I think the Mantic one is 18cm? The Jotnar looks much more thicc though.

So the Mantic Giant is tall and slim, like a super model and the Jotnar is short and thicc like a glamour model? I can live with that.

Thanks for the help.

Cool! There's clearly a difference, but honestly I can still imagine them both being giants from the same world. Maybe just coming from different tribes?

If we look at humans, we come in many shapes and sizes. I can't imagine other humanoid type creatures would be any different.

Thanks, that pic was very helpful.

Well, I finally ordered the starter set, couldn't really say no at £55.

Now I need to put together some kind of winter themed board/terrain to play these battles out on.

From the first quick check it looks like it is mostly the same with additional options for characters like Retinues and Masteries.

Auticus is doing a comparison between the two versions and is going to post a video. At least from what I saw in the FB group. Haven't opened up my new book yet.

But it is a nice book.

Avatara fluff:
''Among the highest echelons of the Lineages, none are truly expected to risk their lives anymore, much less for
something as simple and trivial as combat. The chosen warriors of the Sovereign’s Lineages stride through the
battlefield safely projecting their consciousness into their Avatara: outlandish creations bedecked in all sorts of
ornament and Biomantic enhancements, whose lithe, androgynous frames bely the speed and power they can bring
to bear.
With almost no personal risk and minimal skill needed to become a deadly foe, many scions of the Lineages have
taken to decorating their Avatara as ostentatiously as possible, for the body-vessels have made them such proficient
killers that a tally of the slain foes is simply no longer a practical method by which to distinguish oneself.
To date, only those Lineages directly descended from the Sovereign have displayed the capability to deploy Avatara
surrogates. If any among the Directorate or the minor Lineages possess the capability, they keep it well hidden for
they know the Sovereign will stop at nothing to ensure their destruction, as he already did when the surrogates were
first displayed.
The sheer ruthlessness with which he culled the project and any records of it outside his control suggest that this
technology somehow represents an existential threat to the Sovereign but few, if any, have been able to grasp why.
The military advantages are of course tremendous, but that alone does not justify his response.
What nobody knows, except for the long deceased creators of the Avatara and the Sovereign himself, is that unlike
current surrogate suits that have a maximum projection range of a few dozen miles, early testing of the original
specifications had revealed no measurable limit to the projection range of these suits. The Sovereign grasped the
significance of this technology instantly and, with his characteristic ruthlessness, acted to acquire it and ensure that
only he would possess it among the Spires. A great deal of the Sovereign’s reputation as an infallible leader and
intricate plotter could very well be based almost exclusively on the advantage provided by his advanced surrogates,
that allow him to act on information that he has no right knowing as it occurs halfway across the world.''

Very cool bit of fluff about the Avataras.

Also, character portrait for the Spires. Another awesome bit of fluff about what is going on in the Underspire:

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Affton, MO. USA

I almost bought into this game this week.

Sell me on it!

I’m looking at the Dweghom guys, possibly 100 kingdom. (Not a fan of spire, but might change if I buy the main box and like the models inside).

What’s a good starting point for them. Should I get the main starter box? After that which would be the best route to take?

The Holiday boxes, when are they due out? I was looking at the Miniaturemarket site and saw that listed before coming here and seeing the actual pictures. Is there a list of what’s in those?

Sorry for all the questions.

Edit: well, stopped by Miniature Markets retail shop with my BDay cash. Walked out $200 poorer, but picked up

Conquest: core box, dweghom tempered sorcerer, flame berserkers, inferno automata, a dinged copy of the companion for $30
And unrelated Kings of War3 gamers edition also dinged.
They have a promo going on for in store (retail location) purchases over $150 you get a gift card with between $10-500 on it. Mine had $20, so I count that as an extra 10% off this purchase.

Will probably go back and get the rest of what they had Dweghom wise in the next week. For those in the game is a second starter a really good option, or should I spend more to get more variety for the spires and hundred kingdom?

Starter: it depends of what you want to field in your army. If you want more of those troops then a second one is a great buy. If you want more variety then you would be better served by getting expansion boxes like Steel Legion or/and Marksman Clones etc. Also keep in mind that starter does not include Command Models, which are only available in the expansion boxes.

How much is in each of these boxes?

Boxes have 1 Character, 2 Infantry Regiments, 1 Brute/Cavalry Regiment (except Dweghom which have the character + 3 infantry).

That's about 135-140 bucks, more or less. And they include some bonus in the form of paints, brush, dice.

So a decent discount compared to normal rrp, which becomes quite big one if adding the extra miniaturemarket discount.

I'd get some if I was starting, seems like a very good place to dive in.

Agree on that, since they're probably the best place to start for both Dweghom and nords. The Starter set still feels like the best place to start for 100K and Spires to me.

The Highbourne and Avatara were released today right? I'm pretty hyped for mine to arrive.

I’d like to know what paints are in their (brand wise), I’m afraid it’ll be army painter with custom names to already existing colors though. That’s not terrible, but I’d love to see them do something different than every other company out there.

By the picture of the Dweghom it looks like a Hold Raegh (character), a unit of Hold Ballistae, a unit of dragon Slayers, and probably a unit of Hold warriors. Pretty solid and a sub I believe that’s what I’m going to build as a main army I might just grab two. I still have to look over all the rules to see if that’s even allowable.

Here you go. Rule, Unit stats, points, and the army builder, are all free.

-edit- oh, you said paints... I dont know what the studio painter uses.

The Dweghom kits are dual (Ballistae/Warriors & Dragonslayers/Thanes) so you can configure them as you want.
It's a very solid start to for an army and is allowed, Raegh has Ballistae and Warriors as Mainstay while the Thanes and DSlayers are restricted.

Edit: I bet the paint will be Army Painter. They have a partnership with Para Bellum or whatever.

Looks very good. Though was expecting the Hunters to have some claymore, lumberjack axes or other decent sized melee weapon as they have Cleave 1.

Yeah, they should have something to use that Cleave 1 with. Unless they are so bad ass with their knifes that they do not need anything bigger
