Subject: 7th Edition - Copy in hand

I had a good read of the 7th edition cut down rulebook for the Battle of Skull crag boxset. Not happy. Yet another GW missed opportunity, its not a new edition, its a FAQ with an overhyped revamp attached. What really bugs me is that GW's own rumourmill offered us some good suggestions that could have been taken up such as the archery rules from Warhammer Historical, and not getting a parry save for hand weapon and shield if your WS is less than your opponents. But in the end we get the same old mantra. Alessio: "What, change the rules. but we don't make mistakes." The edition changes would fit on a single page of a FAQ. Next time I hope it does. Full on editions should actually fix things.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. |

So your complaints are that they didn't turn the rules for the most successful wargame in the world on it's head? If they just cleaned up the rules and removed the big ambiguities I'll be thrilled.

Maybe this is a sign of things to come, and GW will start doing the same for 40k.

There a few snafus regarding WHFB. I am not intimatly aware of them as I dont play, but have heard quite a few greivances. But, on the other hand, I have also heard many people extolling its virtues endlessly.
*shrug* A non issue.

WTF? The game is out 2 seconds and it's already a problem? Have you even played any games with it yet? At least we've had 2 years to playtest 40K v4.
I didn't care for the gameplay of WFB. Too many people I played against tried to cram as many rifles/pistols/crossbows/cannons/warmachines into their list as they could. If I wanted to have my troops and nice cavalry shot to death, I'd rather stick with 40K. As for the rules, I never had a problem with them.

I'm amused that anyone could think that rule change requirements could drive new editions.
The schedule drives new editions...that's it. How much changes or doesn't is based upon available time to playtest or evaluate constructive criticism on existing mechanics. Why change stuff that mostly works? WHFB 6th was getting pretty close to what they wanted. 7th is as well. But you'll still see 8th edition in the next 5-7 years. It's a business cycle.

Exactly. It's got nothing to do with rules and everything to do with money.

I hear in the 8th edition box "Apocalypse On High" there will be 1100 skinks and 4 chaos warriors made out of gold.

Sounds like a fairly standard Empire Gun Line, of which you don't see many. The difference between a gun line in WHFB and WH40k is that in WHFB, the gunners will get housed in cloce combat. Kinda like Guardsmen, except without the powerfists. And the armor.

Well it is a capitalistic world out there! But from what I hear the new rules are a clarification of the old which too me is what a new rulebook should do, not reinvent the whole system. I'm a WHFB virgin so I'm just going to start with the 7th edition. No old rules that keep hanging in my head. "OVERWATCH!, what do you mean that was 2 editions ago?!?"

Dwarf gunlines on the other hand is like charging Marines. Armor, high leadership, toughness, good fighting abiltity, nasty stand and shoot, it's all there
