The subheading of this thread ought to read "Help me get GW's attention!"
My name is Ross Watson, and I am crusading to try and convince GW to let me write more background articles (Index Astartes, Index Xenos, and others) for White Dwarf and collected compilations.
My credentials: I've written more than a dozen White Dwarf articles (most in the US edition), including the "Only War" series, and more than twenty Black Gobbo articles. For writing fiction, I've written quite a few role-playing game books, and won the industry's highest award for creative effort in 2003 (Dawnforge won the golden ENnie for "best campaign setting"). I also served as part of the US WD team from 2003 - 2005.
My plan: GW fans, including myself, are absolutely rabid for more background info, more stories, more items for speculation on the internet. What I'd like to do is write a series of articles to fill that need. Some of my ideas include (but are not limited to): Index Xenos: The Autarch Index Xenos: The new Eldar Craftworlds Index Xenos: The Nicassar Index Xenos: The Castes of the Tau Index Sororitas (A study of the various orders of the Sisters of Battle) Index Astartes: The Celestial Lions Index Astartes: Dark Angel Successor Chapters (to coincide with the new Dark Angel line)
General Background Articles: Prayers of the Imperial Missionaries/Confessors The Imperial Commissariat The Titan Legions
How you can help: The odds of GW letting anyone outside of the games development team (and particularly, an American), are slim. I'll readily admit my proposal is a long shot - but it's a shot worth taking. Any sign of interest from the hobby community at large will give me a bit of a boost, as several GW staffers read boards like these every day. I'll extend my own, personal appreciation for anyone who is willing to post in the thread and support my cause.
The proposal has already been sent to Guy Haley. If folks are interested, I can show you the cost-benefit summary I included to show I'm not some half-baked foaming-at-the-mouth fanboy.
Thanks for your attention.
