Thanks for all the support. Networking proceeds apace, class is going well, and my gut is getting better. Oh, and my girlfriend gets home tonight from her trip to Chicago.

It's all win-win.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Sucks to hear dude, I went through much the same about a year ago (day after my birthday none the less). It gets better, dont worry. Virtualization will really help sell yourself to forward thinking, forward moving companies. A good call one IT nerd to another. Thin clients with View is what we are rolling out in the next few years at one of the biggest hospitals in the state. We already use it for server virtualization and desktop testing.

In truth, WM, the future is the end of traditional IT. It will become cheaper for most companies to simply buy "IT as a Service" (ITAS), which means a massive round of IT layoffs is coming, within the next 2-3 years. Large organizations will keep going, but even they will start removing their datacenter presence, in favor of renting from a Managed IT Provider.

A handful of industries with very strict rules (Hospitals), or things to hide (Banks) will maintain their DCs.

We're seeing the slaughtering of the middle-tier of the IT workforce. There will be a low end (Max, $60K a year) and a high-end (100K+).

OH-I Wanna get out of here

We lost our Data ops team about a year ago. They were offered positions throughout the foundation, mostly I'm lower end positions, at a pay cut. I'm going to be going after the network side myself, as that will continually be needed.

That blows, in ways I can't even describe tbh. I can't say I've heard that happening here in the UK but tbh, I doubt its far off from happening, considering how many british companies outsource the stupidest of things for the sake of cheaper pay to making profits ratio.

And people wonder why we keep dipping into a recession...

anywho, enough of this serious gak... I can't really say any more than whats already been said as well as what I said before, I just hope your keeping it together dude, as you can tell were all here for you!

now enough of this touchy feely gak and do some modeling to cheer yourself and us up

The only work IS in Managed Services unfortunately. SLAs will ultimately kill us all. They want to run IT like Fast Food, a big flowchart on the wall that they can drop any dummy into and measure his efficiency of following the chart and making an IT burger. This won't happen though, because they forget we are a skilled labor force requiring complex problem-solving on-demand.

And there goes my DCM sub. Ah well. Timing is everything!

Hopefully, this weekend up at Skalk's Place should provide a good time. Presuming I remember to, you know, pack everything. Having to scramble to handle unemployment and ex-work-gak in the middle of a week of intensive study? Yeah! Woo! Woooooooooo!

Thankfully, Mass will be spared the 'bow'. We'll get some microcells forming, but nothing like what NYC, CT, and RI are going to eat this evening.

Ah, so you are spared that at least, on top of the other garbage. Good luck again man.

Look what came in the mail!

I cannot help but feel the urge to rip all of these down to their component parts, and start anew.

But what will I build with them?

WHAT, INDEED?

But so many other people have already done that.

Plus, shouldn't I finish the Ordinatus, first?

Perhaps, but yours would be better... besides... you have to finish the Ordinatus no matter what you build out of those bits, so you might as well dream big!

How about the Dwarven war train thingie... that would be cool & I'm not sure anyone's done that seriously.

No, I have some very, very bad idea for what to do with those wall sections. Oh, yes.

As for the Squat Land Train, while I've ALWAYS been in love with Squats, I'm not going to start ANOTHER army.

If they come out with Squats ever again... you and I my friend... we're going to build a couple of Squat armies & field them with our team at Adepticon. We'll come up with some flimsy excuse to work them into the theme... SL will rage... and we'll ignore him and field and awesome Squat army!

Nothing technically stopping us, now. Use any Marine Codex, some RT era stuff, and the bad-ass Mantic Warpath Dwarves... RT era Rhinos (since, you know, they could have them back then), convert some of those sweet Spartan Land Raiders into Land Trains (use variant Land Raider chassis the represent the different cars), and convert Stormtalons or Stormravens (depending on the codex) into Squat Gyrocopters.

See?

All set.

And if you don't think I've already converted the Imperial Marauder Destroyer Bomber into the Squat Airship, in my mind, then you, sir, have another think coming to you. Possibly two.
