered to wait until the SSU are gold and then balancing them out with the rest. Also this gives us more space for each faction to write about.

Hmm and technically the Dust Warfare book was suppose to come out months ago right? It just got so delayed that both books ended up getting really close

So you can get the Zverograd book for DW for $20, but if you want the models, you gotta get the DT expansion also for $45? So, around $65 just to start playing the SSU? Or do you not need the DT expansion and you can just build your army from other models also available?

Correct me if I'm wrong but what models in question are we talking about? Every campaign expansion for DT comes with one or two exclusive minis sure but thats not a whole army.

Unless you meant the specific rules for DT in which case yes I believe you need the DT Expansion to get things like Fliers and etc

I posted before I had my coffee .. what I meant was, do we need to buy the DT expansion box set that has the 2 figures in it if we want to start a SSU army for DW? Or are there heroes and other models available separately if we just wanted to buy the book?

There will be a SSU hero boxed set with three heroes. A commissar, girl with grenade launcher and another guy IIRC.

You technically dont, unless you really like the stats. You could play any army with just generics right?

Dust Warfare FAQ is up. Not perfect but they covered a lot.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

There a way to hide backgrounds in PDFs? FFG likes wasting my ink for some reason.

Well - you need a pdf editor, either a free one or the Adobe full version.
If FFG has blocked editing even that will not help.

BTW - This is EXACTLY the reason, why all of my books come in two versions:
- a full colour version with many high quality pictures of fully painted models and
- a mostly B&W printer friendly version.

Those helicopters are the first models for DUST that I don't like.

They look a little too toy-like...

Still, the rest is great!

This ^^, plus small stumpy helicopters, are smaller targets. Some of the newer real life transport combat helicopter, follow the same design concepts.

FFG just announced and released a nice battlemat (24.95$ limited supply):
http://store.fantasyflightgames.com/productdetails.cfm?SKU=DTSN27
A Whole New Battlefield
Introducing the Dust Tactics Premium Playmat, Available Now
FFG, 15th June

An explosion sent rubble flying through the air. Shards of concrete ripped through sandbags and flesh. This was it. There wasn’t time to reconsider. Sgt. Johnson leveled his barrel and began to fire. He could see bullets sparking off the walker’s armor, but it wasn’t slowing down. Its every step thundered along the battlefield…

The new Dust Tactics Premium Playmat allows players to take their games of Dust Tactics and Dust Warfare to a whole new battlefield! Available now through our Dust Tactics Premium webstore, the top-quality Dust Tactics Premium Playmat allows you to maneuver your armies across a durable and attractive 33” x 22” play surface.

Advanced Reconnaissance

Every good general seeks to gain the full measure of the battlefield, so here’s more information about the newest terrain at the center of the furious combats in the alternate-reality World War II of Dust Tactics and Dust Warfare.

- This 33” x 22” x 1/8” playmat weighs twenty-seven ounces, enough to keep it from sliding around, making it a stable surface for your games.
- The dual-sided playmat features a nine-by-six grid for the board game action of Dust Tactics and an identical, gridless surface for the intense tabletop battles of Dust Warfare.
- You can combine two Dust Tactics Premium Playmats to form the same twelve-by-nine grid available from the two fold-out maps from the Revised Core Set, but on a more durable surface.

Bring Your Battles to Life

With the Dust Tactics Premium Playmat and the three-dimensional structures from the Building Accessory Pack and Operation “Cerberus,” you can more clearly envision the dramatic action and high-stakes skirmishes of Dust Tactics and Dust Warfare. Infantry and combat walkers fire at each other along the coast, between warehouses in the docks of southern England, or in the streets of Zverograd.

I got into Dust Tactics with the starter set two years ago, and now it sits unused, as it took awhile for them to come out with anything new, and really nothing is calling me now, I cannot really justify the cost to a game that the mini's seem all alike...

I also was rather sceptical with the helicopter. I got the box as a present and in real life it looks better than on the pictures. As for the 40k-vehicles, you have to ignore the soldier-vehicle-relation .
But I like the style, it fits to the rest of the army. I wanted to skip the russians as I still have a lot to paint, but now I got several boxes...
And I am happy that -at least- the SSU figures are packed in bigger plastic bags, therefore the weapons, arms etc... are not bent as the Axis and Allied figures were. I hope FFG will replace the tiny bags there aswell!

....so play Dust Warfare.

And no one is stopping anyone from modelling the game pieces - I saw a guy do Poles with wings and stuff recently. They aren't multi-part kits, but ingenuity goes a long way.

Might be something for Dust-models.com to look into maybe, aftermarket heads for the various non-gasmasked squads.
