For me, the main thing is to get to play with the toys.

Fluff doesn't interest me too much (I rarely bother to read the lore on the various rulebooks I buy), and while I love modelling, I also hate it, and downright agonize over painting stuff because of my impossibly high standards I try to enforce on myself. "A new hope" set the standards of modelling impossibly high already before I had assembled or painted a single mini, and I'm not sure I will match the quality of those models anytime soon..

Socializing, umm, most of my friends don't wargame or stopped being into miniatures a couple decades ago, so that doesn't really tie into it either
