I'm would not be surprised one small bit if this guy got a cease order from G.W. I mean come on?even a servo skull?I wish guys with this kind of talent would create fresh inspired original pieces. Rackham is a good example at least they took the Jrr Tolkien thing in a different direction than G.W. took their Jrr Tolkien thing. (but it?s all a Jrr Tolkien thing whether sci fi or fantasy its all orks, elves, goblin, dwarves, humans) The elf guys cool

checked out their web page on the bottom of the packaging and it was just one big image that linked to an email address.  here's the image:

I did a whois search and it looks like they might be a Polish company, or at least the domain is controlled by a Polish company

CofC is a group of painters from various places - Poland and Germany I think. They do commision painting etc as well as just being hobbyists themselves. I have been looking in at their website for the last year or so. The quality of their work is of a very high standard (as is their English). The sculpts here are generic Sci-Fi models that will fit in any dark age style of game. 40k isn't the only game out there. A flying skull isn't exactly a new thing either - even if the name is. Just how is GW going to stop it?

Anyway, some people like Scibor's work, some people don't but there have been many of them (especially conversions) sold via eBay. I like most of them, but the finished product never looks tidy enough for me.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Scibor is actually a sculptor (or sculpting business) that has been posting a lot of stuff on CMON (cool mini or not) for a while. He makes excellent conversions and had recently released these i think a few months ago. Good stuff, and i think he meant for the figs to be used in 40k-esque games. I do believe that is a termie arm in that dirt, which would make sense b/c he does a lot of 40k conversions. hope i helped...

In the future, if you're going to link to minis that aren't widely available, do us a favor and include a link to somewhere we can purchase them. Those are some nice models, and I'd actually like to buy three of them... but I'm not going to make the effort to search around for them.

yeah, it looks a lot like a termi arm, but i did some digging and it's not a copy of an actual arm, but a bigger sculpt in the same style...probably a lot too close for his own good, though.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Come on, an arm's an arm.

GW have "been inspired" by so much images and ideas from so many sources that their universe is a pretty generic mishmash of gothic future SF which is easy to imitate without directly copying. This guy's figures prove the point. They would easily fit into an Imperial scene although they have nothing specifically Imperial about them.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Looks like scibor's finally made the jump to producing his own figs. Good for him, he was probably tired of takin crap from people saying his stuff wasn't "real" scultping.

Hope he does well with this, they look awesome. I'll definately be picking up some, as soon as he makes them available

ok excuse me if i am being a bit thick here but when it comes to pressing or sculpting my knoledge is very and i meen very basic.  what am i supposed to be looking at?  the basic head when heated melts to give a head with detail??  how??  and why are the pressed sculpts always gree??  ialways though that was due the the sculpter being so good they used green stuff andf actually sculpted it?  but then i saw that they have the same intricate shoulderpads etc on quite a few models and i dont think somebody could keep sculpting the same thing again and again without it being slightly different.  somebody please explain this to me.

Using a heating lamp speeds up the curing process of the green stuff - instead of waiting overnight, he was able to wait only 40 minutes, at which time he finished the rest of the details.

Many of the intricate details you see on Scibor's minis are done through "stamps" or molds that he has made with a milling machine. IE, the filigree work on the shields and armor.

the basic head when heated melts to give a head with detail??

No, the reference to heating is just to make the GS cure a little faster to finish working on it.

and why are the pressed sculpts always gree??

They're green because they're made by pressing Green Stuff in to a mould.

The picture here with the head WIP was Scibor's attempt to prove that he can sculpt heads from scratch... He admitted a while back that he had been pressmoulding GW heads for his models, but changed his mind when people mentioned that this probably wasn't the right thing to be doing... and now supposedly sculpts all his own heads.

The intricate detail, as Gabe mentioned, is pressed in moulds that he designs on computer and cuts in a rather expensive laser machine.

I believe the main reason Scibor sculpts things that look like GW terminators, servitors, Ogres, etc. is because that is what he can sell, and sell quickly, and sell a lot of. It would not be an efficient use of his time to sculpt models that resemble, oh, Chronopia Blackbloods, because there isn't a big market for really cool Chronopia figures. His Rhinox rider was even featured in a White Dwarf. I think he & GW may have reached an understanding; I know GW sends lightning-fast 'cease & desist' orders to recasters on ebay, but Scibor has been doing this for a while now.

And GW figures are mostly pretty nice- I rather detest the 40K rules set, but I still buy the occasional 40K figure just to paint it, even at the ridiculous prices.

What impresses me is the insane detail on their painted examples.  That elf-mage cloak!  I am not worthy!

@Beef- a google search for 'laser milling machine' will at least get you started.  Hope you have a few hundred thousand shekels to spare.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I know GW sends lightning-fast 'cease & desist' orders to recasters on ebay, but Scibor has been doing this for a while now.

Key word is "recasters" and those that directly market their creations *as* 40k products. Here Scribor appears to be selling generic 28mm sci-fi figures with the same Monty Python/Terry Gilliam gothicness of GW's own figures while entirely his own sculpts. Even then GW's  law dogs have rabidly attacked anyone who pushes the envelope, and definitely if they so much as mention any Games Workshop trademarked and/or copyrighted word, phrase, symbol and/or imagery.

The funny thing is it's not like GW's sculpts are even remotely original or particularly unique. As such it makes no sense to hold other sculptors to some higher standard just because it looks similar to GW figures as there isn't a single (mainstream) sci-fi/fantasy genre that they haven't begged, borrowed or stolen from. Because of that, it's impossible for anything in the same scale to *not* look like it could fit in any of GW's universes. After all, why do you think GW is so popular? (hint: it's universal appeal).

Anyhow, I wish Scribor the best in his endevors. Can't be an easy market to get into and be sucessful with the glut of options to choose from out there.

The funny thing is it's not like GW's sculpts are even remotely original or particularly unique.

That's not entirely true, at least so far as copyright is concerned.

The concepts behind the miniatures may not be original, but copyright isn't really concerned with that. What copyright does here issimply stop someone else producing miniatures that look like GW miniatures. And within the scope of copyright, which relies on points of comparison, GW's figures generally are unique.

That doesn't mean miniatures that could possibly fit into certain ranges, like these. It means miniatures with too many key design elements that are similar or identical to the design elements in GW's figures.

A good example here is Sophia's Lord of Pestilence... She even posted a list here a while back of the things that GW objected to. It's not simply a case of GW saying 'Hey, that looks like one of our figures, get rid of it'... they have to show that it bears a certain number of similarities to their own similar figures.

You can make figures of large humans in powered armour. What you can't do is make figures of large humans in powered armour that bears too many points of similarity to GW's large humans in powered armour.

And because of the more general nature of the design, you'll have much more luck making models of 'humans in robes' or 'goatmen' or the like... so long as they don't bear GW Trademarked symbols.

Isn't Scibor one of the original artists from Micro Art Studios in Gydnia Poland?

I thought they split and he's been doing his own thing for a while now. MAS has a big following on eBay especially for conversions and whole sculpts as well as premade bases etc. I recognize some of Scibor's work from the pics in this thread as similar if not the same as stuff from previous MAS eBay ads.

Can you D.I.G. it?

Beef: You'll have to search for a CNC mill, or CNC router. Then you also need software to draw to part in, another to write the code, and then drivers for the CNC machine. Cheapest setup I could find is $2000, without software. You may luck up and find a CNC machine on ebay, or you could make your own if you're good at that.
