I'm told if I bring pods to one more local RTT I'll be stoned to death by the mob.

So to get me through until Eldar are out, back to shooty marines!

Master in terminator armor, claws, 4 man command squad, 2 cannons, furious charge, chainfist, auspex

Epistolary in terminator armor, fury, fear, 4 man command squad, 2 cannons, furious charge, auspex

6 devs with 3 missilelaunchers, tank hunter

8 devs with 3 heavy bolters and a plasma cannon, infiltration

4X5 las/plas

tornado

3 whirlwinds.

I have to paint nothing but two whirlwind launchers (to stick on top of existing rhinos).

Bring it!

(Against a good opponent, I should lose of course. )

I agree... and as you said it would require a good player to pull it off.

Shooty Marines Are LIFE!!!

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Sure. And when I do I play Fantasy or Warmachine.

When the new Eldar codex is out I'll make a tournament army for that. But until then, I'm not interested in spending the time remodelling any of my existing armies to make them competitive.

Just seems like you lack mobility when you will need it.

Are you going to be using the minefields the Whirlwinds can toss out?

22 Heavy Weapons mixed w/ infiltrating and deep striking units. It looks like it will be a war on two fronts for your opponent.
How do you deal with things like Lictors tieing up your units? There's no real counter assault elements and no Vets w/ Powerfists in squads. This list looks like castling would be key and some guaranteed to get into assault throw away units seem to really hurt this.

Many are in the same boat as you; waiting for the Eldar codex to start some new crazy builds.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Lictors aren't a threat on any normal table. Just fill the terrain with your models and they can't drop in.

I realize I lack some mobility, but in objective missions I'm peppering the objectives with minefileds all game.

Really nice list, but I'm surprized by the lack of assault cannons and the inclusion of the Devastators.

If I were going to run 3 Whirlwinds and wanted to bring it to a tournament I figue I might run something like this:

Master Commander - PW + Storm Shield
Epistolary, Terminator Armor, Fury, Fear - 4 Termy Retinue w/ 2 Cannons, Chainfist, Tankhunters
5 Terminators, 2 Cannons, Chainfist
5 Terminators, 2 Cannons
4x5 Las/Plas
3x1 Tornado
3 Whirlwinds

Figure the Commander can provide a small counter assault force for the Tac marines, and if you're really worried about facing an assault army then just have the whirlwinds drop mines in front of your squads all game while they face your firepower on the way in.

Then again if you're stopping pods because people are getting upset with it then this might not be the best idea since it's another evil Assault Cannon based Marine army.
