In retrospect, I wish I'd made Dobbs (the blue one) a stetson, a la Jim Ross (because Elmer, the red one, reminds me of Jerry "The King" Lawler). And, thanks, on both counts. shasolenzabi wrote:that 1940's style Red-Hood is looking awesome!
I adore the model, so thanks. I need to get a shot of him on my ace chemicals alongside the 40s roadster I picked up (maybe from Briancj? He sent me a lot of cars). Getting it means I'm only missing 2 BMG promos now (shirtless Bane and Gaslight Batman), although I still have Bombshell Harley, Beach Joker and Nolanverse Alfred to build and paint. There's not many BMG figs that I actively want that I don't have (just BTAS stuff, really), but as the original promo for the game I was desperate for him. Dr H wrote:Good work on the many things. Thanks old son. Definitely inspired by you master builders out there So, I built this because my kids suck at rolling dice, mostly! I wanted something that could legitimately be used as a scenic element in really any game I play, even for mounting Dreadball commentators on. It's built from all sorts but mostly 2 smoothie boxes, some deadzone bits and assorted crud from my bits box. The launcher has an LED inside with the trans blue coming from Dreadball sprues and is otherwise made from a Smarties tube and further miscellaneous rubbish. The posters all nod to games and other sci-fi/cult favourites. Enjoy all the Food for Thought ! What would I change about it? I don't know. I mean the LoeR contest ends on the 14th July (linky in sig); although I'm away 30th-10th, sometimes a bit of distance is not a bad thing. I'm considering seeing if the wife, or one of the school's textile teachers, have got a bit of scrap felt in the sewing box, just as there's a bit too much bounce as dice hit the bottom right now. Still wondering if there's enough tags on it - joker smile on the gordon poster, HA! on the Gotham Knights poster, a rebel bird one of the imperial propaganda posters - on but couldn't miss out on another 2000AD reference. And testing how it looks for different systems: BMG 40k Don't fancy that Aggressor's chances much... Street Wars Gaslands Oh, and in other news, got a further layer of yellow down on the Vespas: Started the cloaks but still really torn as to what colour the mariachis themselves are going to be. I mean probably black, tbh, but I wonder if another colour mightn't look better... They have to be done for 25th, as that's the Gaslands monthly contest end date. Always leave the most immediate project till last! A mate has asked me to paint his Grindelwald for HPMAG. I'm not fussed by Fantastic Beasts stuff, either in game or generally, but it's a nice enough sculpt and it's a chance to get the new two-face in exchange. Bonus Hey ho, graven

Looking forward to seeing this! It's taken a not insignificant amount of willpower not to pick up either that mini or the equally ludicrous Half Blood Prince version of Dumbledore and you don't see nearly enough of the HPverse minis out there online.

Well, notice the bloody smear on the Lord's base in the next pic... That's actually one of my son's models. The big summer project is getting the boys to get on with painting their stuff and playing, of course.
I'm not sure how I feel about the great big HP minis. I don't have the Double-door, which makes him one of the only HP characters I'm missing. The Credence model is proper nuts with the Obscurious.

Why on earth did I decide to freehand stripes? I think I'm just going to go for the central one, as it is.
Started on the trophy for my eldest, as the Ultimate champion
This means they've each got their own trophy to use as a score tracker.
And now, kids, SCIENCE!
I got hold of some interesting Gaslands bits from kitbashbox which are "Rustable"
Add to vinegar and salt...
Straight away you can see the reaction starting. That was 7am, we'll see how they are after 8 hours in pickling vinegar.

Yup. I swear we were optimistic in our youth. Glad you like the setup Still, in the meantime, more work on the Vespas. They're nearly there, though better pics needed. Playing with BMG playmat-as-lightbox. Much happier with the single stripe. And playing also with the rusty goodness, that are now officially named Rustables I did a thing One end in vinegar for 8 hrs, then rinsed off Then about 4/5 in Salt and vinegar (crispy!): Hopefully here you can see the contrast between being in once and being in twice. Interestingly, the barrels don't seem to have really "rusted" as much, although there is some metal coming through. I suspect it's something to do with the porousness of the resin, which is different for the barrels.

Theophony wrote:The Vespa banditos make me laugh they are so good The rustable rails are interesting, I’ll have to take another look later as I’m on the fence so to speak. Thanks my friend. The Vespas have been fun - eventually. As for the rust. It's just oxidising iron powder. Attach with PVA I showed them to a cosplayer chum and he got VERY excited lol. I'm really looking forward to the kitbashbox shipping containers, myself. Here's the barrels, after a scratch and second soak. Much better. Interesting that the white resin with the oxidising powder is much subtler. Don't fancy that truck's chances much. Well now. My birthday has gone well. From Mantic. Big box Damn those are some pretty figs. 35mm, great sculpts, minimal flash. From the mighty Cam: a whole pile of Gaslands! I've added a couple of numbers to make race gates. And started to build more from some of them: Although I might make the lower gates something other than pickups. Just for visual variety. Also some BMG! Falcone crime family, with lovely scenic base. I mean Legitimate businessmen, oh yes. More nerdy bits to follow. Some Dreadball coming, I've been led to believe ... I'm a lucky lad. I also added some felt to the bottom of the dice tower. Bounce duly minimised So good stuff going on. Nearly July, so nearly off on my holidays. Have loaded up my tablet with a year's worth of comic TPBs that I've not managed to read (difficult keeping track of single issues, which given that I read most DC titles is hard enough), looking forward to ten days of beer, meat and ridiculous sunshine. Happy days, graven

So yes, thank you all.
Sorry for brief moment of quiet, just preparing y'all for the coming fortnight
However I got an amazing few extra mail drops in the week: Bird (Bane's right-hand man) and Mercs for BMG, 1 1/2 plagueburst crawlers for - one to build straight, one to... customise (yet another bloody project planned), a couple of KS exclusives from 2nd edition Dreadball including the Ultimate deck that's never had a retail release and a whole bunch of Dreadball teams which, naturally, have leapfrogged up the paint queue. All wips, of course.
Promo 1st Ed Blaine
Not started the 2nd ed promo yet.
Convicts
I do like painting orange. Still a couple more to begin.
Rejects, part one
With promo coach part one as I have another full set of these (giving me a full size, every option team).
In retrospect I wish I'd painted the bases.
A mars attacks big bug
Which is getting rules for DBU in July. Joy of getting matey with the playtest team however I idiotically used superglue for attaching the helmet without thinking
Playing about also with one of the translucent teams:
I'm totally tempted to paint over them - the captain is grey plastic, so he's part of the test - and go for "glow" effects but if nothing else, they're pitch ready right now.
And started the second type of dugout for Ultimate
That'll be blue alright then. Might do yellow this way too, then look for more bits for green and orange.
I also got a slightly belated present from the wife (because Amazon is cheeky) a cantilever toolbox to use a Gaslands "Garage".
Brilliant thing, very solid, holds an enormous amount of toy cars, tokens, etc. Bloody fantastic.
So all set for a summer of fun
See you in a couple (though I'll still be about the boards, obviously)

More progress on the Gates for Gaslands
So adding arrows and no entries, as I like to remind my kids which way they're supposed to be going round the track
And other gates
Is it obvious what that no entry's going to be?
Green is going to be a lot more varied, obviously. This is just the start. The cars previously marked Gate 1 will become Gate 4 (getting my gates muddled, tsk tsk).
Off on hols tomorrow!
Adiós!

Oh they're really nice. The other transparent team, the Crystallans, are also pretty. No idea how I'm going to do those. Maybe glowy rock monsters. The teratons are fab - in fact the first team I bought after the 2nd ed starter - my eldest really likes playing them, although we have no prone players. Need some mario shells
Meanwhile, getting ready for a summer of Ultimate Dreadball:
All the remaining regular bases, giant bases (for the bug etc - you may notice the space spider in the pic) and the family Dreadball trophy for which we are competing

That's what it says on my dice tower too! That and FREE MARS
In the Gaslands setting, the ultra-rich live on Mars - the best, most glorious racers compete for a new life there.
More work on the Gates, briefly:
The 4s need finished, and a bit more weathering on the "new" rust and the towers themselves now they've got tags.
But that can all wait a couple of weeks
